Is THIS what you call doing your part to help pay taxes? Liberal parks his Yacht across river to avoid taxes?
Question:
If this wasn't so sad, it'd be very funny...he didn't know he should get temporary tags? Or park in the locality where he lives? Does anyone believe this BS? excerpt... MIssouri Rep. Russ Carnahan keeps his 42 foot 1968 Chris Craft Commander docked in Illinois. Lib Missouri Representative Russ Carnahan not only owns an unregistered 42′ yacht. …But he parks it across the river in Illinois so he doesn’t have to pay taxes. Republican Ed Martin released this just in time for Tax Day. As Americans prepare to file and pay their taxes, it’s come to light that Rep. Russ Carnahan may be skimping on his. The Congressman avoids paying personal property taxes on his 42-foot yacht by docking it in Alton, Illinois instead of his hometown. “Illinois does not have a statewide property tax. Property is taxed on the local level only, and includes only real property such as land, buildings or permanent facilities.” (St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association; Taxes and Incentives) Ironically just a few hours ago, Rep. Carnahan gave the following quote on tax cuts to the Associated Press.”From investing in small business to buying a home or making it energy efficient, to sending your children to college to buying a car, these tax cuts are helping families and businesses across the country,” said Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-Mo.” (AP Stephen Ohlemacher April 14, 2010) So how does the tax cut on his yacht, Congressman Carnahan took for himself, help families and businesses across the country? Like so many Washington insiders Carnahan doesn’t think the rules apply to him. Carnahan’s boat, “Attractive Nuisance,” is also without current registration. As of Monday April 12, 2010 the U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Information Exchange shows the boat’s registration expired September 30, 2008. One would think he’d learned his lesson back in 2004. “Missouri Water Patrol cited him on June 20 (2004) for driving an unregistered boat. Carnahan received the citation while operating his 42-foot cruiser on the Mississippi River…Carnahan said Friday that he had paid the fine this week. Carnahan said the boat is a 1960s-era vessel that he bought a year ago and is renovating. He has yet to register it with the state Department of Revenue, he said, because the Coast Guard is still processing title documents. After the Post-Dispatch inquired, Carnahan said he found out Friday that he could get temporary state registration.” (St. Louis Post-Dispatch August 14, 2004) So let’s get this straight Rep. Carnahan owned the boat for a year but never registered it. His excuse was he claimed he was unaware he could pay to get a temporary state registration. It sounds like Carnahan knows as much about boats as he does Pelosi’s healthcare bill. Funny, he knew nothing about registering his boat but knew exactly where he should dock it to avoid taxes. http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/2010/04/figures-lib- rep-russ-carnahan-parks-unregistered-yacht-on-illinois-side-of-ri ver-to-escape-paying-missouri-taxes/

Answer:
As any good judge will tell you ... " Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. " Amazing that a guy that can own that and represent the " working man " really has no idea about the most basic of things. I'm sure at the marina he must have seen the state tags and KNOWN WTF they were for. He just choose to circumvent the law.

Illinois/St. Louis Vultures? Carnivorous birds?
Question:
I live in Alton, IL which is about ten miles from St. Louis, MO. We are in the southern half of the state, on the Mississippi River. We have hawks, bald eagles, cranes, and a whole shlew of other interesting birds, mostly down by the river. Today, I was driving on one of our major streets, and noticed (about twenty feet off the road) two giant birds picking at a dead deer on the edge of a cemetart. (It was so amazingly creepy.) I've never seen birds like these in my life. They were huge (at least two feel long) and black with carnivorous down-turned beaks and red faces to just beyond their eyes. I parked the car and walked up to get a picture, but I couldn't get close enough without them flying away. Do we have vultures here? I've never heard of them in this area, but that is what these looked like. I can't find a good picture of anything similar to them, or a site about IL birds that has pictures. Any info or sites that you might know would be helpful.

Answer:
From your description, they sound like turkey vultures. They have red colored, featherless heads and a curved beak for eating carrion. We have them in WI where I live, I believe IL probably has them as well. Check out the pictures on this site for a comparison. www.maxwaugh.com/zoo06/vulture1.html

Answer:
It looks good, but I suggest a slight rearrangement: Education Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), Edwardsville, IL Major: Mechanical Engineering Minor: Math Degree: Bachelor of Science, Expected: May 2013 And move Relevant Course Work up; locate it between Education and and Academic Accomplishments.
