You don't need a car in C/U. Green Street has just about everything and there is public transportation to the mall.

My ex went to the vet school in Urbana. Drove an old Mitsubishi Galant. From New York and back. No, you don't "need" a 4wd, unless the school is making you go fetch firewood.

Hi, my little brother is going to college at the Univ of Illinois: Urbana Champagne. He's an international student but is an American citizen. Just wondering how the process works: he's 18 yrs old, never had a driver's license, has taken a driver's test in California but failed (where we're originally from). So just wondering what he has to do: does he need to take a permit test? How long does the process take? When he can earliest get his license from day one starting? A place to rent a car to take the driving test in (we have no family in Illinois)? Anything he needs to bring? etc? go to any D.M.V, facility & pick up a copy of the rule,s of the road , study that carefully , when you think your ready ..go back bringing proof of age & residency , take the written exam , if he passes that he will receive a learner,s permit , he may then practice driving with a licensed driver in the car with him , when he feel,s ready & confident behind the wheel he can then go back for a vision test & an actual road test , all this will cost certain fee,s but if he passes he will receive a driver,s license ....there will be a background check & proof of insurance must be made available but if you meet all these requirement,s he will get his license....good luck!
