Questions Related to reading, massachusetts cars

I just moved and am looking to find some cheap Massachusetts Auto Insurance. Can anyone recommend a place?
Question:
I just moved to Massachusetts from Rhode Island and recently purchased a new car. I need cheap insurance for my car because I am young and don't make a lot of money. Has anyone reading had a good experience with a Massachusetts Auto Insurance Agency? I really would prefer to do this all online instead of on the phone. Websites are welcome! Thanks!

Answer:
You should research patiently, and get quotes from different insurers -take your time. A used car, and a clean driving record will definitively help you have lower rates. I had to do a lot of research and estimates because my old car broke, so I ended up leasing a new Honda, and insurance in NJ is ridiculously expensive. I strongly recommend you the website savingdrivers.com because it offers free and accurate quotes by e-mail; it is different from others because it is affiliated with just 4 excellent companies: Geico, Allstate, Century 21, e-surance; so after you fill 1 easy form, it will process all your estimates directly to the insurers and e-mail them to you (there will be no extra agents or unwanted stranger phone calls). It's also worth to try more companies independently like State Farm, or Progressive. Hope this will help you.

How much does Best Buy charge to install a car stereo in Massachusetts?
Question:
I ordered the stereo, wire harness, and the mount install dash kit. I made sure everything was compatible and UPS is bringing it tomorrow. Would it be easy for an amateur like me to install it myself? I already read about how I have to disconnect the negative from the battery and all that stuff, but if it's too difficult I'll just take it to Best Buy.

Answer:
If the equipment was purchased at BB then they generally install it for free if the equipment cost is over certain amount.

Car insurance rates for massachusetts?
Question:
I'm a new driver in Massachusetts and I was wondering what the average cost for car insurance is. I read from a place that it would cost about $3,500 and that seemed unreasonably high.

Answer:
How long is a piece of string :) also..insurance companies can base your rate on your credit history!! Like, someone with bad credit just has to be a bad driver! You must phone around and find out the best company for the policy you have on your mind.

