I am currently in the market for a new car and am wondering if it's best to get one with 4 wheel drive because I heard they get a lot of snow up there. Driving south along Old Haymarket - Google Maps?
Question:
1)If you look at Google Maps where you are on Old Haymarket going south, near the left turn on to the A5039 heading towards Lime Street, the photos of the junction show "Bus Lane" marked on the road, and a notice on a pole restricting access it would seem (but no "No Entry" signs as such as far as I can see). So how can you get on to Lime Street and then Mount Pleasant by car from the old tunnel entrance. I've tried looking on Google Maps for alternate routes but keep coming up against "No Enytry" signs everywhere ! 2) Do some (all?) of the city centre car park become full during some periods? Please name names if possible. Thanks for any info.

Answer:
turn left coming out of the Birkenhead tunnel then get into the right hand lane. Turn right at the lights up the hill (Hunter Street I believe) and keep in the right hand lane again up towards the start of Islington. Right here again and that will take you down to the start of Lime Street. The bus lanes do have cameras on them by the way so dont risk it. You can usually find space in most of the car parks. In fact there's a very good secure one in Queen Square - turn right out of the Birkenhead tunnel and you cant miss it

Is there some way Freshman @ Michigan State University can get around not being allowed 2 have a car on campus?
Question:
I am going to be a Freshman at Michigan State University. I am orginally from the Mount Pleasant area which is about an hour and a half away and the admissions office says Freshman cannot have a car on campus. I need to be able to come home on the weekends and my family will not drive me, so I NEED to have my car. What should I do? Another thing is what would be the best dorm for me to ask for, I don't want community bathrooms.

Answer:
You can't keep a car on campus, so if you want one, you'll have to pay to park it off campus somewhere. But the reason they won't let you keep a car on campus is that they don't want you going home every weekend - studies have shown you're a lot more likely to drop/fail out if you spend all your free time off campus. They could make a lot of money off you by making you pay to park on campus - they're doing this for your own good.

How can I tell if my motor mount and bog bone are split or busted?
Question:
I own a 98 camry, my battery died and being in a new city I decided to tow it to the Toyota dealership. After hours of waiting it was simply the battery, like I had told them, but they "found"that my motor mount was busted and that my top bog bone was split. I don't really trust mechanics so I am trying to find out how can I be sure that my car really needs this. I read that it should have a lot of vibrations and maybe even not very pleasant noises. Yet, my car does neither of those. So how can I double check that what they said is true?

Answer:
The motor mounts are easily checked by putting the transmission in gear and then torquing the engine against the brake while watching the engine. It is normal for the engine to twist a bit on a level horizontal axis but it is not normal for the engine to raise up on one side or the other. Put the transmission in drive and torque the engine against the brake while watching the engine and then put the transmission in reverse and do the same. The engine should only twist a bit on a level horizontal axis and should not raise up on either side and if the engine does raise up on one side or the other then the motor mount on the side that raised is broken. As for the "bog bone" (dog bone?). That is a term unskilled shadetree mechanics use to refer to the transmission torque strut. On the Toyota Camry it looks like this: http://info.rockauto.com/getimage/getimage.php?imagekey=903514&im ageurl=http%3A//info.rockauto.com/BeckArnley/BA%201041521-1.jpg I find it hard to believe that a skilled mechanic at a dealership would call that part a "bog bone" and not refer to it by it's proper name so I would caution you to beware of that mechanic. If the transmission torque strut is broke the transmission will raise up and tilt the front of the engine down when you torque the engine against the brake.

Where can I buy Haynes repair manuals?
Question:
I need to replace the transmission in my 1999 Ford Escort. Got the car for $1100, and I have a replacement transmission but I'm not paying a shop hundreds to do it. I'm confident in my abilities as a handyman to be technically capable of this task, but as far as what exactly to do I am a little foggy. That's why I need Haynes repair manual for my car. I live in Mount Pleasant, MI. Is there a store that would carry Haynes or do I need to order the manual from the website? Also forgot to ask: my transmission is manual. will there be a different manual for that? or is it the same either way?

