Can we take the auto train from Florida to Bangor, Maine and also take along our car?
Question:
We live in the Davenport area of Florida and we need to travel to Maine later this summer. Can we take the auto train? How long is the ride and what is the approximate cost of the ride plus accommodations?

Answer:
The Auto Train has only one route: Lorton, Virginia (which is just south of Washington, DC) to Sanford, Florida (which is just north of Orlando). You could take the Auto Train, but you'd still have a good amount of driving to do. There's an excellent website filled with practical information about the Auto Train at http://www.on-track-on-line.com/autotrain-tips.shtml.

Driving from Tampa Florida to Bangor Maine?
Question:
Has anyone ever driven from Florida to Maine ? We'd love to stop and see some cool things. We've never really been out of the southern states. We'll be taking the ferry from Bangor to Nova Scotia. We're going to spend 4-5 days getting there, planning on spending two nights in hotels and switching off on driving. I'm 27 and my sister is 24, it's our first major road trip, my sister is moving to Nova Scotia. Any suggestions on our trip would help a lot. We will be in a car, not a moving truck or anything, everything is being shipped.

Answer:
Hey, have fun and drive safe!! Great drive if you take the time to enjoy it! You'll love Maine and Nova Scotia too! Go to AAA and get some trip maps with all the sites marked... Personally, I'd stop near DC for the first night - is a week in itself to explore DC if you have the time!! But then again, the hotels ANYWHERE near DC are expensive!! Make sure one of your hotel stops is in Portland Maine - Stay a night in downtown portland - the Eastland Park Hotel is VERY nice and not too expensive - pool on the roof and nice rooftop dining/bar with panoramic view of portland and the harbor... the building is OLD and quaint (sp?) close to the waterfront and (if you are into it) a bunch of cool bars/clubs line the road to the waterfront... their is a great restaraunt there down the street - it is actually a boat... great food and nice atmosphere... forget the name though, but everyone there knows it and will point you in the right direction. LLBean is up a little further in Freeport-shopping 24/7!!! - huge cool store!! Take rt 1 north of portland for some great scenery of coastal towns... rt 95 north of portland is kinda a boring drive... Camden Maine on rt 1 is a touristy trap kinda place, but VERY beautiful... shopping, nice coastal harbour and some cool mountains (well, hills really) to climb or drive up and see some FANTASTIC coastal views of maine... Camden towards Bangor on Rt 1 is a beautiful drive too... Stop in Rockland and say hello to my folks for me ;) I am driving from NC to Rockland in July... for the 4th... Been doing that every year since I was a little kid...

Why does Bangor Maine suck so bad?
Question:
Im having serious trouble finding good Mental & Physical health care in Bangor Maine. A lot of terrible doctors here and at the same time any good counselors or therapists I find move away sooner or later for better jobs out of state or at least down to Portland. Then most the apartments I've lived in are filled with drug abusing freaks that stay up all night long partying. My landlords evicted several over the last 2 years. I am seriously sleep deprived no matter where I live because I find myself being woken up constantly by obnoxious neighbors at 2 in the morning. Just the other day a drunk neighbor drove his car over a cement curb when he forgot to put his car in reverse. My room mate called the police and the Bangor PD caught them red handed, behind the wheel drunk sitting with the car facing the building. Which by the way he almost rammed his car into. Well, did the cops give him a sobriety test and arrest him? NO, The Bangor PD allowed another lesser drunk fella drive his buddy home. It seems too over the years when I've called the police about domestic disturbances they seem to side with the noisy obnoxious people that want to stay up all night long partying. Apparently, according to my cell phone pictures, it's OK for the Bangor PD to let a drunk man off the hook at 4:30am just after he drove his car the wrong way over a barricade. Don't get me started on the high rents for these creepy dirty apartments. I could go on and on about how run down Bangor is and the slum lords are charging 800 to 1000 a month for all these gross run down smelly places. And even the places that are below 800 dont even look livable. So anyway we do plan to move so don't say something sarcastic like "Well move". It's just what I want to know is that back up until about 1990 Bangor was still a nice city. Though it was a lot nicer back in the 1970s, a lot more upscale people. But what happened??? Now Bangors filled with bath salt using drug addicts that just want to be obnoxious all night long. The city looks old and run down, and there are hardly any good jobs, specially not skilled educated jobs. All we have are underpaid temp service jobs and the gambling casino. And what is up with people with knives and machetes waked out on bath salts aka monkey dust and chasing people around??? What happened to the upscale Bangor of 30 to 40 years ago? why is is such as suckhole today? Why has this place gone down hill Socioeconomically? Both Financially and Socially. Every time I find a friend, co-worker, doctor, or other service provider that I really like, someone that looks smart and intelligent and truly friendly they always move away from Bangor? And sooner or later I'm used and backstabed by the people left behind that only pretend to act nice.