Can a 15.5 year old purchase a car in Massachusetts (special scenario)?
Question:
First off, sorry this is so long, but please read the whole thing!! Alright, I've found literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity on an amazing car on eBay being sold out of Tennessee (and please don't patronize me or get on my case about that, I'm no idiot, I know a lot about cars, and it really is a unique opportunity). Now I obviously have no driver's license, not being able to get a learner's permit here till 16, and I'm NOT emancipated, like most kids, so it's a grey area whether I can enter into a legally-binding contract (only binding ones for minors are for necessities, which a car certainly isn't especially when I'm too young to drive it, and otherwise we can enter into contracts but it's not binding on our end (we can void it, the seller can't). But technically with him as a private seller, and me paying in full, in cash, is this even a contract? What penalties, if any, could I get for doing this? Also, I can't drive it, so I'd have to pay to have it shipped up here. Now I really don't want to register it or get insurance yet, because it's just a money pit especially considering no one will be driving it till July, but that means it'll have no plates. So I'm really just looking for someone to verify my plan, or tell me the parts that are wrong with it. 1) Purchase the car, paying in cash/PayPal (~$3,300) 2) Have it shipped up here by UnitedRoad (~$500) 3) Now here are the tricky parts: transfer of title to a minor, me signing for the shipment when I receive it, and finding some place to leave it for six months despite the lack of plates. So first, can a minor legitimately have a vehicle title (proof of ownership) transferred to his name? If not, one way of dodging all of these "underage" issues could be registering/purchasing it in the name of my company (under which I'm asking the question, too), by just calling it a company car which it really is if I end up using it to get to work since I'm CEO. Second, even if it's legal, the truck driver might be suspicious when I try to sign for the car, so can I have him just drop it in a parking lot or something (lol) or how would I convince him it's legal (which I believe it is)? Finally, I live in the city, and the skyscraper building my mom's apartment's in has monthly garage parking below, but the car would have no plates. Would any garage in the city take it (because I definitely couldn't leave a plateless car on the street at a meter)? Or would I have to rent like a U-haul car storage space or something, but could I even do THAT without a license or plates (they might even think the car is stolen if it has no plates and I'm not legally allowed to sign the title)? Or, there is a huge "park-and-ride" lot right on the Route 9 right before the Pike (I-90) in Southboro, and the cops have let my mom leave her car there for a day or two if she's needed to, but do you think 6 months is a bit much (lol)? Or, if we roll with the company thing, can I forget about insurance (I know, illegal in MA if I'm actually driving, but I'm not) and be able to get plates through the DMV (just for appearances' sake, because a plate-less car in the middle of a parking lot on the highway will draw a lot more attention)? And to be clear, the company is not just some crazy rouse of mine to escape the limitations put on minors; it is a legitimate incorporated business with customers, products, etc. (just check our site or call us), but I honestly think it can just barely qualify as a company car (therefore I can have/use it, but it's in the company's name (an adult for all intents and purposes), not mine, see?). Anyway, I really can't afford to get into trouble, and I know it could be a stupid idea, but I'd like to see if there's some way of making it work. Also, I have just barely enough money for the costs involved (but that money I was saving for a car anyway, so I'm not being irresponsible or blowing the only money I have for food or something), and can try to scrape together something for like U-haul storage if absolutely necessary (especially since that's monthly, not upfront, and through a promotion the first month is I think $1). Again, I'm not an idiot, so if this get's much crazier or too expensive, of course I'll just drop it and say forget about it. But to that end, I better not hear anybody say this is stupid, you're only 15, stop being an immature idiot, you can wait just like everybody else, blah blah blah. If you've got ideas or can verify/find the problems with mine, then great, I look forward to hearing your viewpoints! But if you've got nothing helpful, don't give me some dumb 1-sentence B.S. about how stupid this sounds, just can it! To be clear, CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is great, but pompous insults get old and they don't help not only me but any Ya Thanks so much for you're thought-out response! So in response to you, the first poster, you think that I cannot register it in the name of a business since as far as Massachusetts is already concerned, I'm the company's legal registered agent? Also, are you sure that I absolutely HAVE to have insurance on the car until I'm 16 as long as the presumption is I have no intention of driving it (same reason for no plates), and especially if in a storage space?

Seventeen in Massachusetts, want to leave parent?
Question:
My mom is abusive to my entire family. She's a thief, a liar and an overall terrible person. My family consists of nine children, four of which are older than me and have made it a point to not talk to her at all. I'm seventeen, and have four younger siblings aged 8-15. We all hate her for our own reasons, and life has become unbearable. My dad also lives in Massachusetts, and we all want to move. I'm seventeen, so this question is related more to me than the younger children. In MA, am I allowed to up and leave to my other parent? We normally just visit him twice a week, and I own a car. I assume those younger than I will have to go to court for it, but will I? Thanks for reading my long and overly personal spiel!

Answer:
you might have to go to court but i think you get to choose who you live with

Do enterprise car rentals track if we crossed the borders through a tracking device ?
Question:
We are heading to North Carolina from Massachusetts. As per Enterprise , we can't cross virginia border. If we do then their is surplus charge. I read in couple of forums that they keep a black box in the car. Do you know if this is true ? If you any experience, can you please share. Thanks. Chances are less that I will wreck the car. I am willing to take risk as long as they don't charge me crossing the border.

Answer:
GPS tracking keys DO exist and can be tracked in real time on the computer.

