Where to take train from Chicago to east coast including car?
Question:
I'm traveling from Chicago to Massachusetts. Does anyone know if there is a train that would take our car and us from Chicago to the North East Coast?

Answer:
It is not possible for you to travel with your car on the same train from Chicago. The only US route that transports passengers and their automobiles on the same train is the Amtrak Auto Train that operates from Lorton VA to Sanford FL. http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?c=AM_Route_C&pag ename=am%2FLayout&cid=1241245666320 If you want to transport your car to the east coast search for an "auto driveaway" company. They can arrange to transport your vehicle wherever you are going. It will not necessarily arrive at the same time that you do, however.

How to get to AMC River East 21 Movie Theater from Millenium Station?
Question:
It's my first time walking Chicago alone and I'm meeting some friends at the movie theater. The address, by the way, is 322 East Illinois Street Chicago, IL 60611. I don't have a car so I'm walking and using the "L" or other possible forms of public transportation. What is the best way to get to the AMC River East 21 from Millennium Station on foot using the "L" or the bus or whatever? Can you please also tell me the lines, stops, and street names?

Answer:
It's about 7 blocks. If you walk, head north on Michigan over the river to Illinois, walk down the stairs head east: You can also take a bus but first you have to walk west 2 blocks to State then board the northbound CTA #29 bus. It will take you to the theater...$2.25: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

Is there a train that runs east from Rockford, IL (or thereabouts) into Chicago?
Question:
We are moving there and when family & friends come to visit, I would like to take them into Chicago to see the sights. However, I would rather not drive. I was hoping there was a train somewhere in the outer suburbs where I could leave my car and take the train into the city.

Answer:
Hi. The rates for the bus went up $1 as of today 6/1/08, it is now $19 Rockford to Chicago. Picks up in Rockford at the Van Galder Bus Terminal on Walton St in Rockford and also at "The Clocktower Resort". Drops off at Union Station on Canal St and drops off ONLY on request at Rush and Superior St (only pickup for return to Rockford is Union Station). There are 5 trips a day to Downtown Chicago. Van Galder is a thru-way bus for Amtrak so the person who mentioned that doesn't know, this is the only service Rockford to Chicago. It is cheaper buying the ticket direct from Van Galder, I am sure they are quoting an old rate or some discount ticket (AAA or senior citizen for example). If you have kids 12 or under going they can ride with a fullfare adult for $6 each.

Can you offer any advice on moving to Chicago?
Question:
Hi - I am a young professional female moving to Chicago from the east coast. I will be working downtown. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Specifically - I'd like to know if I will need a car, what area's I should look into / avoid, how I can find stellar roommates! Thanks.

Answer:
Hi i am also in the collar counties. Choose a reasonable walking distance to ur work. Like if you work downtown mostly you will choose to live on LSD (Lake Shore Drive). Trust me don't buy anything in Chicago! Sales tax 10.5%, Parking stickers, and finally the traffic. The areas that are nice is Lake Front ,Lincoln Park, and Hyde Park. Those are nice places to like but pricey. So I will suggest go to the collar counties. It the collar counties are nice such as Dupage, Will, Lake, and Kane counties. I will suggest Dupage since that is one of the richest counties in the United States. If you live in the collar counties i will suggest a car. If in Chicago don't get a car since of the price of gas. It is over 4 dollars. Just take the CTA or just walk. Trust me Chicago is a nice city. Remember take caution of the south side. Welcome to Chicago!

Where can I park for free over the weekend just outside of Chicago?
Question:
My family is visiting downtown chicago for a long weekend - but we are all driving in separate cars. Is there a place outside of the city where we can keep all but one of the cars parked for the weekend? We're all coming from the east, so something near the Indiana / Illinois border would be ideal. Thanks for your help! Parking at the hotel (downtown) is $30 per day and we'd like to minizmize those costs

Answer:
How about a tollway oasis?

i need a website that shows me the costs of shipping cars over seas?
Question:
i'm about to go back from chicago to my country in meddle-east... and im thinking about taking the car with me... can anybody please give me some good websites that show the prices of shipping cars & stuff overseas

Answer:

What are the best places to visit in a car trip from west to east coast (north) ?
Question:
Hi! I'm planning on making a car trip this summer starting from Washington state and ending at NY. I wanna know what good places are worth stopping by and maybe even spending a day at. I know so far that I'll be stopping at Yellowstone park, Mount Rushmore and the badlands ... then Chicago for sure, but I don't know a lot more. Any suggestions please ? Thank you !

Answer:
From your starting point in Washington, here are some suggestions: The Olympic Peninsula and Olympic National Park: http://www.nps.gov/olym/index.htm Mt St. Helens: http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/mshnvm/ San Juan Islands: http://www.squidoo.com/San_Juan_Island Seattle - Pike Place Market - http://www.squidoo.com/Seattle-Pike-Place-Market Space Needle: http://www.squidoo.com/seattle-space-needle and some other ideas of things to see and do: http://www.squidoo.com/visit-seattle-washington Traveling east across I-90 can be rather boring, so if you have pleny of time you might want to consider going across the North Cascades Highway instead of I-90 at least for part of the way across the state. The trip through the mountains is gorgeous and on the east side of the pass is Winthrop, a historic little western-themed town. Some other possible interesting side-trips on your way back south to I-90 include Chelan, Leavenworth, Dry Falls and Grand Coulee Dam. Spokane is worth a stop. Depending on when you travel through, you might catch a festival down at riverfront park. Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is also very picturesque. You could take a side-trip to Glacier National Park on your way to Yellowstone. Another interesting place to visit in Montana is Lewis & Clark State Park and Cave. The Grand Tetons NP is right next to Yellowstone, so if you can include that in your trip plan. Traveling across Wyoming you might enjoy the gun museum in Cody, Big Horn Canyon and Devil'sTower. I've never traveled by car from Wyoming to Chicago, so I can't offer many suggestions east of Wyoming. Some other answerers will probably have some ideas.

What is the best way to see the most of the USA with a limited VISA?
Question:
After University I want to go and travel the USA with 2 of my mates. The original plan was to fly to New York, buy a car and travel down the east coast. If needed we would get a Part-time job to obtain spending money, and then continue travelling across the southern/central part of the USA to the West Coast. We would then travel up the West Coast, and finally along the Northarn/Central part of the USA heading East through Chicago and Boston back to New York for a flight back home. In general terms it would be a circular route. After discussing the length of the trip we were planning on travelling for between 8-12 months, but VISA's restrict us from doing this. The options we have now are to try and do it in 3 months with a visitors VISA. The question I want to ask is can anyone see anyway around this, or any other options available? I thought about travelling the USA for 3 months, then heading to Australia, then coming back and doing another 3 months. Is this allowed?

Answer:
The best way to see the USA is by automobile. Your idea about traveling along the route suggested is good. You might want to try to go from NY to FLA then pick up I 10 and go across the country to LA. You would see many of the great Eastern and Southern US cities that way. Then go to Australia and apply for another tourist visa, Return to LA and go up the west coast and across the north and midwest ending back in NY. While you would still miss many sites inside this "great circle" it would provide a nice subsection of the US. Seeing the whole 50 states would take you about 3 years. By the way try to stop off in Hawaii on the way to Australia. Another excellent method would be to travel by Amtrack - no driving and you can also see a lot by train.
