Is it realistic to move from michigan to wyoming after high school?
Question:
I found a company that I would like to work for and I graduate next year. Is it possible that I could get this job and rent an apartment realistically? I have a car to make it there by the way.

Answer:
Most states are big places with a lot of different living environments so usually you have to be more specific about area..(of Wyoming in this case) Rule 1 when at all possible: Visit an area if you are not familiar with it before you move there. Although Michigan as a state has a much higher population density with more housing and other features, (re-edit>>>) Wyoming has some small cities to find apartments or rental houses. However, for example, if you live in a big city in Michigan and moving to a small one in Wyoming, you may not like the slower pace (or vice versa). Small towns may not like new people. Assuming you are single and unmarried, meeting a partner could be a more difficult thing. When moving in a corporation from one city to another, many allow a visit first at company expense. Rule 2 is research: Climate/weather, dominant religion if important, cost of living vs the salary. Even if you can find an apartment, can you afford it on the salary and have enough left over to live a nice life. Rule 3 is family and friends. How important are your current friends and how much of your life is family? When moving from one place to another, getting back to visit sometimes is very infrequent, and don't expect people to run to visit you all the time. It is about starting new to some extent. Long distance relationships are much harder to maintain. The easy answer is yes. Realistically you can move from any one place to another. In my life, I moved about 10 times starting with going away to college. Too many other factors to keep going in an answer, but you get the idea of the way I looked at it.

Why do northerners drive instead of fly?
Question:
I see them around my city (Ft Laud.) all the time. The come from the North. I see people from Michigan, Illinois, New York, Massachusetts, Wyoming, and even Canadians. Personally, I'd rather fly than spend a day driving in the car. So my question is why do these northerners drive to Florida instead of drive?

Answer:
Maybe they enjoy the road trip. But I think it probably has more to do with cost. Flying would be the optimal choice if you're traveling solo but if your traveling in a group or as a family its more economical to pitch in for gas and cram into one car than to spend hundreds of dollars per ticket on airfare (not to mention having to check luggage.)

What is the economy like in the Upper Peninsula, Michigan?
Question:
I lived on a small farm in Southern Michigan all my life until the car company crash forced my family to move to Wyoming. I'm now old enough to move out and on my own. I miss home but don't want to get into the economic mess where I came from, and my boyfriend would prefer somewhere with less people. I've been looking at some hobby farms for sale up north and like what I'm finding. However, are the jobs up in the Upper Peninsula as hard to find as they are in the south? Will it be hard to make a living and stay up there? Info from some true Yoopers would be great!

baby traveling long distance in car?
Question:
going from michigan to wyoming, 20 hour drive and planning to stop and stay about halfway. we have a 6mo. old is this too long for her? will it be ok if we stop alot to let her out of the seat?

Answer:
I've twice done 5 hour drives with my 2 month old. (I'm about to do it again) You're going to have to stop A LOT! Will someone be able to sit back with your baby and talk to her? That will help a lot!

If I visit another state with full tint on my windows, will I get a fix it ticket and have to take it off?
Question:
In Wyoming there are no car tint laws, so my windows have full tint on all but the front window, but I was wondering if I went to a different state, like Michigan where the laws are more strict.. and let's say I got pulled over, would I have to take my tint off before I went home?

Answer:
Your car only has to meet the laws in the state that it is registered. Many years ago I moved from FL (very liberal tint laws) to CA. (strict tint laws). I got pulled over for the tint and he saw the FL plate and lisc. However, he gave me 2 weeks to remove it since I was actually relocating there. All was good. I've found that many officers don't know the law in other states. So you can always ask them to call the Wyoming state police to verify tint laws. The won't probably do this and will let you go. Hope this helps.

3 day car trip?!?!?! Please help.?
Question:
We are going from Wyoming to Michigan. That's two twelve-fourteen hour days and one eight-ten hour day. Yes, we are driving. I want some ideas on what to do to keep busy and what not. It's four of us in an aspen. We will be staying in hotels at night because we have had bad things happen to us when we drove through...CRASH! BOOM! Deer was everywhere. D: Anyway, I fourteen. So, yeah. And I get carsick if I look down, so I can't read. Please help. Anything will do me good. :)

Answer:
Talking books and podcasts may be the way for you to go, kiddo. Podcasts come in all sorts of topics, from role-playing-games to Harry Potter. You can download podcasts on your own using podcatcher software, and then load them onto an MP3 player. Because of the motion sickness, I would recommend AGAINST video podcasts and stick with audio ones. Talking books are just recordings of people reading books. Most bookstores carry them, but you can save some bucks and see what your local library carries. I know they had them for young adults on cassettes when I was 14 (many, MANY years ago) so I'm sure they have YA talking books nowadays, either on CD or some other format. And if you get carsick, find a stationary spot in the car to look at, and STARE AT IT until you feel better. (If it makes you feel any better, I can't read in the car either.) Happy trails, honey!

My boyfriend wants to go to Phoenix, Arizona for school and.........?
Question:
My boyfriend and I have been together for over five years. His family moved away to Wyoming leaving him here with me in Michigan. Ever since his dad died he's wanted to work on cars and get an automotive degree and he's recently been talking about moving to Arizona to do a year program there. He basically won't go without me even though I need to finish up a year of schooling here. We probably wouldn't be able to go for another year so I could finish and get a good job out there but I'm nervous. The fear of leaving my family is overtaking the chance I want to take with him. I told him I would want a MAJOR commitment towards our relationship before I moved ANY WHERE and he completely agreed and told me that it's definitely on his mind. The program takes a year or maybe a little over. I just don't want to live there forever because I'll miss my family and my home too much. It sucks in Michigan and we need to get out. Should I go with him or stay with my family? We'll eventually come back, but I'm still torn. I need to pray about this for sure! Any suggestions or life stories???

Answer:
If you feel comfortable with him I would not worry about taking a step toward the unknown. That is the best time to do such a thing. That way you have perhaps one of the only things that matters in your life with you. It may suck being away from your family, but have you really ever been away from your family? I mean you may find that it isn't as bad as you think. I'd finish up your school before going anywhere. If your relationship is good when that happens and has gone in the direction you are looking for it to go, perhaps engagement, then go for it. Life may take you all over and often times that is not a bad thing. It can be a scary thing, but fears are to be faced not avoided. Plus, as you said "it sucks in Michigan" so why not move somewhere warmer for a while. The best of luck to you.

How would cost of living in North Dakota compare to Northern Ohio?
Question:
i live in Northern Ohio, yes in the rust belt itself, Originally from Michigan. I actually live just slightly south of Toledo. The area I'm in isn't too bad but the cities in this region are shit holes, Cleveland,Toledo,Detroit, Youngstown, Akron, etc... . I don't like the people, there really close minded here. Don't like the area, looking for someplace a little less blue collar, I mean I'm a blue collar worker but I don't really fit the mold(nothing personal) I've been reading up on North Dakota and I like what I am hearing. I can deal with Winter, I like the idea of less people. Its isolated but not like Montana or Wyoming, So as far as things cost, job market, car insurance, property taxes etc.. How would it compare to Ohio?

Answer:
Depends where you go in North Dakota, but in general, you'll find most things a bit less expensive in North Dakota. Fargo/Moorhead is a very nice area if you really don't mind lots of snow & cold.
