Unemployment appeal, what should I do?
Question:
In October 2010 I quit, the reason I gave my employers was I couldn't commute to Lombard from where I live (No Car), that it would take me 2 1/2 hours to get there 2 1/2 hours to get back home each day. My company moved from Chicago to Lombard and gave a definitive date a week and a half before we moved, I was commuting to work. I also told them I had a new job, which I thought I did, turns out that job screwed me. So I applied for unemployment benefits knowing that there was a slim chance of getting it. I went through the interview session telling the unemployment office exactly what I told my former company. The final ruling was made 11/8/10, stating that due to unnatural commuting patterns, the company is attributable to this, and I am not ineligible for unemployment benefits. So since then I have been receiving unemployment every other week. So I get a letter in the mail yesterday stating that and appeal has been filed on 12/28/10 and I have a hearing 1/18/10. My questions are: Isn't there a time frame for the company to file and appeal? Cause it says on the back 30 days. Should I get a lawyer? If I lose, do I have to pay back the money? If I have to pay the money back, why should I be responsible for it when the state of Illinois claimed that I was eligible for benefits?
