Two cars leave chicago at the same time. One heads due west while the other heads south...?
Question:
After 15 minutes, the westbound car had gone 5 miles father than the southbound car,and they are 25 miles apart. How far has the south bound car gone?

Answer:
Draw a diagram. The two cars' current positions form a right triangle with their starting positions. Let x be the distance the westbound car has gone, which is the base of the triangle, and let y be the distance the southbound car has gone, which is the height. Here's what you know about the relationship between x and y from the problem: The westbound car went 5 miles further: x = y + 5 The distance between the cars (the hypotenuse of the triangle) is 25: 25^2 = x^2 + y^2 Plug the value for x from the first equation into the second equation and solve for y. x = y + 5 25^2 = x^2 + y^2 625 = (y + 5)^2 + y^2 625 = y^2 + 10y + 25 + y^2 2y^2 + 10y + 25 = 625 2y^2 + 10y - 600 = 0 y^2 + 5y - 300 = 0 (y + 20)(y - 15) = 0 y = 15 The southbound car has gone 15 miles.

two cars leave chicago at the same time. One heads due west while the other heads south...?
Question:
After 15 minutes, the westbound car had gone 5 miles father than the southbound car,and they are 25 miles apart. How far has the south bound car gone?

Answer:
W = west distance S = south distance W = S + 5 distance apart is 25 = sqrt( W^2 + S^2 ) To solve this, square both sides 25^2 = 625 So we get 625 = W^2 + S^2 Plug in for W = S + 5 625 = (S+5)^2 + S^2 625 = S^2 + 10S + 25 + S^2 Now use the quadratic formula, to solve for S. * Note: this assumes a flat Earth. Since the real Earth is not flat, the real answer is not quite the same as you will get from these formulas.

How far west can the Chicago Metra take you?
Question:
I'm going to college next year in downtown Chicago, without a car, so my parents will have to come pick me up every time I need to come home. We live in eastern Iowa, about 3 hours away from Chicago. Does anyone know how far west the Chicago Metra can take me so they don't have to drive so far each time??

Answer:
The western most stop on the Metra system would be Aurora. There is however, a great bus line that provides safe low cost service between Iowa and downtown Chicago daily called Burlington Trailways. That would be my suggestion due to the direct service. Their buses are really nice and they often play movies enroute. They serve several stops in Iowa and complete information can be found on the company website at; www.burlingtontrailways.com Good Luck.

How can I get from Lake Forest to West Chicago IL?
Question:
I need to get to West Chicago (60186) from Lake Forest Illinois and I do not have a car... is there a way possibly by train to get there? I can get to Ogilvie station from Lake Forest but I don't know how to go about getting to West Chicago from there? Honestly I'm trying to get to Hedgehogs by Vickie. soooo anyone know if this is possible?? I just don't want to have to spend a million dollars on a taxi

Answer:
You would have to take a train to Ogilvie Station downtown and then take another UP-West Line train at the same station to get to West Chicago. Go to metrarail.com for schedules. Assume that this trek will take at least three hours' time one way! Maybe longer.

How far from Chicago will the second car overtake the first car?
Question:
One car leaves Chicago traveling west at 60mph. Two hours later, another car leaves Chicago west at 68mph. How far from Chicago will the second car overtake the first?

Answer:
the first car got a two-hour head-start... at 60mph, after 2hrs it's 120 miles ahead the second car will gain 8mph every hour, so you gotta divide how far it's behind (120 mi) by the 8 mile gain to see how long it takes to catch up... 120 / 8 = 15 hrs to catch up 68mph times 15 hrs = 1020 miles away from Chicago

Hi: Does anyone know anything about or in the past has Dealt With "Haggerty Ford" in West Chicago, IL?
Question:
Any reviews or experience with this Car Dealership "Haggerty Ford" and are they a good company to purchase a Vehicle from located in West Chicago, IL ? Thanks Community.

