Questions Related to crown, point cars

How do I stiffen the crown of my 8-point cover?
Question:
So, we just got these new marine-style 8-point covers, and I had a plastic crown stiffener, but it warped when I left it in the car over the weekend. So, any other ideas for stiffening the crown with common household items?

Answer:
One easy way to do it is to cut a tiny piece of cardboard into a little rectangle and fit it into the front of the cover (on the inside). There's actually 2 triangular flaps there that will hold it in place (If yours are made the same way they made ours in the Corps). If you get that front panel standing up nice and straight, it will make the whole cover look better. Other then that, you can bend a wire so that it fits in the octagon at the top of the cover, then startch it while the wire is inside, then remove the wire for wearing. Another option is simply to cut an octagon out of a piece of cardboard (Cereal boxes work ok) and fit that in there. There's really no reason to look THAT squared away though unless you're parading or something.

About a year ago i moved from georgia to a city called Crown point, Indiana.?
Question:
I reside in a sub-division of roughly 40 townhouses. the townhouse i stay in has an extremely steep driveway, along with my neighbors whose is also steep. I have a two car garage, which is where i keep my suburban. with my suburban being so large, i can't fit my work van (a mini-van) inside of the garage with it. This leaves me with the choice of only parking in the driveway. well, the driveway has claimed two transmissions of the van and i refuse to let it claim a third. the suburban is too long for the small driveway so it has to stay where it is, in the garage. There is a three acre gravel/grass lot across from my townhouse that the developer obviously left to tempt me. I began to park there about three months ago. I Received a letter about a neighbor complaining and was threatened to be towed. So i began to park in the street next to my townhouse about a month ago. Since this time i have received two pretty damn sticky warnings on my drivers side window. Not cool. Today, as i went for my 3 mile jog, a cocky neighbor drives up next to me and asks if one of those vehicle's is mine (my neighbor with the steep drive-way parks there too for fear of his trans, he has three cars). I say to him, yes, the van. He goes on and on about how he's the president of some committee and how he can ticket me for parking in the street after eleven p.m. I explain my situation to him and he tells me to park in the lot and take it up with the developer. is there anything i can do? I have always used the parking break. ALL the way to the ground buddy.

Why do people buy Ford Crown Victorias and mock them up like police cars?
Question:
I am astonished at the number of phoney police cars I see on the road. These are civilian models of the cars most commonly used by the police; people buy them, then festoon them with extra antennas, spotlights, small hubcaps, and anything else they can legally get away with. You can usually distinguish these frauds from the real thing, because real, unmarked police cars always have some lights and such, that are partially concealed by the grille or the windows, but still visible to a sharp eye. What is the objective of such people (almost always middle aged men)? Impersonating a law officer is a crime in every jurisdiction I know of, and these mockups stop just short of that. I have always thought that these people have an axe to grind with other drivers and are trying to scare them into slowing down - only rational explanation I could think of. I don't think it really fools anyone, though, and it seems like a lot of trouble to go through to make a point.

Answer:
...jerks! Sometimes. ;) My experience has mostly been that this is done not by middle-aged men but by older men, closer to sixty and above. And yeah, they're the cantankerous type who want people to behave the way that they think is right. They seem to feel that doing something like this will cause some of us young whipper-snappers to slow down and be safer, at least while they're in the vicinity. So yeah, they're doing it intentionally. At least that's my impression. I had an old girlfriend who bought a used police car for cheap. It had a spotlight and everything, and a huge powerful engine in it. It was a solid car, but if you passed it on the street you'd immediately assume that it was an unmarked police car. She didn't buy it to fool people, she just bought it because it was dirt cheap. This was back when we were very young and very poor. So I won't attribute ill motives to everyone who owns such a car. In fact, I think some older folks just like big cars and may be oblivious to the effect they're having - but they'd be a small minority. No, for the most part this is done by people who just want to be jerks. At least, that's what I think.

Backseat of Ford Crown Victoria police car - 10 points?
Question:
This is about the backseat of a caged Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor police car. The car has a divider between the front and back and the back side windows have the window bars on them. If you leave the regular vinyl backseat, it looks like there isnt much leg room in the backseat. If you add the hard plastic backseat it looks like there is an increase in the amount of leg room. MY QUESTION IS - Is it true that there is less leg room in the backseat of a police car that has vinyl backseat and more leg room if the police car had the hard plastic backseat. If so why is it the vinyl backseat has less leg room compared to the hard plastic backseat.

Answer:
Yes its true.

I've heard that '94 to '97 Ford Thunderbirds are notorious for wearing out their control arm bushings?
Question:
and the sway bar bushings also. Some say that those bushings wearing out seem to be a weak point of these cars. Is this also a weak point on the Crown Vicky, or is a Thunderbird a more cheaply made car than the Vicky? Thank you for your insights.

