Questions Related to royal, oak cars

Provided By Y! Answers

Do you enjoy those car shows where everyone just stands around and looks at old cars?
Question:
I find them boring. Why would anyone want to drive in all that traffic and stand around and look at cars that one would see everyday in California. (There is a Woodward dream Cruise in the Detroit /Royal Oak area) People can't drive to shop, Go to movies, Hard to Breath due to exhaust, Can't find a place to park, Plus the Police are mean as can be to people. Why do people do this?

Answer:
I suppose if I were to summarize my answer in one word it would nostalgia. Granted, in relation to the cars we have today, the cars of old were grossly inefficient, low performance, pollution producing monstrosities of engineering. Yet the adoration of those so-called “classic” automobiles comes about for two reasons. One reason is that those cars make people reminisce about earlier times, which they perceive, at least in hindsight, to be more innocent. Secondly – and this is not as obvious- people have a fascination with older cars, because they hearken back to a time when America was truly a leader in industry, and, to some extent, in culture. As with anything, there are other things besides efficiency and sophistication that are meritorious. Sometimes the thoughts that an antiquated piece of technology evokes, has value in and of itself. It is a tangible way for some people to keep in touch with their history.

If you get arrested for theft. ($24 worth) and it's your 1st offense in Royal Oak, MI what could happen?
Question:
My friend and I got arrested for theft I had $24 of stuff on me and she had $63. We have to go to court on Wednesday. It's our 1st offense, but we had some stuff in her car that my sister gave me and they took it without reason and impounded her car. Will they trail us together? What could happen to us? To Marine5 I'm not trying to sound like a victim, i know I stole and I know it was wrong. I'm not denying anything, I just would like to know what could happen. No I'm not proud of what I did, it was extremely stupid and so not worth it in any way. Just wanted to know what other ppl had to say about it.

Answer:
If it is your first offense with absolutely no priors you will probably get probation, community service, and your ass chewed out by the judge.

$300 Mortgage in Detroit Suburbs??? (Ferndale/Royal Oak/Hazel Park, MI area)?
Question:
I just turned 26 and live with my mom. I'm ready to leave the nest, but I can't see myself paying rent for an apartment that I will never see a return on. After reviewing my monthly expenses, I can only afford $300 for a mortgage, taxes, AND insurance. Do you think it's likely that I can find a foreclosure in the Royal Oak/Hazel Park/Ferndale area that I can afford? I've been seeing many that need work for $10,000 , but I won't have the money to invest in major repairs. I wanted to finish paying off my car at the end of '09 and then start my home search, but everyone is telling me to jump on these houses now. I'm SO confused...Is there a such thing as a $300 payment for a QUALITY home that's move-in ready?

Answer:
You will not be able to find a home with a $300.00/mo payment. Your taxes alone will be $125 - 150.00/mo! You should wait a while, save up some money for a down payment & pay off your car.

Answer:

Where should i park in royal oak michigan?
Question:
i just got a job at a place near Washington Ave and W 6th street. if i park at a meter, then won't i have to put more money in it every couple hours or something? i have to work a five hour shift and that would be basically impossible to do. could i put enough money in it so i can be paid for 6 hours? i was thinking about parking in the free occ garage although i am worried that it would either (A) be closed or (B) close with my car in there or something(because classes definitely don't go that long). i know i should just call my employer but i don't feel like doing that.

Answer:
You should definitely call your employer to ask them. They may have an agreement with one of the garages or lots that gets you free or discounted parking and free or discount is good. You don't want to be running down there to put coins in the meter all the time, believe me, that's a huge pain. There are some meters nearby that can be paid up to 12 hours so that would suit your needs. But I still think the best idea is to check with your employer first to find out the best deal. When I go to Royal Oak I always park in the structure across from the StageCrafters theatre. It's cheap and centrally located, but I'm not sure how close that is to your job.

Where can I go to get neon lighting installed under my car?
Question:
I really am hoping to find a place near me in Royal Oak,Troy,Clawson or Berkly Michigan or near there. I have a Dodge Stratus. Thanks

Answer:
No shop will do the installation, as its illegal in Michigan for your vehicle to have under body neon on it. Law also states your vehicle cannot emit light colors unless its red, amber or white.

Tips saving money?
Question:
Alright, so I have goals, but no money. First off, here's the goals. I'm 16 with a job at a bike shop (American Cycle And Fitness in Royal Oak, MI) ****-Pay for car insurance (~$1000) -Buy a car (less than $1000 if possible) -Spending money for family vacations and youth gathering in orlando (~$200) I figure I'll work as much as I can during the summer to get up where I can before school starts back up (parents usually only let me work on the weekends during school) and just deposit the checks in my account. Any tips on how to not spend it on meaningless things (i.e.-cd's, video games, etc.)? Thanks ~Shorty~ Sidenote: What kind of decent vehicle can I find in that kind of range? What late 90s ('96+) cars would get the best fuel efficiency (not your average teenager. Most would look for speed. idiots.) Sorry I didn't specify earlier, but I'm on my parents insurance plan (AAA I think), and the insurance is more than the $1000 I need to pay on a 2001 Focus ZX3. Nice putting it into perspective thatguy, thanks.