DUI in Massachusetts- I would like your opinion on my case for what you think will be the VERDICT at the trial?
Question:
Hi...Thanks for taking time to read my post. In May 2009, I got arrested for a DUI offense in Massachusetts and would like your opinion on it. I hired a great criminal defense attorney and my trial date is this week....but I am very nervous being that I have never been involved in any wrongdoings with the law and have worked hard to get where I have gotten in life. Here is a copy/paste of the POLICE REPORT (so you can read what the Police stated with some things removed for my privacy) May 2009, clear cool night1 around 03:15 am. I was on patrol on Rte 1 North a public highway in the state. I observed a Jeep stopped in the breakdown lane. I started to pull over to check on the vehicle when it started again, entering the travel lane in front of me. I was behind the vehicle traveling Rte 1 North. I could see something was wrong as the vehicle veered sharply into the far left travel lane, straddled the white markings on the highway traveling in both lanes, then swerved into the breakdown lane. I activated my blue lights and started to catch up to the vehicle I was a few car lengths behind at this point. The vehicle traveled the breakdown lane for about 100 yards then approached the Lawrence Street off-ramp at a high rate of speed. It nearly could not negotiate the turn traveling down the ramp. The vehicle then struck it’s two passenger side tires on the granite curb as it took a right off the exit. The vehicle finally came to a stop after I sounded my sirens. I approached and asked the lone female driver for her license and registration. I could see that she has glassy eyes was acting lethargic. She began fumbling around her vehicle for her paperwork. She handed me the reg and was searching for her license in her pocketbook. I asked her if there was any problem with her driving, or if she had taken any medications and she stated she was just going home. She lives in NH, but could not explain why she was heading East on Lawrence Street. She also had a large GPS screen on her Dash to help her. I now could see she had heavily slurred speech. I asked if she had been drinking or using drugs and she stated no. I asked where she was coming from and she stated she was going home. I repeated the question and she stated “no-where”. At this time she was being very uncooperative. I asked her if she would step from the vehicle to perform some field sobriety tests. She stated that she wanted to call her lawyer. I again asked her to turn off the vehicle and step out, but she refused. We went back and forth about 6 or 7 times. This was becoming a public safety issue in that I did not want her to start the vehicle and take off. I explained that if she did not step from the vehicle she would be placed under arrest. She refused so, with minimal force I escorted her from the driver seat of the vehicle16 and placed her in handcuffs. Officer David was present at this time. I double locked the cuffs and transported her to HQ where she was booked by officer Bone. While escorting to and from my cruiser I had to hold her up as she would have lost her balance. She was very unsteady on her feet. In the booking area she was again uncooperative demanding that she be able to call her lawyer. Inside the vehicle was the gps, her purse with some personal effects, and various clothing and personal items. I charged her with disorderly conduct, oui alcohol and marked lanes violation. ***Truthfully, this is my story of what happened and I plan to go on stand at the trial and explain my side of the story to the jury. I would like you to carefully decide how you would decide my case as either guilty or not guilty. ****I spend the evening getting ready at my mother's house (where I also live) and did not consume ANY alcohol ... at approx. 1:15am I said goodbye to my mom and headed to Boston to Logan Airport. My boyfriend at the time told me he would be flying into Boston and landing at 2:15AM. Please be aware, my relationship was EXTREMELY mentally abusive with him always breaking up with me. When I got to the Airport and went in to pick him up at baggage claim his flight had arrived but he was NOT there. I spent 30 minutes trying to get him to pick up his cell phone when I called and looking around the airport terminal for him. BUT HE WAS NOT THERE! Finally at 3AM, I decided to leave Logan Airport and go back home. As I was leaving Boston I plugged into my GPS the address to go back home. My GPS is the type that has a suction cup to the windshield and has a large screen. Due to this time of year in New England, the weather is always changing temperature causing the suction to lose its grip if I activate the AC or Heat in my car. I was traveling Route 1 home and my GPS kept on losing its suction and falling off and I reapplied it many times to the dash but because I was driving at the time it was not getting a firm suction grip....As I was trying to manuever my driving and putting ht

Answer:
The prosecution will argue you are the unluckiest person in the world. You failed to follow the orders of the officer. Your only chance is if the officer failed to offer you a chemical test. That leaves the disorderly conduct. You have a chance on the oui, if the officer did not do his duty. But you messed up too. Close call. Best of luck.

