how do you get to the north georgia premium outlet mall and six flags white water atlanta from duluth, GA? Question: im trying to get to the outlet mall and six flags white water from my hotel in duluth ga but i cant rent a car and im not familar with the train system or bus routes. dont suggest taxi because that can get pretty high.thanks Answer: You are way out in the suburbs. Miles away from both of these destinations. The premium outlet mall is in Dawsonville 30 miles away. White Water is in Marietta 28 miles away. These aren't short trips. Even if you were familiar with the public transportation system, no bus or train is going to service those trips and a taxi would cost a small fortune. Your only option if you don't drive, find someone to take you. |

Does anyone know where you can get a Georgia auto emissions test for $10? Question: I need to get my emissions done ASAP to re-register my car in Georgia. I need a place that charges the minimum ($10) for emissions tests, either near Midtown Atlanta (where I work) or the Norcross/Duluth area (where I live). They have to take plastic, too! Answer: There's a gas station on Ponce de Leon and Briarcliff/ Moreland Rd. I don't know about the plastic. |

How do I change my middle name on my birth certificate by one letter? Question: Basically, my mother at the time couldn't speak English very well and was assisted by a nurse when it came to my name on the birth certificate. My middle name is "Sun" on the birth certificate because the nurse thought my mother got the name wrong. It's supposed to be "Son" because that is my mother's first name. Because of that, my name on my driver license has to be "Sun" as well. I have "Son" on other documents I use for regular use. Even when I check my credit, it acknowledges that I'm "Son." It hurts me that I can't use my mother's real first name as my middle because the nurse thought my mother didn't know english well enough. I currently live in Duluth, Georgia and was born in Fort Polk, Lousiana. I'm moving to a new location in a month in Tucker, Georgia and I just got the title to my car and am waiting sign it. I want to see if I can have all of this settled before I put "Sun" on anymore documents. Any suggestions? My Social security card says "Son" though. I wanted to be able to change my middle name on my driver license but they wouldn't allow it. Does having the SS name being correct help? Answer: The state in which you were born has the official record and your Mother can file a correction. My Mother's first name was wrong on mine, and she filed a correction at the county court house - but I just got a new copy of my Birth certificate with the state of Ohio - and it is still wrong 20 years after the correction was filed. Good luck. |

Car Loan With Bad Credit? Question: I live in Duluth Georgia. I have bad credit and just started my job 2 weeks ago. i make a little less that 1500 a month. I am also a full time student. Is there any way I can get approved for a car loan?? I don't need much but I need a vehicle ASAP... Any help would be appreciated. Answer: You will probably be denied if you try to go with Prime Lenders, your only chance might be a fiance company, however the interest rates are really high, probably between 20-30%. You can find a local car lot there that does their own financing, they normally advertise "WE FIANCE", the rates will be higher, however this might be the only optio you have. You could try to get rides with family and friends, save your money up, and just go and buy a good used car, just get something for now that allows you to get around, and runs good, don't worry about looks. |

Help with speeding ticket in GEORGIA (Gwinnett County)? Question: ok... so i just recieved my first speeding ticket this afternoon.. I am 16 years old, and have had my lisence for over 6 months. i had 2 passengers in the car. We were coming back from a football tournament an hour away...no music or anything The ticket says i was going 73 in a 55 MPH zone, but i know that cant be right. YES, i was speeding, i can admit that...but my car was on cruise control at 60....so i think (going downhill) i was goin about 65 TOPS. On the ticket, there is NO court date...and the officer changed the actual court location on it. to the juvinile court.. I was clocked by the infamous Duluth PD from over 100 feet away... I was in the left lane of a four lane road (2 lanes goin each way) and he was on the far right in a like driveway...there was a car to my right as well inbetween us. my questions are: 1. should i fight this? 2. what would the fees be if not? 3. anything significant about there not being a court date? 4. clock error w/ other cars? oh yeah....i forgot to mention that the officer said he "got his laser calibrated yesterday and he and picked it up this morning" how accurate do u think that statement is... or is it jst coincidental that today is the day i get my ticket, and he gets his newly calibrated laser and the fees and court date were NOT on the ticket anywhere. Answer: No. You have no proof of your actual speed. By your own words you were speeding. Fees? It is usually on the back of the ticket, something like $100 minimum with $10 for every MPH over 5 MPH over speed limit. No. It doesn't matter. Maybe, but refer to first answer. EDIT: Call the court house number listed (that should be there), and ask them what needs to be done. |

