State Police License Plate Frames. Are they legit? Question: If you've ever noticed anywhere, at least in Illinois, cars driving around with license plate frames that say "state police" on them, but the car has a normal license plate and usually is a normal car? Are these actually state police or just a novelty item? And if they are legit, what power and purpose do these cars usually serve? Answer: The way that you describe this, it sounds like it is less official and more support oriented in nature. Although the driver may indeed be a state trooper, the likelihood is that it is a personal vehicle. Here in California, we have a similar thing with license plate frames that have the radio call letters of the department that the driver either is a member of or supports. |

I'm trying to visit a friend at Northern Illinois University, how do i get there without a car?!? Question: I go to Illinois state and I'm going to take the train from Bloomington-Normal to union station in Chicago, whats the best way to get to the niu campus, like train or bus and how... help? and I couldn't find a train station near Dekalb so the more detailed the answer the better, i really need help Thanks! Answer: Is your goal to go directly from B-N to DeKalb, or do you need to stop in Chicago for some reason? If you don't, I'd take a Greyhound from B-N to DeKalb...it's your most direct route. Alternatively, the Huskie Bus runs from the Elburn Metra station to NIU. Taking a cab from Union Station to DeKalb is ridiculous...the cost would be astronomical, if you could even find a cab who would do it! |

Is it normal to have to wait weeks for car plates when getting loan through Chase Bank? Question: I purchased a car a couple days ago from a private seller. I financed the car through Chase Bank. After all the papers were signed they told me that they would mail me my plates in 2-4 weeks, and when I asked for a temporary plate they said they don't do that. Is this normal? The girl I bought the car from wants me to mail back her plates, but I don't think I can have the car parked on the street without plates. I live in Illinois and by law I have 20 days to submit the info to register the car, however it is illegal for me to drive it until I do so. Thoughts? I'm unable to register the car without a title. Since Chase Bank is the lienholder, they hold the title until it's paid off. Like when you finance a new car through a car company (e.g. VW Credit) the dealer provides you the plates. However, Chase can't give me temporary plates like a dealer can. Answer: The bank shouldn't have anything to do with the plates. When you go to DMV to register the car, they give you the plates. |

At the Six Flags Great America amusement park in Gurnee, Illinois, there is a roller coaster that...? Question: At the Six Flags Great America amusement park in Gurnee, Illinois, there is a roller coaster that incorporates some fo the latest design technology and some basic physics. Each vertical loop, instead of being circular, is shaped like a teardrop (Shown in the figure). The cars ride on the inside of the loop at the top, and the speeds are high enough to ensure that the cars remain on the track. The biggest loop is 35 m high, with a maximum speed of 31 m/s (nearly 69.44 mps) at the bottom. Suppose the speed at the top is 14 m/s and the corresponding centripetal acceleration is 3.2 g (where g is the free-fall acceleration). The acceleration of gravity is 9.8m/s^2. (Figure:http://img4.imageshack.us/i/uthw009number37.jpg/) a) What is the radius of the arc of the teardrop at the top? Answer in units of m. b) If the total mass of the cars plus people is 1837kg, what force does the rail exert on it at the top? Answer in units of N. c) Suppose the roller coaster had a loop of radius 23 m. If the cars have the same speed (14 m/s) at the top, what is the centripetal acceleration at the top? Answer in units of m/s^2. d) What is the normal force at the top in this situation? Answer in units of N. I know this question is really long. So thank you thank thank you! to whomever decides to tackle it in advance. mwah <3 Answer: a] a_centripidal = v^2 / R R = V^2 / a_c R = (14)^2 / (3.2*9.81) = 6.24 m b] Sum Forces: j: N - mg = m*v^2 / R N = mg + m*v^2 / R N = 75,688 N **I can't open the link because i'm at work so I'm not sure what the Free Body Diagram looks like** c] a_c = V^2 / R = (14^2) / 23 = 8.52 m/s^2 d] N = mg + m*a_c N = 1837*9.81 + 1837*8.52 N = 33,672.21 N |

Does curfew apply to minors who are in a car with an 18 year old driver? Question: So I just turned 18 and all my friends are younger than me. I was wondering if a normal curfew would apply to them when they are in a car that I am driving. Also I live in Illinois if that is relevant. Answer: It is relevant only 'cause I know Illinois law for sure. The person above 18 has to be a "responsible adult, parent or legal guardian". Sorry an 18-year-old with younger friends is not considered a responsible adult. Same is true for a 21-year-old or any adult not acting like an adult. |

car accident - had insurance but police officer already wrote a ticket and now I need to go to court!!!!!!!? Question: Hi everybody. I got into a car accident on friday. I was driving, made a left turn when a guy came up from behind, tried to pass me on the turn lane and smacked my car. My car was damaged, his was not. I was driving a rental car, while he was driving a company car. First thing is that I was issued a citation for not having insurance. I initially pulled out my normal car insurance which is not good for rental cars. I later found the car rental insurance in the glove compartment but the Cop has already issued me a ticket for no insurance and she's like "sorry too late" and gave me the ticket anyways. She then proceeded to seize my drivers license and hold it for bail money. And now I have to go to court. Has anyone had any experience dealing with this? If I am charged court costs I would like to go after the police officer for not following proper procedure for issuing a ticket. If she would have asked for the vehicles registration (you know to make sure I wasn't stealing it) it would have been established that it was a rental car. Instead I get to go to court. What should I do at court? Also what is the penalty for a minor traffic accident in Illinois? Finally I just returned from a 4 month job in the united Arab emirates, do you think that can get me any sympathy? I returned 5 days earlier. thanks everyone! Answer: all you have to do is show the judge proof of insurance and explain (RESPECTFULLY) it was a misunderstanding. that should be the end of it. forget going after the police officer, she was doing her job. |
