Questions Related to oak, park cars

Provided By Y! Answers

What do you guys think about the area right around UCDMC in terms of safety? The North Oak Park area?
Question:
what would: 1) live there 2) park your car there overnight 3) walk around in that area at night...?

Answer:
Its not safe, many drug addicts live in this area and frequent the "hood" looking for things to steal. Also a few blocks away at light rail station a kid was killed for his starter jacket. Be careful, its safer during waking hours.

Can the city of chicago boot my car in the village of oak park il?
Question:
If I park on the street in oak park

Answer:
No, that isn't their city.

How is living in Oak Park, Illinois? Is it safe, easy to get around w/o a car, etc?

Answer:
I worked in Oak Park for a few years....Lake and Oak Park Ave. The town is getting worse and worse. The crime rate is going up and peoples safety is now in jeopardy. There are punks and gangbangers out on Madison and South Blvd at night. It's a shame it once was a nice town.

How safe is OAK PARK, IL?
Question:
I am applying to West Suburban College of Nursing in Oak Park, IL. If accepted (fingers crossed), I will drive to the college and park my car in their parking lot. Beside grabbing lunch in the area (maybe I'll bring my own lunch if the area is shady) I don't think I'll be doing much walking outside of the school. Is it safe for a girl in her 20s to be alone in the parking lot? I might be doing night/weekend classes plus clinicals that may run late at night. THANKS!!!

Answer:
Questions about any U.S. city -- go to http://www.city-data.com For Oak Park, Illinois: http://www.city-data.com/city/Oak-Park-Illinois.html Crime is a little less than U.S. Average. There were only two reported rapes in 2008. If you are worried about safety carry a Jack Russell. Or a Charter Arms Bulldog.

Question:
I live int he 200 block of south maple in Oak Park and I would like to rent a parking space near by. I would also like to get a job down town but dont see how thats possible since there is only 2 hour parking on my block during the day. Does anyone know how to get around this? and what am I supposed to do on holidays?

You have to RENT parking spaces?? wow....

Is Oak Pass Road off Highridge Drive in Los Angeles next to Beverly Park open to public cars?
Question:
My Grandparents live at San Ysidro Drive close to Summitridge Drive. I went on Googlemaps and it says to take Summit Ridge Drive to High Ridge Drive then to Oak Pass Rd to Hutton Dr. Deep Canyon Drive to Mulholland, My Grandfather told me that on Oak Pass Rd there was a gate that was locked and could only be opened by residents. Is this the case now or can one use this route to the Valley? My Grandfather never tried it since he was afraid that there was a gate. His brother used to live on Oak Pass Rd and gave him a key ever since his brother moved he did not take it. Since we love exploring new roads I would like to try this out so he does not have to go all the way down his road to Benidict Canyon to the Valley. Any help would be most appreciative since Googlemaps gives this route but I do understand that it can't be accurate. Has the gate been removed or is it open to public traffic and when was this done?

Answer:
The gate seems to be at Summitridge and Mulholland. I don't recall a gate on Oak Pass Road. You should try it for your grandfather (who must be LOADED with money if he lives up there). However, there are a lot of twists, turns, and name changes. Normally when a street goes straight, it stays the same. But Oak Park and other streets turn 90 degrees at some intersetions, where the physical street itself goes straight under a different name. It might be a bit much for him.

carelton of oak park (Chicago area) cheap or expensive?
Question:
my mom, sister, and i are going to chicago around the 2nd or 3rd of july. we drive there every summer to spend time with relatives, but my great aunt died recently, so we won't be able to stay in her house this year as we normally do. so i was wondering if the carelton of oak park is a somewhat inexpencive place to stay. last year, my aunt and a few other people came for the funeral and they stayed at the carelton. i spent a couple of nights with my aunt and i really liked the hotel, but i don't know the rates. a hotel in the downtown area woulld be ok too, but that seems like it would be harder since we are driving to chicago and will have to keep a car. anything will help!! thanks :)