Answer:
Let me start with a couple free options. Local library has repair manuals (Haynes, or Chilton's Total Car Care, which covers one particular model, like Haynes does) for most of the more popular cars like yours, Chilton's big book, or maybe even Motor or Mitchell's, which are better yet. They may also have online access to Alldata or Mitchell's. If so, take a thumbdrive and save what you need to that. Autozone.com has online repair guides that would cover this too, and all you have to do is register (they don't spam you at all. maybe uncheck a box giving permission for them to send you e-mails, I forget it's been so long) and enter the info for your car, and go to repair info, view repair guides. Most discount auto parts stores will have a pretty good selection of both Haynes and Chilton's TCC. If they don't have yours, they can order it for you, and it will get there sooner than buying online, for a few dollars more. Also, check your local used book store. The one by my house has them for around $8 usually, although the selection is not as good. Any of the sources I mentioned will cover your basic transmission R+R for both manual and automatic. As far as which are best, I'd say the library online sources, then the Autozone site, followed by the Chilton's TCC, then the Haynes, then the Motor or Mitchells or Chilton's "big books", so called because they cover multiple models, and are really thick.

After 20 years of being a fugitive, he was finally caught. What should happen?
Question:
Fugitive arrested 20 years after escape from federal custody Associated Press MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas - An illegal immigrant who walked away from an Oklahoma federal detention camp more than two decades ago was in custody Monday after his arrest during a traffic stop. Martin Hernandez Gonzalez managed to avoid federal detection for years because his case somehow slipped through the system, said Deputy U.S. Marshal John Laster. "For some reason, they did not file a complaint on him" for the escape, Laster said. Hernandez, a Mexican citizen, was serving a sentence of less than a year for a misdemeanor charge of illegal entry into the U.S. when he disappeared about 21 years ago. He left the minimum security camp outside the El Reno Federal Corrections Institution in Oklahoma with a little more than a month left to serve, Laster said. Hernandez's case didn't surface again until this fall, when prison officials were reviewing their files. A search found he'd been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Mount Pleasant, Laster said. The information was sent to the U.S. Marshals Service offices in the area. But without a warrant for Hernandez, marshals were apprehensive about arresting him. So Hernandez's name was added to the National Crime Information Center, a database used by law enforcement, Laster said. When a Mount Pleasant police officer stopped a man Thursday for driving a car without headlights on, authorities captured Hernandez. He was going by Martin Medina Hernandez, 40, the Mount Pleasant Daily Tribune reported in Monday's edition. Hernandez was arrested and charged by local officials with driving while intoxicated. He was being held at Titus County Jail on that count and a federal charge of escape while arrested. Authorities also placed an immigration hold on him, jail officials said. He will be prosecuted on the DWI charge, serve the remainder of his federal sentence in Texarkana and then be deported, Laster said. Evilmouse, love your answer. As a matter of fact, I like most of the answers I got.

Answer:
This person broke the law twice (possibly more). He should face the consequences of his actions now that he has been caught. He should be deported to Mexico (though personally i'd prefer he be sent to Sudan or some backwater African country) I also noticed people gave this post and almost all the answers here a thumbs down... seems like there are some criminal lovers/supporters out there.

Relocating to Charleston, SC?
Question:
Hello, I am relocating to Charleston with my wife and child. I am trying to determine what neighborhoods to settle in. I lived in Charleston 8 years ago for about six months and haven't been there since, so I am not up to date on the neighborhoods. Although I do remember Isle of Palms (great times)! I loved the history, charm, and the gentile quality of the Charlestonians. I would like to stay coastal and close to the city center as opposed to inland. I have been considering James Island and Mount Pleasant and would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of both. We want to live in a neighboorhood that has some life, and not one where we have to get into the car everytime we want to do leave the house to do something. A town with markets, coffee shops, etc... close by. Are homes on the intercoastals with docks and such worth it? Also, it seems that the housing prices are beginning to dip so we're thinking of waiting to buy, but would like to buy soon. Thanks!

Answer:
Ooh Charleston, that charming rustic place. Wow that must be 20 yrs ago though when I was in Columbia for Uni. But memories linger. And of course there is the Myrtle Beach.....!

Where are all the mounts on an 02 mitsubishi galant V6?
Question:
I am pretty sure i have a bad motor mount but i can not seem to locate all of them. My car shakes bad when stop at a red light with brakes applied. Also i have checked while switching gears the engine moves more than it should and makes a not so pleasant sound. So if some one could tell me the locations of them thanks

Answer:
There is a roll stop under the vehicle mounted to the middle brace. That's what keeps the motor from torquing too much. You'll ruin the exhaust flex pipe when the roll mount is bad.The roll mount will not give you a vibration or shake. that sounds more like jumped timing or a dead cylinder. Do you have a CEL lit? Only NGK spark plugs or you will cause problems