Answer:
it really doesn't matter what car ,rubber bushing suck anyway you look at it I try and replace all my bushing with polyurethane more reliable and better handling

Crown Vic Police car parts questions?
Question:
2000 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. I've been slowly making improvements to this car since I bought it six months ago. Now that I'm completely finished with the mechanical end, I'm moving on to cosmetic and body. I'd really like to find everything I need in one place. Is there a place I can items for Crown Vic Interceptors, like a manufacturer or something, or even a salvage yard that has a ton of ex-police vehicles? I want to replace the interior door panels on all four doors. (Rare on Ebay, and I really want all four doors.) I really want the "dummy" door panels used in the Police cars, but they're hard to find. Pllug the antenna holes and lightbar holes. (Couldnt find any rubber plugs at the autostores.) Get a new header panel and grill. I need some connections, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Answer:
Assuming you are in the US, Canada or Mexico, most "junkies" (i.e., junk yard dealers) are capable of ordering parts from other junkies, nationwide, so "one-stop shopping" is certainly possible, though you might not get everything you need in one shot (FWIW, I don't know too many backyard mechanics who buy everything all at once, if only to save money, should something go wrong, or you find you really don't want/need the part, or someone got it for you for free, or you run out of cash, lose a job, etc, etc, etc). Just look in your local yellow pages under "Auto - Junk Yards" or similar (depending on the yellow pages' publisher (try "parts", "salvage", "repair", etc)) that list something like "national parts locator service". If you can bring the vehicle to them, they'll probably be able to figure out what you need more easily than if you merely tell them what you want (respectfully, if you truly hadn't thought of doing all the above before writing this question, then you really should bring the car to them!). P.S. On a personal note, with the price of gas continuing to spiral upwards, I wonder that if you can afford to do this on such a heavy car (at least half-a-ton heavier than a standard CV), would you be so kind as to send a little of the cash my way? ;)

If you could afford it, what would be your dream car?
Question:
I would have to win the lotto, but my "dream car" would be a 1-year-old (used) Crown Victoria Police Car. You can see them for sale on the internet under 'used police cars.' I would want it in glossy black, with black "stealth" PURSUIT reflective lettering on both sides, big lettering, door to floor size. I want the white strobes, lots of them. Navy blue cloth interior. 8 speakers and gps. 5 point seat belts, red! Dark window tinting. Custom license plate on the back NOTACOP. Oh to dream. I never understand why people always want the most expensive cars. They just say money, if you know what type of cars they are. Most people do not, drive up in a Bentley 4-door sedan and everyone is wondering "what is it?" and have NO clue as to the price. My car would be one-of-a-kind and a blast to drive. Never could afford to buy and custom-build one, family and bills. But it is nice to dream... What's your dream car?

Answer:
My dream car? I have no Idea, but if I had a car I liked it'd be a totally pimped Rolls Royce, Hey, even 13 yr olds can dream of some high class cars.

Why is my 1988 Crown Vic stalling when hot?
Question:
Heya guys! I have a bit of a problem here w/ my Ford Crown Vic. Up until recently the car drove fine, except for one major exception. The car would violently stutter/hesitate/misfire when coming off from idle, until about after 30MPH. Even then though it didn't have too much oomph you'd expect from a V8. That problem it seems has evolved, however. It is completely temperature related at this point. The car starts great when cool, and runs like a champion for the most part (still a bit of a misfire when coming off idle and accelerating). Once that thing has been running for 10 minutes or so, and gets reasonably hot, as soon as I let off the gas and reapply she stalls right out. Starting it back up becomes harder and harder. Like I said, as the car cools it gets better. If I keep my foot on the gas (and break at the same time) the car does not shake as much as it would compared to it not being completely off the gas (if that makes sense). I've changed the plugs, rotor, dist, wires, map sensor, egr valve + sensor, o2 sensor, and had my fuel pressure checked (its good). There are also no vacuum leaks. One of my good buddies is almost 100% certain its the ICM, saying that its often apt to fail (esp. considering the age) and most of those problems are related to symptoms of one that may be failing. Anyway, I will have it brought to a mechanic again in time, but any ideas on the matter would be great. Thanks!!

Answer:
Even though the fuel pressure is good it could still be a loping fuel pump motor, especially since you say it gets better when the car cools down. And there is one other thing. This has been coming up a lot lately. Its not that its not getting enough gas, its that its getting Too Much Air. Your problem might be the MAF sensor in the flow tube is faulty. The MAF sensor does not have a fault code of its own, so when the heated wire/foil element in the MAF sensor goes bad it notifies you through another one of the components (MAP, or EGR, or O2). Its confusing, because everyone immediately looks at the sensor that is throwing the code(EGR) as being the one at fault...but its not, its the MAF sensor. Its fluctuating and sending bad messages to the MAP. Its telling the MAP to allow "too much/too little" oxygen to get to the motor; "more/less" than the motor needs. And in turn the MAP is trying to over-compensate for the "more/less" air by sending messages to the EGR to open and close the valve and let oxygen starved exhaust fumes into the engine. Open, close, open, close, open, close, in rapid succession, so fast the EGR valve gets stuck. Then the on-board computer freezes, and then your car shuts down. Some WD 40 should clearEGR it. And disconnect the battery. Replace heated wire/foil element in the MAF sensor. Also, you will need to unhook the positive side battery connector for 10-15 minutes and let the on-board computer memory clear and erase its memory as well as clearing out the codes.
