Convert 3 car garage into 2 car?

We have an old 3 car garage that we want to convert into 2. We only have two cars and we'd been parking in front of the garage but we got a ticket the other day and we have to start parking inside cuz the cars were parked a little on the alley. There are 3 single doors and it is a pain in the a** trying to park the cars because it is so narrow!!! You're guaranteed to hit your car trying to park, otherwise we would be using the garage. So we want to remove the doors and the beams (?) and just put one big beam in the middle to make it two car. We're not looking to putting in doors becuz we plan on tearing it down in the future, when we have the money to do so. Do we need to put a header of some sort? And do we have to get a permit?