Answer:
If what you really want is a car then focus on the car. Look through car magazines and pick some out that you like. Clip out the pictures and put them up in your room. Put a post it note on your bathroom mirror or where ever so you see it everyday. CD'S or CAR Buy video, play 20 times get bored or buy CAR drive it 20 times and gain mobility. It really works. Focus on your goal, but don't be affraid to award yourself everyone once in awhile for being focused otherwise you will burn out. Give check to your parents and ask one of them to put it in the bank for you. Make a budget. Decide what you can live with (10 bucks a month) and don't go over it.

How long does it take to get a stolen car back?
Question:
My gray 1999 Taurus was stolen from the OCC parking structure in Royal Oak,MI. Most of the work for one of my classes is in the car. I need to turn in the work by 06/24/08.The Police said they will call if they find it. What is the recovery rate? How long are the cars missing? Was anyone's belongings still in the car when it was found? Why did they take a 99 Taurus? Are they driving it or did they take the air bags? It was not in great shape, but it got me to school and work. I hope they get caught and go to jail.

Answer:
You'll be lucky if you ever see it again. If the police do find it be prepared to pay astounding impound fees. Then the insurance will probably total out the car if the scumbags did too much damage to hotwire the car. I hope you do get it back but don't get your hopes up. My great uncles car which was going to be my first car was stolen a week after he passed away and stripped for it's parts and big V8.

Jewish, Muslim volunteers join forces to help out on Christmas?
Question:
Ari Goldberg filled Styrofoam cup after Styrofoam cup with lemonade from a giant jug cooler in soup kitchen at the St. Leo Catholic Church's on Detroit's west side on Christmas morning. The 13-year-old West Bloomfield resident was one of about two dozen volunteers from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit who helped prepare and serve a festive holiday meal to less-fortunate people. It was part of the organization's annual Mitzvah Day program, the largest single day of volunteering by the region's Jewish community, which enables Christians to spend the holiday at home with their loved ones, according to the Federation. This year, for the third time, an estimated 1,000 Jewish volunteers joined forces with their Muslim neighbors "Mitzvah" means "good deed" or "commandment" in Hebrew. "We come here every Christmas. It's a tradition," said Ari, who arrived at the church with his mother and 7-year-old brother at 8:30 a.m. "It's important to help people in need." Among other Mitzvah Day volunteer opportunities were sorting books for the annual Bookstock used book and media sale, delivering holiday meals to homebound seniors, sorting food at Gleaners Community Food Bank and serving meals to veterans at Piquette Square in Detroit, Federation spokeswoman Beverly Phillips said. In southwest Detroit, an estimated 700 people got to play Santa Claus for 215 families. They first gathered to get big plastic bags filled with toys and clothing to give to underprivileged children as part of the Jimmy's Kids program, started in 1989 by Jim Tuman, a 70-year-old national speaker and youth advocate from Royal Oak. His elves? Volunteers from the United Council of Islamic Societies, the Jewish Federation and several area churches. George Schuttler, 24, of Lansing was participating for the second year and was assigned to surprise the Canales family. Miguel, 10, pulled out dozens of gifts, from toy cars and books to yo-yos and stuffed animals, which he shared with Samuel, 8, and Johanna, 12. They even shared some of their bounty (a black T-shirt and a large basket) with their mom, Iliana, 39, a factory worker, who watched her gleeful kids beneath a string of white holiday lights hung up in a triangle, the shape of a Christmas tree. "I think the things are so cool," Johanna said, after trading her brothers their green light-up ball with a purple one. Her parents, immigrants from Latin America, were more reflective. "This year, the economy don't keep (like) years before," Samuel, 44, a construction worker, said. "Sometimes, it's really good. Now, it's slow." And for Schuttler, a medical courier, it came down to those smiles -- and his own. "I'm getting a lot more joy helping other people," he said. Sarah Youssef, a University of Michigan nursing student from Canton, was a first-time volunteer. She was put to work delivering gifts to five families in the neighborhood. She said she was glad to be involved, too. "It's nice to have everyone come together," the 26-year-old said. "Especially it's Christmas; it's not my holiday. It's nice to give back and do some of the work to make someone else's day." Contact Zlati Meyer: 313-223-4439 or zmeyer@freepress.com
