Is it legal to play loud music in my car in michigan?
Question:
I am from Shelby Township, Michigan. I read somewhere that you cannot be ticketed for loud music in your car, except for between certain times. I cannot find any details on it though. What are the laws regarding loud music in cars, like subwoofers?

Answer:
It is illegal to play loud music anywhere anytime. It's illegal because if their was an emergency vehicle coming your way you would not be able to hear it and it may have cost someones life. Not to mention its rude as hell. We dont want to hear what youre listening to

Will Japan and Germany still make better cars people want no matter what we spend on "big three" bailout?
Question:
sen. shelby is trying to mess up my plan to bailout these good old boys from michigan. hell, americans owe gm and the unions - right?

Answer:
Germany doesn't make better cars than the US does. Their cars may have a better suspension and ride better, but they have more problems per vehicle than US cars. Volkswagen is one of the worst car companies regarding problems per vehicle. In fact most European cars have more problems per vehicle than US cars. Also, many people think of European car companies as being environmentally friendly since Europe enacts a ton of environmental laws. However, the European car companies normally have to buy enviromental credits in order to pass air emission standards that US cars meet without having to do that. And if you look at US car quality, it has dramatically improved since the 1980's. Also the look and appeal of US cars has dramatically improved in the last few years. Toyota on the other hand has done very little and their cars are starting to look cheap and plasticy like Ford cars used to look. As far as GM and the unions are concerned. Americans don't owe them. The unions have somewhat abused their power and have not worked with the auto companies like they should have. This has caused the price of cars to skyrocket. I don't really see how people can afford $20,000 to $50,000 cars. The luxury cars and SUV's cost almost half the price of my house. For people my age, a pension is sort of like a dinosaur. It doesn't exhist in almost any company anymore unless you are like some rich corporate executive. And health benefits you pretty much almost have to pay entirely out of your own pocket. And getting paid 95% of your pay whenever you're laid off is absolutely unheard of except in the auto industry. Why should Americans pay thousands extra for a car to pay someone that has long since retired $3,000 a month or to pay someone 95% of their pay when they aren't even working? Cars are becoming too expensive to afford and a new car is becoming a luxury that many people are realizing they just can't afford in these tough times. The unions need to make some major concession or this big problem will happen all over again. And the concessions shouldn't totally be taken out on new workers. It seems like the older workers are making very few concessions compared to the new workers who get their starting pay cut to about half what it once was. To me, it looks like my parent's generation is making their kids pay so they can live high on the hog. And Congress has done it too. They just go ahead and spend and pass the bills with interest down to the next generation to pay. As long as their generation does see reductions in Social Security and Medicare checks they don't worry. I hate seeing the newscasters say that Americans should save more and should pay off their credit cards and should have at least enough money in the bank to live off of for 6-8 months. If you barely are making enough to get by, how do you save up enough to pay off credit cards and save back enough to live on for 6-8 months. You can't unless you save for YEARS to get to that point. And then, many of my generation have student loans to pay off. These student loans with the cost of college anymore add up to about the price of a new house by the time you're done. And then we're supposed to be able to afford a house and car on top of that? I don't think so. We need to protect our car companies. But we must DEMAND them to change. That means the unions and the corporate executives need to start making some concessions. And that means we need to push that gas efficiency, safety, quality, etc need to be more important than horsepower, 0-60 time, and torque. A bankruptcy will force them to change. But I would be leary of buy a car from a company that went bankrupt. Who would I go to for repair parts? Would the warranty still be covered? The Big Three need protected and bailed out. But if the bailout money is loaned or given to them a number of large changes need to be demanded. Flying on corporate jets to ask for billions is just one example of something that needs changed. A major overhaul needs done to these companies to make them competitive. I think their product is good. They just need to change what goes on inside the company so their product is affordable to the American public and doesn't cost half the price of a house.

