Do I need a four wheel drive car in Illinois ?
Question:
I am transferring to Urbana Champaign next semester and I am not sure whether I should buy a 4wd or if I should stay with my sedan. my longest trips should be no longer than 2 to 3 hours i guess. thanks !

Answer:
My ex went to the vet school in Urbana. Drove an old Mitsubishi Galant. From New York and back. No, you don't "need" a 4wd, unless the school is making you go fetch firewood.

Did you know that in Illinois, a car must be driven with the steering wheel?
Question:
Do you have any other weird/funny laws?

Answer:
In Texas there is a law that states that you can't ban cupcakes from schools :D Behold the power of cupcakes! Edit: Here is another one from Texas! "When two trains meet each other at a railroad crossing, each shall come to a full stop, and neither shall proceed until the other has gone." How would one go? Uhhh. In Denver, Colorado I have two good ones! 1. It is illegal to let ones llama graze on city property. Not many people that live in Denver own llamas hahaha. 2. It is unlawful to lend your vacuum cleaner to your next-door neighbor. Umm? In Pueblo you can't let a dandelion grown within city limits :O In California it's a $500 fine for detonating a nuclear device. In Hawaii coins are not allowed to be placed in one’s ears.

Can a teen driver in illinois talk while driving a car with hands free device?
Question:
soo my parents bought a new chevy cruze, it has thedeal where my phone will sync up to the car. and it has buttons built onto the steering wheel that i can answer the calls with while drivin and havin to move my hand. my parents wanna make sure that its legal for me to answer calls from them while driving if im using this? is it legal?

Answer:
A quick call to your local DMV will answer that. States tend to have additional restrictions on inexperienced drivers as they are the most likely to be involved in accidents.

What is the best route to travel from central Illinois to Bremerton, WA at the end of November in a U-Haul?
Question:
What is the best, safest route to travel from central Illinois to Washington State? I know it's about a 36 hour drive, and we are taking a U-Haul and trailing my car behind it. Are U-Hauls four wheel or front wheel drive? Is this a hard trip to make or should it go fairly smooth? I would appreciate any advice, thanks!

Answer:
That is pretty much impossible to tell. Of the three routes that google maps shows, all are on interstate highways. I would get maps (real maps, not ones printed from the internet) for all of the states along the way for any route. Bookstores and other places sell atlases that have road maps of every state, or you could go to any AAA office and get maps of specific states. Draw out each of the routes suggested. You could even add in one that went all the way to the CA coast then turns north on I-5. In the 3 or 4 days before your trip, check the forecasts on weather.com for areas along each route. Bear in mind that forecasts that are more than a few days in the future are subject to major changes - but it is better than nothing. Then, I would pick the route that seems to have the best prospects for decent weather. If you are making motel reservations for a stop along the way, make sure you know what the cancellation policy is just in case you need to change routes at the last moment. Interstate highways are generally well plowed in the winter and are frequently patrolled by the state police, so a little snow should not be an issue. Tens of thousands of people travel those roads every day, winter and summer, so your trip is not much different than any of those. Just in case, however, be sure to take cell phones and chargers, some bottles of water, food (not junk food - but decent food), blankets or sleeping bags, ice scrapers and brushes. If you have one, take a snow shovel, too. What size/type of U-Haul vehicle? My guess is that there are no U-Haul trucks that are four wheel drive. They will all be rear wheel drive. Vans might be different. You will have to get that information from the U-Haul location, for the specific vehicle you drive away with. Good luck.

How do I get to Illinois State University from Cook County?
Question:
Yah I live in the Cook county area near the wheeling or Arlington Heights Train station. I was invited to go visit friends at ISU and my parents said I cant drive my car does anyone know If I can take a train or somethin?

Answer:
You can take the Metra downtown and then take an Amtrak train to Bloomington-Normal (BNL). For Metra schedules, visit metrarail.com. For Amtrak, you can search schedules and book tickets online at amtrak.com. The trip from Chicago to Bloomington-Normal is about 2hrs 15min. Good luck!

* What is the Fastest but safest Route from Chicago, Illinois to Seattle, Washington...?
Question:
- I drive a V8 rear wheel drive sports car with low-profile tires that have the worst snow traction known to man. - Im actually in Rockford Il. which is really close to Chicago and actually going to Everett, Wa. which is really close to Seattle. - I'm just trying to get a route that gets me there in about 4 days but allows my car to stay on the road... any help or ideas will be greatly appericaited.

Answer:
I would suggest just getting on I-90 and going West. That highway goes all the way to Seattle, in more or less a straight line. The interstate will be plowed better than the minor roads, and if you wanted to go farther South to avoid snow, you'd add way, way too much distance to your trip. Or you could just fly...much faster, and cheaper overall if you include the cost of wear and tear on your vehicle and if you're going alone.

Fusion AWD vs. Accord and Camry FWD. How could this possibly be competitive or comparative?
Question:
How can Ford really do a comparison, taking an all-wheel drive car and putting it against 2 front wheel drive cars? I'm in Illinois and can say I've never even seen an AWD Fusion on the street. How about taking the FWD V6 Fusion and doing the same comparison with the FWD V6 Accord and Camry? I can't see that ever happening because you'd have to first add vehicle stability and traction control at a cost to the consumer to the Fusion and Camry. Accord is the only car with this being standard. Why, if this is a big safety feature, wouldn't it be standard and not an option?

Answer:
It's a pure marketing stunt for a company which is one step away from bankruptcy thanks to building gas guzzling vehicles that nobody wanted. The new Camry and soon to be new Accord make more HP than the Fusion and have better styling than the Fusion. Now, only Honda needs to put the Accord in NASCAR and no American model will ever win again....

Are Led lights allowed (illinois law )?
Question:
I was just wondering are led light allowed in illinois, i was just wondering because i have been in car shows and i am trying to make my car nice. I am not planing on driving with them on at no point. My older brother has light's all over his car. wheel's/inside/under glow and he has never been in trouble because of them. And i asked him and he said the only really way you can get ticketed for them is if you drive with them on ( he has done it ) What do you all think? I DON"T WANT ANY ANSWER'S THAT I SHOULD CALL THE POLICE AND DMV I HAVE DONE THIS AND THEY DO NOT HELP AT ALL. i am just now moving from china to illinois and have them on my car, so i was just wondering what's up?

Answer:
They will be just fine.

What does it take to legalize a custom vehicle in Illinois?
Question:
my neighbor and i are trying to make a car that floats, so we are going to modify a kayak to have wheels and a motor out of his old 3 wheeler, and we would love to drive it around on the street

Answer:

Can I drive from San Francisco to St. Louis in the winter?
Question:
I would love to take a nice road trip this month to see my family in Missouri and in Illinois, but I have a rear-wheel drive car. Can I safely make the drive now, or should i wait until weather and road conditions are better? Has anyone made this drive under current conditions with rear-wheel drive?

Answer:
Yes, I have. Take I-5 south to Los Angeles, then take I-10 East to Indio. Exit near Indio and take Highway 86 South to El Centro, the I-8 East to Tucson. In Tucson, stop at a Wal-Mart and buy the cheapest US Highway Atlas they have for sale, get back into your car and go to Los Cruces New Mexico. Then North East through the Texas Panhandle and whatever else is in between that area and St. Louis. When I did it I had snow and ice all the way from Las Cruces to Springfield MO and on to Michigan. Take an extra blanket.
