Why don't Canadians ever recommend visiting Winnipeg?
Question:
Why is Winnipeg NEVER recommended as a place for international travelers to visit? Is Winnipeg not a fascinating city between the French elements of Saint Boniface, the historic significance of the Red River and Assiniboiine, The Victorian architecture of the Dalnavert Museum, The Freemasonry attached to Winnipeg's legislative building, The city's history of social activism, labour strikes, workforce diversty, unique villages like Osbourne and North End, The city's Farmers Markets on the outskirts The Folk Fest in the provincial park and the Folklorama The mix of city, prairie, woodlands, lakes, the mennonites on Pembina Highway, The mystery of the MTS Centre, the struggle to replace the NHL Jets that moved to Phoenix? The Zoo One Winter I rented a car from Minneapolis/Saint Paul and drove I-94 to I-29 on a cold dry -30-degree day determined to reach Winnipeg. There was a really unique folksy klezmer concert at the University of Winnipeg. I wanted to seek the warmth of this concert on one of Winnipeg's coldest days of the year. I saw the white snowy pastures along the North Dakota highway and the signs of Winnipeg appearing and excitedly reached the US-Canada border......only to get REFUSED Entry into Canada. My heart was torn. I was refused entry because I thought it was better to tell customs that I MIGHT be visiting some girl in Winnipeg I knew on myspace. Then I got nervous when they asked me to call her and I was sorry I mentioned her name. They then said 'WE have concerns and they wouldn't let me in." I just wanted to see Winnipeg. I will never get the chance to be there in the dead of winter again. But I saw it the summer after that and I had a hard customs entry yet again but this time the Winnipeg Folk Festival ticket stub got me in after a long inspection and I was inspected because it was documented I was denied previously. the issue was I didn't have that girl's number. Basically my aspirations for Winnipeg they confused with being something it wasn't, that I came all that way to see this girl. But to this day that denied entry hurts my heart Edit: Winnipeg was lovely in the summer, you're so wrong. I found really good food in Winnipeg. I ate at this place called "Pastry Castle" and it was REALLY good, REALLY delicious. I found a French-style Italian Gelato flavour in Winnipeg made from a dessert wine. But piecing the puzzle together, border customs gave me a hard entry because they really really really didn't think I came all the way to Winnipeg just to see Winnipeg, they thought I was trying to stalk a girl. They couldn't BELIEVE an East Coast American would go soooo far to see Winnipeg. That is SAD. It is the most underrated Canadian city. Let me end by saying this much: I have been to Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Venice, Oslo, Copenhagen, London, Montreal, New York, San Francisco....and I can honestly say that Winnipeg was one of the most genuine modest honest cities I've ever been in. I am VERY happy that I chose to spend my tourist dollars on Winnipeg. I want to go back; I'm a little nervous about crossing the same border that I had trouble with in the past but nobody listens to me. just hate a whole city and its history, throw it out the window....I can't believe what I'm seeing Winnipeg has hidden treasures, the more people leave it, the more the true locals stay, the more there is there that you can find unexpectedly, a book, a diamond ring, it is a place of hidden artifacts

Answer:
Actually, Winnipeg wants the Jets resurrected, not replaced. I love Winnipeg! The city is known as 'The Gateway To The West'. I have to be honest, I've never lived there, but it is an excellent city, with some recent issues that have scratched its reputation a bit.