Is a Prius not an acceptable vehicle for a Class D Massachusetts road test?
Question:
I used the Massachusetts RMV website to book my road test for 8/1/2011. My sponsor is my Mom, and her car is a Prius. I'm 31 years old. (Yes, I just learned how to drive). Just looked at the vehicle requirements for the road test. Requirement #4 reads as follows: "Vehicles being used for a Class D or M road test must be designed to let the examiner make an emergency stop using the emergency hand brake. If not, the vehicle CANNOT be used for the road test. Any vehicle with a center console that does not have an emergency hand brake as part of the console CANNOT be used. Any vehicle that does not allow the examiner unobstructed access to the emergency hand brake CANNOT be used." Big problem. The Prius' emergency brake is located on the floor of the driver's side of the car, NOT in the center console. (If you don't know what I mean, the 2011 Toyota Camry has the same thing. It's a foot brake). Based on the language of the RMV (or DMV, as it's called in most states) it seems I cannot use my Mom's car for the road test. I've literally called every rental agency in the city to see if they will allow us to rent a car for the road test, and they all refuse. Simply having my Mom rent a car and using it on the test without the rental company knowing is not possible, since the RMV rules also state that rental vehicles "must have the rental agreement and written permission on the rental company's letterhead authorizing use of the vehicle for the road test." None of my friends drive, and I don't know how to get access to any kind of suitable vehicle now for the road test! Taking the test through my driving school is also not possible, as they're booked solid through the end of the summer, and I plan to move to Vermont in early August. I really wanted to get my license before I moved. Can this really be true? Can you really not use a Prius for a road test in MA because of where the emergency brake is located? Hi Paul, Yes, I am sure it's Class D: http://www.mass.gov/rmv/license/5classd.htm I agree that the stipulation seems really strange, but am also nervous and don't want to jeopardize my chances of being denied a license---like, not even being allowed to take the road test if the examiner deems the vehicle "improper" because of the location of the e-brake. If anyone from MA knows more about this and/or has direct experience, that would be good. Thank you!

Answer:
That really sounds stupid. There are many cars that don't have a center lever e brake. That means any large lincoln, caddy, suv would all be denied. That cannot be correct. I wouldn't worry about it. He can alway slam the car into park if its an automatic, or tell him he has an air bag and just chill. No really though that cannot be right. Try calling or stopping by and talk to someone. Also are you sure you're getting a class D or M? Usually a regular DL is a lower letter. My licence from CA and TX are class C. Sorry I couldn't be of help. I thought for sure you might have been looking at the wrong class type license.I'm sure your mom has a friend that would be willing to swap cars for the day. As long as it's current on tags and proof of insurance there won't be any problem. I let a couple of friends of my foster son use my car for their tests because of the tags and insurance problem. Good luck and I understand why you don't want to take any chances, especially with the DMV. They can be a royal pain in the butt!

