Easy to get into Cars Assembled in America?
Question:
My dad has arthritis and wants a car he can get in and out of, but he he also wants a car assembled in America. He's not opposed to foreign brands, he just wants it assembled here. Currently he has a Honda Element, the seat is the right height and the doors are large and open very wide. He's getting tired of it and wants something new. I'm thinking he probably wants to stay with something about mid-sized and SUV-ish or a crossover. I was thinking: Saturn Outlook – Lansing, MI Chevrolet Traverse – Spring Hill, TN Chevrolet TrailBlazer – Moraine, OH & Oklahoma City, OK GMC Acadia – Lansing, MI GMC Envoy – Moraine, OH & Oklahoma City, OK Buick Enclave – Lansing, MI Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matix – Fremont, CA Saturn Vue – Spring Hill, TN Toyota Highlander – Princeton, IN Ford Taurus X – Chicago, IL Honda CR-V – East Liberty, OH (+ many other places) Cadillac SRX – Lansing, MI Mercury Mountaineer - Louisville, KY & St. Louis MO Honda Pilot - Lincoln, AL Subaru Tribeca - Lafayette, IN A more complete list of vehicles assembled in the USA would be awesome, but I couldn't find one. Short of that, other suggestion would be great. Yeah I get that there is more than one way to define 'made in America,' but he wants a car assembled in America, he just does.

Answer:
The reason I bought a 2008 Dodge Nitro was it is 85 percent American made, the highest I could find. It is easy to get in and out of, another reason I liked it. The GM Acadias have a chinese engine, I think :(

Story advice needed please?
Question:
Ok so my previous question I recieved a couple of answers which do make sense but in my opinion my novel sounds fine at the moment. First of all the Preface....yes I have a small paragraph for a preface something to get people interested: "Life can never be easy. To succeed, you have to work, some harder then others. Life can be filled with pain, anger, hate and misery but when you really look for it, it can unravel to leave you love and warmth. I know this because throughout my life, I've had to deal with all of these emotions. Some tough, fierce but others beautiful and precious. This is the story of how I've managed to live with these feelings...this is the story of how I've had to endure the many obstacles that have blocked my path...this is the story of how I became Immortal." Then I've started my novel in a car...yes Stephanie Meyer happened to have hers starting in a car to...but to be honest...I am sure many others have to... And lastly I've been told that I have to much set up e.g summary...well yes I may have put a lot in it but thats what I want to do and I will still put more info in during the book e.g with speech....e.g “Just a few more miles and we'll finally be there!” My father, Harry Wilson, remarked in an exhausted tone as we slowly approached a fairly small traffic jam towards the end of the freeway. We'd now been on the road for a boring three and a half hours, whilst having nothing to do apart from listening to the same old radio station and watching the hundreds of cars speed past. So by hearing this, it came as a great relief to know that we would shortly be approaching our new home. We'd decided to move to another state for two reasons. First of all my father, a highly respected doctor in Chicago, didn't feel as if he was being paid enough at his old job. Therefore after a quick 6 weeks of searching, he'd finally accepted a place at Traverse City hospital in Michigan. And the second reason was that with my mom not being with us anymore, we both felt like we needed a change, somewhere else to live so that we could still remember her but at the same time, start fresh. I apologise for my long question...but I would like your opinions if all books should have others opinions in.

Answer:
You don't need the preface; I'd scrap it. It does little to interest the reader, while well-written, and for the most part, prologues aren't needed. Don't listen to people who tell you that you can't start a novel in a car. It's been done before Meyer, and people will continue to do it after. It's content that matters. You do, however, have a little too much summarizing in your opening. The first chapter of a novel needs to jump right into the story, not give us the history.

Okay can I use a lot of summarizing?
Question:
For my novel...I've shown the first two chapters...and I've had comments saying that their too summarizing...now I've checked some of my other books and the first 2 or 3 pages are...so heres an example of mine. “Just a few more miles and we'll finally be there!” My father, Harry Wilson, remarked in an exhausted tone as we slowly approached a fairly small traffic jam towards the end of the freeway. This time three months ago was the day when my mother passed away. Not down to cancer or any other health issues as she was a completely healthy woman, one that lead a well exercised lifestyle and loved to take life to its fullest. No my mothers death was caused by an unexpected accident, one that couldn't have been prevented until the last second. So when we received a knock at the front door from the local paramedics to tell us that she had been caught in a huge road accident, that was the day when our lives began to slowly turn around. Especially my dads. My father who had always tried to make people laugh with his silly antics and jokes, had now became a lot more serious. He'd tend to concentrate more on what he was doing, try to keep up to her highest standards and sometimes just sit in his room with the door locked, crying until he fell asleep. At first I didn't notice it as much but as time went by it became even more clearer to see. And as for myself, I just couldn't describe how I felt as it was all just to horrible. So yes, the last two months had been extremely tough for the both of us. Now I do know that its very imformative but this is just to tell the readers why their moving...thats all..I'm not going to use to much information crammed together like this after...I will split it up e.g...I just want this to give the readers a basic view....is this okay?

Answer:
I think this is a very good beginning and no I don't think you have used too much summarising. What I would suggest is that you consider keeping your reader in the present while you are summarising. You can do this by writing for example, 'as we came off the freeway, I watched the passing scenery (your own description) and thought back to the time, three months earlier when my mother passed away.' This will break up large blocks of necessary back history and the reader won't even notice! Good luck with your story. I like your style.

What do you think of my Story start?
Question:
I'm rewriting my book and I wanted to know how you guys think of my start...it is second reader so the narrator is talking...and it is based for the teenager genaration: Immortal Preface Life can never be easy. This is the story of how I've managed to live with these feelings...this is the story of how I've had to endure the many obstacles that have blocked my path...this is the story of how I became Immortal. Chapter One A fresh start “Just a few more miles and we'll finally be there!” My father, Harry Wilson, remarked in an exhausted tone as we slowly approached a fairly small traffic jam towards the end of the freeway. We'd now been on the road for a long three and a half hours, whilst having nothing to do apart from listening to the same old radio station and watching the hundreds of cars speed past. Answer:
What on earth is "second reader"? No, it's not second person - it is first person. Like the other person said. Ditch the preface which is basically pointless. Then ditch your start. Honestly, since Twilight did it, every other teen wannabe book starts off with Our Character sitting in a car on their way to a new life. And write what you know. Three and a half hours in a car is not a long journey. Two weeks is an ridiculously short job search - even if he found a job he wanted to apply for on his first day of looking and the closing date was the next day, the interview and selection process would take longer than that, never mind how long it takes to sell one house and buy or rent another.

Best cars for criminals?
Question:
Ok so I have noticed that in Mexico, drug runners have moved from semi luxurious pickup trucks and SUV's to Cross over vehicles ( Mazda C x7, Chevy traverse, Acura zdx, VW Touareg etc) for their drug running & smuggling operations (street level members still get crappy pick ups or normal sedans, bosses still have their luxury cars) Anyways.. WHY WOULD YOU USE CROSSOVERS TO DO MAFIA STUFF? DO THEY BLEND IN AT CITIES? GAS ECONOMY? DO THEY HAVE TO DROP OFF THE KIDS AT THE SOCCER GAME BEFORE A SHOOTING???

Answer:
They look like the cars everybody else drives. They blend in with the crowd.