Does anyone else remember the last time the Gov. had a say in what kind of cars the Big three produced?
Question:
Not directly like is being proposed now, but do you remember the economic events that brought us the K car? The gas lines, the inflation, sorry stagnation (brought to us by the same guy under Carter, that Obama now has controlling the same thing)? Are we destined to drive a new version of the Pinto? And what about the companies that have to use vans and trucks? Mini-trucks are good for teenagers but try loading one full of landscaping rock. Try delivering an X-ray unit in a new Chevy HHR, or a Honda Oddesy. Gas spiked, leading to people not having enough money to go to work and pay the mortgage, which some should not have had in the first place. Now it is the Big Three at fault Americans have always bought big cars and trucks, unless forced to do otherwise? Chrysler got a loan in the eighties, paid it back early and was a viable company again for years, I do not see AIG, CITI group etc paying anything back to the tax payer. After all it is our money the Fed is using to "bail out" bankers, without thought of repayment. What is so bad giving a loan, many gov's give their manufactures loans without conditions. Remember one of the biggest opponents of this Sen Shelby R-Al has much to be vocal for, look at all the foreign plants that are in Alabama. Funny how you did not hear Sen Shelby voice opposition to all the tax breaks he helped them get to move to Alabama. Does this employ Americans? Yes, do the profits and taxes from those companies stay here? NO. I live in Michigan where NAFTA has helped decimate the manufacturing base in a state that is dependent on it. I believe that part of the loan structure should include bringing back the jobs that have been shipped to Mexico and Canada, India and Pakistan, even at lower wages it is still American jobs for "American" car companies. And say bye to the union as a separate entity, they had their place to help workers in a time when owners did not have safety conditions to adhere to, OSHA to contend with and child labor laws. Not to mention Comp laws. The UAW has become a corporation unto its self now, why is Ron Gettlefinger not forced to disclose his compensation? How did he get to DC? How much does Union top management make? And how much would this take from the cost of a car. NOT THE LINE WORKERS, MANAGEMENT. (you need management for a union of factory workers?) How about representation Unpaid since it is supposed to be about solidarity, and the worker? I read all these polls but wonder why they slant to not helping Amercian companies that actually make something? I hear that they do not make the cars we want, Funny that the SUV is the highest selling vehicle ever produced here? If we did not want a Cadillac they would not have survived this long. If a 4wd, long bed, extended cab, v-8 pickup was not wanted why do so many drive them? BS. Are we to go from Hemi to 4cylinder yet again, because the idiots on the Hill? Thoughts please?

Answer:
If the government would get out of the way and let the free market work then we would be much better off. The gov. is equally responsible for the current problems with the auto manufacturers. CAFE standards, unequal trade laws, EPA resrtictions, OSHA, and the inability to become energy independant are a major contributor. Thank you Liberal Democrats.

What is the most small budget friendly car audio stereo and speakers? Where should I get them installed?
Question:
Hi, I'm 16 years old and I'm getting my mom's old car. I'm a big music guy and my mom's car audio equipment isn't cutting it. It is just the standard stuff. I would like your opinion on what is the best stereo and speakers to get that would have good sound quality for a reasonable price. I don't want the budget stuff. I want it to sound better than the standard equipment, and have all the options I need, like a audio jack for my ipod and bluetooth. Also, I know this will vary from place to place, but I live in Shelby Township Michigan, which is zip code 48315, about one hour outside Detroit. What would be the best place to go to get it installed? Cost efficient, and reliable? Could I do it myself? I understand electronics, and my dad is an electrical engineer working for GM. Thanks for the help I am not dirt poor either. I have a job and I can get a few hundred dollars i just would prefer not to go overboard Also if you could tell me where to get them that would be great too. Also Bluetooth is NOT A MUST. Just an addition that I would appreciate because as I am looking around online, I see that they make it quite a bit more expensive.

Answer:
For a good sound system your going to have to spend a bit of money regardless. For door speakers go for Alpine, Kenwood, or Poineer. For subs consider Alpine, Rockford Fosgate, Polk, JBL. Amp wise never go by maximum output power.. that is useless. Look for RMS thats what really counts. An example for decent setup would be An Alpine Type R 10" $179.99 with a Alpine MRP-M500 amp.$199.99. And you can make your own box it would save you alot of money! Its not that hard. And A good wiring kit. Such as a Tsunami 8gauge kit. $50 This will sound nice and klean and it will boom too!
