planning a trip to nyc (esp. if you're from new york!help!)?
Question:
so i'm planning a little trip to nyc next month to see someone in concert on 42nd street. i am coming from massachusetts. but, i am most certainly not driving into the middle of manhattan. i intend on driving the majority of the way in (i.e. out of massachusetts and through connecticut, and somewhat into new york) then the MTA website suggests (coming from my direction) taking the red line (i guess that's what they call it) number 2 from wakefield 241 st in the bronx all the way down to 42nd street/times square. My questions are: 1.) Is there any place I can arrange to leave my car (parking lots, et cetera) at that subway station or perhaps the next (nereid avenue)? 2.) Is this a safe place to leave my car? Is this a safe area in general? 3.) I'll be driving into that subway station around 8:30/9pm. Is the traffic THAT bad there? (I'm from out-of Boston so I'm used to traffic but I don't want to deal with anything ludicrous.) Should I take a bus to the subway station instead from a further point? If so, any suggestions? another question about this: 4.) it says that those subway stations (wakefield and 42nd street) are open at all times-does that mean they leave hourly :o/?

Answer:
Since you don't want to drive into the City, I would highly recommend driving to New Haven, CT and take Metro-North New Haven Line from there to Grand Central. A round trip off peak ticket on Metro-North will cost you $28 and the trip takes about an hour. Once in the City, you can take the 42nd Street Shuttle (Black Line on the subway map) to Times Square. Good luck Native New York
