The first five Comps in the area are $163K, $170K, $137K, $160K, and $139K. 4 out of 5 of these homes sold in 2006. In todays market what should I start my bid with on this home? I don't want to pay the asking price if I can avoid it and don't want to embarass myself with the offer. Please help! The asking price is $161,000

It depends on what else you are asking for. You don't mention any contingencies you are going to write in the contract. You also don't mention how long it has been on the market. If it is going to be a clean offer without asking the seller for monetary concessions, you can offer about $10,000 off the price to start the negotiation. Good luck!

My mother wants me to go to Purdue University and whatnot... I got accepted and I would not have a problem going if they allowed me to have a car. Purdue University is 2 hrs away from home and I do not want to be stuck out there with no way home. Now I understand that I can make friends and whatnot to get to take me home, but lord knows how long it would take for me to meet or even build a relationship with them to do something like that for me. Instead, i would rather go to another Purdue Campus (Calumet) where it is 15 away from my home and close to the city (Chicago) where all my family and friends live, plus i can have a car. My mother disagrees with me, but I am not really sure what her arguement is... she just keeps saying,"NO! GO TO WEST LAFAYETTE! THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING OUT THERE!" That was before she knew she could only get $25 back out of the $175 she sent to them (West Lafayette). Then she got even more mad. What should I do? Satisfy mom or satisfy myself?
