How many pay tolls are there from Maryland to Texas?
Question:
Hi, I am traveling from Salisbury Maryland to Houston Tx next month by car, and was wondering if anyone would know how to find information or know how many tolls I will be going through to get there? Always good to plan ahead!!!

Answer:
Roads are free in the south. Once you pay that toll for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (not the tunnel), your free and clear on all interstate highways to Houston.

Cross country driving question for experienced truckers or frequent LD drivers -?
Question:
Something has been bugging me for a few weeks now & I just wanted to ask you folks out there who are very experienced cross-country drivers (truckers, etc) - I am not, as you can tell (!!) - I recently drove a car from Thousand Oaks CA (just W of Los Angeles) to Salisbury, MD (Delmarva peninsula, eastern shore of Maryland). Before I left I put each address into mapquest & printed the route out on my printer - it had me go out I40 east, which I expected, The problem thats bugging me comes at Tulsa OK - mapquest had me staying on I40 east, up to Nashville, and Knoxville, then jumping onto I81 & heading northeast up to Staunton, VA, getting onto I64 east- pretty simple from there, I65 goes thru Richmond & over to Norfolk, then you can go across the bay-bridge tunnel. But I brought with me a a Garmin GPS, and also put the ending address into that computer, and the thing took me completely different out of Tulsa - Garmin took me northeast from Tulsa OK on I44, up to St Louis, then I70 east thru Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, W Virginia, Pennsylvania, and finally dropping down into Western Maryland towards Baltimore & over the Bay Bridge - I am really confused on the difference chosen by the 2 map systems - which is actually quicker & better in the experienced driver/trucker's opinion? Maybe the route Garmin took me way up into IL, OH, W Va & Pa was actually quicker in some way but I don't see how - on the map it looks much quicker & more direct to head east on I40 to I81 to I64 (as mapquest indicated). Any ideas on this from you experts? Did Garmin take me far out of my way & cause me to drive alot longer than I would have on the other route? Thanks alot. sorry just noticed type in the middle of my question - I said "I65 goes thru Richmond & over to Norfolk" - of course meant to say I64, not I65. I did mean to say - what kind of freaked me out actually, and as all you experienced long-distance drivers know anyhow, the last 'leg' of a long long trip (say the last 7-8 hrs) is usually one of the hardest since you are often just sick of the trip & of seeing highway by then, and also timing wise, it ends up being the tail end of a long day and you end up finishing the trip frequently in the dark that final evening. So my point on that is, the darn Garmin, having me go across OH, WV, SW PA, and NW MD, as you guys who drive alot know, that is ALL MOUNTAINS !!! And big damn mountains too! (LoL) - Unfortunately, growing up on the east coast, I had NO experience before driving in high mountains and going up & down them, it was to be totally honest, scaring the HELL out of me those last few hours from W Va thru PA and nw MD - holy cow !! Those are some huge mountains and grades up there, and it goes on for HOURS !! Like it will never end man !! I was really starting to have a nervo

Answer:
both routes are good, *however, by going "Tulsa OK on I-44, up to St Louis, then I-70", you have to pay "turnpike tolls" through Oklahoma as well as the West Virginia Turnpike toll on I-64 the I-40 to I-81 to I-64 route does not have toll roads