How much does a moving company charge?
Question:
We are looking to move to Sarasota FL from Bangor Maine. We have a 3 bedroom house with a 2 car garage. Does anyone have any idea how much we would be looking at? Is it better to pack it ourselves?

Answer:
If you pack it and load it yourselves (and unload) like with ABF you are probably looking at under $1000. It goes up from there. Your best bet is to make a ton of calls to moving companies, that's what I did.

Anyone know of a place that does a NOT so thourough Maine Inspection?
Question:
I have a car where the driver's side windows doesn't go down in 1 shot (I think because it's not on the track right). If you go down once it stops about half way and then if you go up half an inch it gets it back on the track and then it will go down the rest of the way. I have a feeling most places would fail my car for an inspection for this reason (even though it's not a big deal). Does anyone know of any place near the Brunswick, Waterville, or Bangor (I'm through all 3 at least once a week) area that wouldn't really care about this?

Answer:
You are dealing with a safety issue. Just take the door panel off and correct the problem.

Buying car from craigslist across the country?
Question:
well there was an ad of a car and it turns out that the lady had to move to maine with the car.. so she will have to ship it. well heres the message to be more clear "The car is still for sale. My 2008 BMW X6 is in great shape,no engine problems, damages or hidden defects. Hasn't been involved in any accident. It was always garaged and never kept outside. I'm a single mother with 2 children because I divorced with my husband and after the divorce I owned this car, I don`t need it and that's why I'm selling it so cheap. The car has a clear title, no liens. Transmission is Automatic and has 13,900 miles. The total price is $24,000 including shipping and handling. I recently was promoted and had to move to Bangor, Maine and from here the car will be shipped. It is very important for me to know if you have all the money to buy it or you need to get a loan for it. We will use eBay protection program for our safety and for payment I prefer to use an eBay safety Bank account. You have 7 days to inspect the car and I get the money after you make sure everything is ok and decide to keep it. If you don't like the car and want to return it, I will arrange to ship it back (on my costs) and you will be 100% refunded by ebay. I'm sure you will love the car and don't want to return it but it's good to know that you have this option available. I just need your full name and address so I can open a case. You must know that eBay will contact you without any fees." Have a nice day! Jane Just a bit scared because i have heard of all the fraud thats been going on craigslist.. just wondering on your opinions.. does it sound legit? its a really good car for a very low price which is why i am also a bit skeptical.. thanks :]

Answer:
Note these: 1) Ebay never acts as an escrow service on third-party transactions. 2) "Ebay Protection Program" doesn't exist on third-party transactions. 3) Once you wire funds, there is no retrieving them. They're gone. And the scammers are overseas, so there is no tracing them. It's a well-known, documented scam.

What are the might see things in Maine on a inexpensive budget?
Question:
My boyfriend and I are going to Maine during the second week in August. We are both grad students, so we don't have a ton of money to spend, but still want to have a good time. We will be there for four days and will be renting a car. We also plan on camping while we are there. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where to visit or camp (tent). We are more interested in seeing sites and learning about the history of Maine and the coast. (not super interested in hiking a ton and like more of a rural atmosphere than city) Also curious about ideas for some good lobster and clam chowder. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks much! Also, thoughts on flying into Portland, ME or Bangor, ME? We have the option, so wondering if anyone has thoughts on this as well.

Answer:
I vacationed in Maine two years ago and loved Acadia National Park. I flew into Boston and drove up but ended up at the Bangor airport to pick up my luggage. Bangor is about 45 minutes from Acadia.