Originally from MA, I moved to TX for 5 months, then moved to GA for 6 months. Which state am I a resident of? Question: Here's a brain teaser for all of you tax experts out there. I was a Massachusetts resident until recently when I moved to Texas to work for a Texas employer. I obtained a Texas drivers' license and Texas plates for my car, however I was fired from my job after two months. I continued living in Texas for three more months after that, then went to live with friends in Duluth, Georgia where I still am now. During my entire time in Texas, I lived in motels and extended-stay apartments, never having a permanent address. I was reluctant to sign any leases or buy any property until I was past the probationary period of my job (which in the end, turned out to be the correct thing to do). The address on my drivers' license and vehicle registration was the hotel where I was staying (my Texas-based employer had warned me not to waste time in changing my license and plates). I am now self-employed (work from home) and living in Georgia with friends (I pay my rent in cash). I have never worked for a Georgia employer. FOR TAX PURPOSES, can I claim Texas residency? (I intend to go back to TX in a couple of weeks because there are no jobs here in GA). I do NOT want to go back to Massachusetts because the taxes are higher and you get heavy fines for not carrying health insurance (which I don't have right now, and can't afford to...although the wonderful Massachusetts state legislators--in their infinite wisdom--believe that anyone earning over $20K a year can afford to pay $300 monthly premiums). Hey morningfox: thanks for your answer. See, I told you it was a brain-teaser, lol. ;-) Yeah I would think my Massachusetts residency ended when I left there (I mean I had certainly PLANNED it as a permanent move to TX at least, and I was fired for performance reasons not related to misconduct...so it's not my fault I had to leave the state after I lost my job)...and I actually stayed on in TX as long as I could afford it, but I came to Georgia because it was the closest state where I knew anybody to move in with, without having to go back to Massachusetts At this point I would be happy being a resident of any state EXCEPT Massachusetts because that law that they have (forcing people to sell their souls to the devil to buy health insurance) is just awful and it's one of many reasons why I would never go back there. Answer: You might not like the legal answer, but here it is: You can be a resident of a state without living in it, and you can live in a state and not be a resident. As an example, if you are in the military, you can choose your state of residency. When you get out of the military in a state where you have been stationed, you may have a hard time proving you're a resident. Residency is proven by, most of all, paying state income tax; after that, owning property, having a driver's license from the state, having your vehicle registered there, having registered to vote and voted there. Anything that shows you intend to have your residency in the state will count. But there is not a hard and fast rule, and it has little to do with where you actually live. My husband and I lived in California for over 3 years while he was in the military, and planned to stay there after he was discharged. I applied to UC Davis Law School as a California resident, and they agreed I had residency because: we had voluntarily paid state income tax for 3 years (as military, we did not have to), we both had California driver's licenses, our car was registered in California, and my husband had become licensed to practice law in California. The bottom line is you can choose the state where you want to be a resident, but you have to put your taxes and other choices in the same place, otherwise you might not win out on the issue. I think you have a very good argument that you are a resident of Texas, and you can use the ideas I gave you to become a resident of Georgia. If you make an effort to become a resident of the state where you actually live, it is usually not that hard, unless you pay no income taxes, don't have any property (not even a car), and don't vote. But if you're that poor, why would Massachusetts care that you don't want to be a resident there any more? I hope that helps you. |
