What are things to do in and around BYU-Idaho and Rexburg Idaho? Question: I'm a student at BYU-Idaho and I'm looking for things to do in and around it! I have friends with cars, so if we need to drive to go somewhere fun, that's fine too. I've been here a week and I feel like I've already exhausted all possibilities haha help please!
Answer:
Me too. Check your e-mail. usually the student updates fill you in on upcoming activities. So that can be helpful. I think when we get our FHE groups all lined out and everything, you'll find many more fun things to do with them.
Since I'm from here though, I can give you a few tips.
Go to the St. Anthony Sand bar and go swimming before it gets too cold. (And it will get very cold very fast.)
Go to Barnes and noble in Idaho Falls and get vanilla bean frappuccinos (not coffee ha), and chill there, read some books.
Do baptisms for the dead.
Bike down west from from the temple (pass the stake center) and turn left after the newlywed apartments onto that one road that leads to the South Rexburg Exit.. Don't bike clear to the exit of course, but that road is fun to bike. There's not much traffic and it's a newer road.
On Sunday nights, go stadium singing, bring a hymnbook and meet under the stadium at 9:30 pm. There's loads of people.
Beaver Dick Park is fun. It's west of rexburg, past Burton.
Have a picnic/party/s'mores roasting night at the sand dunes. If you head straight north out of rexburg (like on the walmart road) and keep going, you'll pass Salem and Parker, and you'll eventually see the sand dunes. They're pretty fun.
With your friends, line out a few blind dates, That's always fun.
Have lunch in the gardens
make cupcakes, deliver them to neighbors, or boys.
Watch movies at the paramount and Holiday. It's cheap there! and probably within walking distance.
Make homemade icecream
rent movies
go up to Heise hot springs and do the cress creek nature trail hike.
Join the gym sessions, like Yoga and aerobics for free. They're fun.
Swim at Heise hot springs.
Do you ski or snowboard? Kelly Canyon will be opening in not too long.
take advantage of the gym at your complex.
Porter Park is always FULL of college kids. Playing frisbee, having picnics, etc.
Eat at Bambinos in rigby. It's right off the North Rigby exit. And it is delish.
Go bridge jumping. I recommend twin bridges (not the one in Archer, the one in... Teton?. I'm not for sure the town, but its Northeast of Rexburg. Ask someone local, they'll know). It's a good one. I do not recommend Monkey Rock however.
Go spelunking at the civil defense caves. (kind of by the sand dunes) and buy some glow sticks.. as many as you can. wear WARM clothes and good shoes (bring a first aid kit, and water), and hike in about 4 big caves worth (it gets really cold!), you'll eventually get to this cave that's the size of a football field. It will be completely black. So cut open all your glow sticks, (be careful about the ones with glass in them) and throw them all over yourselves and the cave. It will look like space in there. Then play hide and seek. Or sardines. It is SOO much fun. I've done this so many times, And it never gets boring.
Go get Jambas at Jamba juice. It's a pretty good hangout. So is hogi Yogi... but watch out with Hogi yogi, sometimes there's strange people hanging out there...
Go to the local high school football games with a group of friends. They're fun.
Okay. that's all I can think of. Maybe if you don't have a job, be looking around for one. But I'm sure when the full force of studies this semester kicks in, you won't feel quite so bored.
Good luck. Have fun. Hope this helped. If you have any other questions, you can ask me. I'll be happy to help you.