How can anyone think Ted Kennedy is a good person after reading this?
Question:
1. He was caught cheating at Harvard when he attended it. He was expelled twice... once for cheating on a test, and once for paying a classmate to cheat for him. 2. While expelled, Kennedy enlisted in the Army, but mistakenly signed up for four years instead of two. Oops, the man can't count to four. His father, Joseph P. Kennedy, former U.S. Ambassador to England (a step up from bootlegging liquor into the U.S. from Canada during prohibition), pulled the necessary strings to have his enlistment shortened to two years, and to ensure that he served in Europe, not Korea, where a war was raging. No preferential treatment for him like he charged George W. Bush with receiving. 3. Kennedy was assigned to Paris , never advanced beyond the rank of Private, and returned to Harvard upon being discharged. Imagine a person of his "education" NEVER advancing past the rank of Private. 4. While attending law school at the University of Virginia , he was cited for reckless driving four times, including once when he was clocked driving 90 miles per hour in a residential neighborhood with his headlights off after dark, yet his Virginia driver's license was never revoked. Coincidentally, he passed the bar exam in 1959... amazing! 5. In 1964, he was seriously injured in a plane crash, and hospitalized for several months. Test results done by the hospital at the time he was admitted had shown that he was legally intoxicated. The results of those tests remained a "state secret" until in the 1980's when the report was unsealed. Didn't hear about that from the unbiased media, did we? 6. On July 19, 1969, Kennedy attended a party on Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts . At about 11:00 PM, he borrowed his chauffeur's keys to his Oldsmobile limousine and offered to give a ride home to Mary Jo Kopechne, a campaign worker. Leaving the island via an unlit bridge with no guard rail, Kennedy steered the car off the bridge, flipped it and went into the water. 7. He swam to shore and walked back to the party, after passing several houses and a fire station. Then two friends returned with him to the scene of the accident. According to their later testimony, they told him what he already knew, that he was required by law to immediately report the accident to the authorities. Instead, Kennedy made his way to his hotel, called his lawyer, and went to sleep. Kennedy called the police the next morning, and by then the wreck had already been discovered. Before dying, Kopechne had scratched at the upholstered floor above her head in the upside-down car. The Kennedy family began "calling in favors", ensuring that any inquiry would be contained. Her corpse was whisked out-of-state to her family before an autopsy could be conducted. Furtther details are uncertain, but after the accident Kennedy said he repeatedly dove under the water trying to rescue Kopechne, and he didn't call police because he was in a state of shock. It is widely assumed that Kennedy was drunk, and he held off calling police in hopes that his family could fix the problem overnight. Since the accident, Kennedy's "political enemies" have referred to him as the distinguished "Senator from Chappaquiddick".. He pled guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and was given a suspended sentence of two months. Kopechne's family received a small payout from the Kennedy's insurance policy and never sued. There was later an effort to have her body exhumed and autopsied, but her family successfully fought against this in court, and Kennedy's family paid their attorney's bills... as a "token of friendship"? 8. Kennedy has held his Senate seat for more than forty years, but considering his longevity, his accomplishments seem scant. He authored or argued for legislation that ensured a variety of civil rights, increased the minimum wage in 1981, made access to health care easier for the indigent, funded Meals on Wheels for fixed-income seniors, and is widely held as the "standard-bearer for liberalism". In his very first Senate role, he was the floor manager for the bill that turned U.S. immigration policy upside down and opened the floodgate for immigrants from third world countries. 9. Since that time, he has been the prime instigator and author of every expansion of and increase in immigration, up to and including the latest attempt to grant amnesty to illegal aliens. Not to mention the Pious grilling he gave the last two Supreme Court Nominees, as if he were the standard bearer for the nation in matters of right. 10. He is known around Washington as a public drunk and loud, boisterous and very disrespectful to ladies. JERK is a better description than "great American".

Answer:
The only reason people think that he is a good person is because they are ignorant and because of his last name. That man should be serving a life sentence in jail, not receiving a knight hood. It amazes me how far he has gotten despite all we know about his past. Just goes to show you how far a name and money can get you in this world. Laws do not and never have applied to the rich and famous in any country. Unless you are Paris Hilton.

Pls help me! what is a car loan audit and how do i file one?
Question:
I don't have much experience in this I hope im using the righjt words. heere we go. so my car was repossessed the other day I had lost my job and could no longer keep up payments on the car. I was doing some research on the internet about what my rights are when it comes to car repossession in Massachusetts and i read that I could do a car loan audit even after a repossession. If someone has some more info on what it is and how i go about doing this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Answer:
It still goes back to the original contract. If you broke the terms and conditions and the financial institution had the vehicle as collateral, they had the right to take it back to try to sell in an auction and try to recover some or all of the balance owed. You still owe the remaining balance and they can take legal action against you. The audit comes in to play if you think that they took the collateral with no reasonable cause (if you think that you were current with the payments) which does not appear to be the case. I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish. More than likely you still owe them money. Good luck
