Why do people in Michigan get so angry about me buyin foreign cars?
Question:
My foreign car was made in Georgetown Kentucky. So what is the problem?

Answer:
Well chalk their reaction to you, for owning a foreign car, up to irrational patriotism. Almost all foreign car companies have manufacturing plants in the United States, which employ thousands of America workers. After the big backlash in the 1980s against Japanese automobile manufactures, due to them creating a better quality and cheaper product, the Japanese decided to move their production facilities here so as to appease those who felt that American jobs were being lost due to the superior products that the Japanese car companies were producing. So who are these agitated people trying to defend? It certainly can’t be the American worker, because the Japanese have brought more jobs to this country than they have taken away. Ultimately the only people that will benefit from the disdain of our citizenry towards foreign products that are manufactured here are the CEOs of big American owned companies. These are people that need no defense. When you put it that way, I guarantee you most of the people will think twice about their scorn towards you and I for buying American manufactured, but Japanese owned, products. Of course this slavish conformity doesn’t just exist in a consumer’s choice on what car to buy. This, almost self defeating phenomenon is especially pronounced in how rural and working class America constantly votes for the Republican Party, thinking that they are the party that espouses the traditional family values that Middle America adheres to. Little do these naïve people know that Republicans are the ones most responsible for allowing companies to outsource our technical and white collar jobs to India and China, thus giving our young little to no incentive to pursue higher education. Thus they are consigning this nation to be a service oriented country, in an age where the lucrative fields are all in technology and business. The very individuals who vote for the Republican Party because of its PROFESSED devotion to family values are the ones whose families are being torn apart by a Republican helmed war plan that separates husbands from wives, and fathers from their children, all so the Republican run corporatized war machine can have the man power to sustain itself. The problem you see with many conservatives’ discontent with the automobile industry is just a microcosm of what is occurring across our political landscape. In the rural backwaters of America, and in the middle class, Republicans constantly benefit from the support of those, who ultimately get betrayed by the very party they support. I liken many grassroots conservatives to the wife who becomes the perpetual victim of domestic violence. She always talks about how she is going to leave her husband for the way he mistreats her, but when push comes to shove, she is always lured back by his false promises that he will treat her more humanely.

Car assembly plant tours?
Question:
I woud like to tour an automobile assembly plant, somewhere in the United States, such as the Toyota assembly plant in Georgetown, Kentucky. I don't know how I would do that though? Do I have to apply? Do i have to pay to tour the place? PLEASE HELP ME OUT! Thanks

Answer:
BMW offers a tour of their South Carolina plant, last I looked it was like $5 or something like that check out the website. Haven't been to BWM NA's site in awhile, but check out the Greer,SC plant. I believe you do have to call ahead. In case you're wondering this is where BMW builds Z4's , M3's and the X-series suvs. Ok I got this off the BMW website oh yeah and it's the Spartanburg plant. Experience a Virtual Factory Tour at www.bmwusfactory.com, where you'll witness how BMW manufactures The Ultimate Driving Machine®. Or if you would like to visit the plant, guided tours of the factory are $5.00 US and $3.50 US for students and BMWCCA members. To schedule a plant tour call 1-888-TOUR-BMW (868-7269). While you are there be sure to visit the BMW Zentrum Museum, located nearby. The Zentrum is open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Factory tours are available at 9:45 a.m., 10 a.m., 12:45 p.m., 1 p.m., 2:45 p.m. and 3 p.m. and leave from the BMW Zentrum located on the BMW Manufacturing Co., LLC grounds. Reservations are required.