Answer:
Oak Park cheap but a bad neiboorhood with crimes and drugs

Living in Oak Park vs. Downtown Chicago?
Question:
I've just graduated college and am looking to get an apartment. Seeing as I went to college in River Forest, I know the Oak Park area pretty well, so I'd be comfortable living there, I think. I got a job (a career job) on Michigan Ave. So if I lived in Oak Park I could take the green line to work (I don't have a car). At the same time, a lot of people have been telling me to look downtown either on the North Side or in the Loop area. Now I'm trying to make a pro/con list for Oak Park vs. Chicago, and if I do live in Chicago, what neighborhood to live in. I would love some input! A little more about me. I was raised in the western suburbs, I'm planning on living alone, I need to be able to live my life without a car.

Answer:
Well, I grew up in Oak Park (still am) and I say try Oak Park. Everyone I know who lived in the city moved because of familial reasons (like starting a family.) But if you're young, just stay in the city... Oak Park's pretty boring anyways.

Commuting from Oak Park to Naperville Everyday?
Question:
I just landed a new job in Naperville and been looking at apartments in the west suburbs. I've noticed that most apartments in Naperville are expensive and not so expensive in Aurora. I visited Oak Park several times and really like it. I'm an urban/city kind of girl and have an appreciation for the arts too and find this suburb to be perfect for me. Aurora doesn't seem so bad but it is also kind of far from the city (where all the action is). I plan on getting a roommate (would like to pay no more than $700/mo. for rent) and was wondering if the commute from Oak Park to Naperville everyday is feasible? I'll be working 9 to 6 Monday through Friday and I'll be driving my car too. Should I look into living in Aurora instead? Thanks!

Answer:
Let's start with the rent. If you think the rents in Naperville are high I would imagine they are astronomical in Oak Park unless the rates have come way down. I know that Oak Park had the highest house prices in the area averaging $900K. Commute from Oak Park - you could take the train but it would not be direct - UP West to Olgilvie, walk three blocks to Union Station and take the BNSF out to Naperville. And that lands you five blocks north of downtown. thanks to Naperville's curmudgeous short sighted founders that didn't want the railroad going through their little village at the time. Naperville is so spread out odds are that you'll have to drive so I-290 to I-88 and exit at Naperville Road and then wherever you work. The drive in won't be so bad but as someone who occasionally takes the Eisenhower east in the evening the traffic back into the city is ALWAYS backed up starting in Hillside to the point you will probably want to take the alternate route of Roosevelt Road. Having said all that, Aurora is right next door and will be a much easier commute. Aurora and Naperville are spread out and some commutes can be a little long but far better then from Oak Park. I also had a coworker that commuted from Naperville to Oak Park and didn't care for it, though he did love Oak Park. So it depends on several factors: - Do you plan to have the Naperville job for a while or would you eventually like to work in the city or Oak Park? - Do you have a lot of friends in the city to where you would be driving that way to visit them anyway? Also if you like arts take a look at Elmhurst. More bucolic than Oak Park but very nice, and right along the UP-West Metra line. It's not close to Naperville but closer than Oak Park, I-294 south to I-88. I-294 in that area always seems to move unlike I-290.

$300 Mortgage in Detroit Suburbs??? (Ferndale/Royal Oak/Hazel Park, MI area)?
Question:
I just turned 26 and live with my mom. I'm ready to leave the nest, but I can't see myself paying rent for an apartment that I will never see a return on. After reviewing my monthly expenses, I can only afford $300 for a mortgage, taxes, AND insurance. Do you think it's likely that I can find a foreclosure in the Royal Oak/Hazel Park/Ferndale area that I can afford? I've been seeing many that need work for $10,000 , but I won't have the money to invest in major repairs. I wanted to finish paying off my car at the end of '09 and then start my home search, but everyone is telling me to jump on these houses now. I'm SO confused...Is there a such thing as a $300 payment for a QUALITY home that's move-in ready?

Answer:
You will not be able to find a home with a $300.00/mo payment. Your taxes alone will be $125 - 150.00/mo! You should wait a while, save up some money for a down payment & pay off your car.
