Questions Related to winter, haven cars

Is Winter Haven Dodge/Jeep the crookedest Car dealer in Florida?
Question:
I have heard so many terrible things about this place after I got ripped off there myself - I would never go there for any reason! Try somewhere else - anywhere but Winter Haven Dodge/Jeep. I heard Sorenson Jeep on 27 is really good - good prices and good people.

Answer:
As far as I know, which I don't, Yes

Are the new VW Beetles a good winter car?
Question:
I'm in the market for a new car. I'm wondering if VW Beetles are good cars for winter. I live in Colorado and we have a fairly harsh winter. I haven't heard anything bad about them as far as the winter goes, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Thanks!

Answer:
Well they are front wheel drive, and most newer models also have a built in optional 4 wheel drive...which is amaaaazing in snowy weather. They aren't very "heavy" cars, which is good to have in winter weather, but the 4 wheel drive could make up for that. Also, throwing some sandbags in the back will keep it from spinning out on ice.

How many miles/hours to travel from Winter Haven, FL to Dothan, AL?
Question:
Also looking for nothern FL beach sites and things to do to relax on 12 day trip staying in Dothan, yet willing to travel to FL as long as it is not that far. Tampa and Clearwater are too far, as I am handicapped and cannot ride in the car that long. I'd prefer warm beach sand, spa treatments and quiet, yet trendy places. Any help out there? We live in Michigan and I cannot stand the weather, but are visiting our daughter and three grandchildren. My daughter and I want to escape 2-3 days to relax and leave kids with grandpa and dad....arriving AL December 21 and leaving Jan 2.

How do I make sure my citroen AX is fit for winter?
Question:
Hi guys, I've got a little citroen AX and I haven't been driving that long so I know quite little about my car unfortunately. How do I check that all the water and anti freeze etc is at a good level so that my car gets through the winter? Would it tell me in one of those manuals? Any advice would be great! Thanks

Answer:
Well you'd better change the whole cooling liquid before the winter and put new, fresh antifreeze. This should be done by a mechanic to avoid air in the system. Also buy anti-freeze windshield cleaner from any good supermarket and fill your windshield washing system. Make sure your Tyre's are OK for the winter. These are the basics. If you can, also check your battery to avoid dead starts in the cold.

Winter Driving: My car is frozen. How long should I plug it in for my battery to charge before I try start it?
Question:
My car presumably froze in this -20 C. weather. I don't want to restart it right now because I haven't been able to plug it in yet, and if I do try start it, it would just kill the battery and I would need a boost, which I don't want to get. So if I plug it in now, how long should I let the battery charge before I try start it?

Answer:
Depends on your charger, some have the abilty to start your car, same as jumping it, other are more powerfull and may charge it in minutes depending on how dead it is, some may take hours as in the case of a trikle charger. Normal cheap end charger I would wait at least an hour to try.

Is my car going to do okay in the winter?
Question:
I drive a '91 Nissan Stanza, manual transmission, and we've never really driven it in the winter since it's been sort of a back up car, but since I turned 17, I finally am granted the privilege of having my own! The problem is, winter is coming up in Colorado, and I'm afraid it won't be able to make it...there's a steep hill right at my school in the mornings, and sometimes it may ice up...and driving a manual in that situation sucks..am I going to be okay? Also, my second question is, every summer, I go up to the mountains, and there is a dirt road that's considerably steep and bumpy for about 3-4 miles, and I was wondering if this car could make it? I haven't souped it up at all..it's pretty much just in good condition thx all

Answer:
Colorado get yourself some snow tires with studs. i personally recommend the Hercules polar trax one of the best snow tires i ever had. as for driving a manual transmission i don't suggest shifting in the middle of the icy snowy hill try to have it in a low enough gear that you won't have to shift but not so low that you won't be able to keep your speed up. i suggest second gear and whatever you do do not let up on the gas keep a steady speed. before you hit the bottom of the hill shift into second and give it the gas to keep your speed up or you will never make it to the top of the hill. as for the bumpy hilly dirt road which i assuming is also very rocky i would not take that car up it as they have a very low ground clearance and you could tear something off like your exhaust system or put a hole in the oil pan or the transmission. imagine having to explain that to your parents and how much the tow bill will be here is a list of Hercules tire dealers in Colorado and the 800 number for Hercules : Franken Oil 505-425-7578 Discount Tire & Service 970-356-7440 Mile Hi Tire Denver 303-765-2100 Hercules 800-677-9535

If I don't wax my car before winter hits hard, how much will my clearcoat be effected? (3 months old)?
Question:
New car, 3 months old. We get pretty heavy snow here. I haven't waxed it. Will I mess up the clearcoat?

Answer:
The salt and calcium can eat threw clearcoat, so it depends on how much you get on your car.

How can I convince my 'rents to let me do Cross Country skiing this winter?
Question:
I want to do cross country skiing this winter but my parents won't let me and i even have answers to all their problems! For example they can't drive me to practice: I car carpool with my friends! It costs a lot of money: I have enough to pay for it all! My grades will slip: They haven't yet and I've been playing tennis this fall! I really want to do this! help!

Answer:
Tell them that it is graet for your fitness and a heck of a lot cheaper than riding lifts.

FACT OR FICTION: Is it bad to let the gas tank in your car go below halfway during the winter?
Question:
I've heard this from several people but they really haven't told me why.

Answer:
Its fact, the fuel system is not as sealed as you might hope it is. While not as big a problem as it used to be on older cars water and debris get into your fuel system. A filter takes care of the debris but nothing takes care of the water, most of it gets burnt through the engine harmlessly. A small amount mixed in with the fuel though will freeze the gas in the lines to the engine on a cold day. Every person out there would be doing themselves a preventive maintenance favor by going to your local auto parts store and buying a product called Heet (not misspelled). It is mostly methyl alcohol and it serves two purposes, keeping the gas from freezing and helping to carry water out of the system to the engine where it is once again burned harmlessly.

Driving my BMW in a winter storm with no snow tires???
Question:
I recently purchased a 97 BMW and haven't yet bought snow tires. I'm at work now and a pretty decent winter storm is supposed to be hitting in the next few hours. My commute also involves driving over a large bridge. I'm thinking im just about screwed. Has anyone driven in similar conditions without winterizing a rear-wheel drive car??

Answer:
If your car still has the original equipment size wheels and tires, it is quite probable that it already has all-weather tires that are rated for mud & snow mounted on it. If the tires have adequate tread depth left on them, they should be good enough for a gentle drive home in winter driving conditions. Just remember that NO tire is going to give you dry-pavement handling capabilities while you are driving on snow or ice. Slow down and think about what you're doing while driving on potentially slippery surfaces.
