Is a 2008 Ford Escape with 86,000 miles too much?
Question:
I'm going in tomorrow to see about a 2008 black Ford Escape. The truck has a little over 86,000 miles going for 12,900. The dealer is willing to negotiate the price hopefully to around 10,000. From the pictures, the car looks like its in good or perfect condition. Now, this is my first time buying a car and I'm a female with not too much knowledge about purchasing vehicles. Any suggestions or word of advice would be pleasant! Thanks so much! I'll send the link to the car's website just in case... http://bohnbrostoyota.com/Harvey-Louisiana/For-Sale/Us ed/Ford/Escape/2008-XLS-Black-SUV/3837065/

Answer:
The miles are definitely on the high side. It's only about 4 years old. I wouldn't pay any more than 10,000 if it was in perfect shape. Ask to see maintenance records. If they can't that's a good way to get them to lower the price. Don't tell the salesman how much you're looking to spend each month and don't show that you like any car that you look at. They will prey on you and try to casually get info out of you. It's a numbers game at the dealer. Don't tell them ANYTHING. Only discuss the actual price of the vehicle with the sales guy and get that price as low as you can. NEVER pay sticker price. You should go online and printout what the prices people are paying and posting online. If you're armed with that info you will be less likely to be swindled. The monthly payment is for the finance guy AFTER you agree to a price with the salesman. Don't be afraid to walk out of the dealer. Tell them you are looking at other cars at other dealers, you don't have to get specific. Tell them what you are willing to pay leave your phone number with them and tell them if they change their mind to call but not to wait too long because you're looking to buy something soon.