Answer:
All car dealerships pretty much work the same way, they want to squeeze every last penny, from the sales price right down to the financing and trade in. What you need to do is find someone you know who is good at haggling and take him with you to negotiate. It would even be worth it to pay someone who knows all about it a few hundred to come with you, you'll save thousands.

Where is a good place to park and ride into Chicago from the west?
Question:
We are taking a family weekend getaway to Chicago and I was wondering where a good and safe place would be to park our car and ride into downtown Chicago. We are coming from Omaha, NE. I don't want to pay $40 for downtown parking, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Thanks!

Answer:
Since you are coming from Omaha, I would assume that you are taking I-80 across and then I-55 up to the city. In that case, you could park at Midway Airport and take the CTA Orange Line downtown. You would not want to park in the CTA lot, but rather the economy lot for the airport since the CTA lot is only for daily parking. You might also consider using one of the third-party airport lots like http://www.parkrideflyusa.com/mdw-chicago-midway-airport-parking/ or do a search for "Midway Parking". The next best option I can think of would be to drive north on I-294 to I-90 east and park at the Cumberland stop on the Blue Line. There is a huge parking garage there for $12/day. If I had more information on where you are staying, I could give more advice on how to get to your hotel on trains and buses. You could also use the trip planner function at http://www.transitchicago.com . Usually it gives good routes, but it can be off sometimes.

Will I need my car in Chicago?
Question:
I am planning to move there soon. Many friends who live there tell me that public trans and taxi's are plentiful. I could use the extra money from selling my car, if i don't need it. I will be living in West Chicago. Okay so what area can i live in and not require a car...because my friends make it seem so easy. one of my friends live in lincoln park and she loves not having a car. Any areas that are convenient enough?

Answer:
I think no matter where you live in the Chicago city limits (where the CTA operates) it is possible to get by with no car. However most Chicagoans who do not have unlimited funds for cabs and renting cars will tell you that it is important to have access to a car. You don't have to have a brand new car with maxed out insurance, but if you have a car in good working order that you take car of, you'll definitely be happy to have it. I have a car but I don't use it to go to work or anything else that has to do with downtown Chicago. I do however use my car for anything really local or for any type of shopping... From my place if I wanted to go to the nearest Target I could walk to the corner (wait for 10 minutes) and take the #55 bus to Cicero, (wait another 10 minutes) then take the Cicero bus twenty block south to Target. A trip that may take ten minutes at most in my car could take almost an hour via the bus in both directions, and that doesn' include lugging your bags around and maybe having to stand on the bus because all of the seats are taken. I can however walk to the grocery store and a few restaurants and bars as well, and I've gotten by just fine when my car was in the shop for repairs. I would say if you're on the Near Westside you can get by with no car, but the truth is if you get rid of your car, at some point you're going to have to rent a car or make friends with somebody who owns a car. My friends in the neighborhoods all own a car or are dating somebody with a car. I'm friends with two couples who can afford to live downtown and one couple owns a car, and the other is looking at buying a car. My advice: Keep your car for a year and if you don't need it, get rid of it. But make sure you go through WINTER in Chicago with no car before you get rid of it.

A car leaves chicago traveling west at 45 km/h (just setting up the equation)?

Things for teens to do in Chicago/west suburbs?
Question:
We have a car and some cash not a lot. But any places to go besides Yorktown Mall? And we don't really want to go downtown. We're bored but any fun places? Cool bowling alleys even? Whatever ya got just let us know. I don't really know how to give more info? We just kinda need ideas.

Answer:
Lucky Strike in Lombard, near the rear of the newer Yorktown additions. I think there may be some wallyball places around there too, if not Arlington Heights for sure. Ditka's indoor sports dome somewhere near Burr Ridge or Hinsdale Possibly even a comedy show depending on how old all of you are You can always go to the theater at Lewis University in there is a show too, maybe even at Drury Lane
