What is the percent charged for sales tax on a new car in Sarasota County, Florida?

Answer:
In Florida the state sales tax is 6% and in Sarasota county your county discretionary sales surtax is 1%. Your county discretionary sales surtax is only charged on the first $5000 of a purchase so if your car cost $20,000 you would be 6% on the entire $20,000 (or $1200) PLUS 1% on the first $5000 (or $50). You can check the Florida Department of Revenue website for the DR-15DSS which is published every year to let you know what this discretionary surcharge is in each Florida county and when the surcharge expires (the surcharges are voted on by county residents for special project funding and expire periodically).

19 and renting a car in sarasota or tampa florida?
Question:
I know most rules require u to be 25 or at least 21... but ive heard there r some car rental places that do rent to some younger ages but may charge a daily fee to those drivers.. which is fine by me.. i could care less if it is 25 bucks more a day.. i just need a rental car when i go down there next month for a week.. Thanks

Answer:
Budget, Dollar, Enterprise and Thrifty rent to drivers over 21, but penalize underage drivers with a daily surcharge. Some even restrict the type of vehicle, making a luxury model or sport utility vehicle off-limits. If you're under 21, your chances of renting from the big companies are just about nil unless you're a military or government employee. Because of the high accident rate associated with drivers under 25 (and the severity of those incidents), "car-rental companies don't think it's worth the risk to rent to this age group. Mom-and-pop car-rental shops that are not affiliated with national chains may also be more accommodating and may rent to drivers as young as 18. Customer-service representatives at a national firm's toll-free number should be able to tell you which franchises have lower age minimums, and a good travel agent can track down small private companies. Also try rental companies in a college town near your destination. Rent-a-Wreck, for instance, serves many college communities and rents used cars (typically about two years old) to drivers 21 and older. Rates run 10% to 50% less than you'd pay at other rental companies, and underage surcharges range between $5 and $10 per day.

How do I get to Disney World from Sarasota, Florida?
Question:
I want to know all of my options besides greyhound and amtrak, and I don't have a car...

Answer:
I recommend searching for either a taxi, courier or private transport. There are services who will come to your door, pick up you and your group and luggage, and take you directly to where you need to go. Otherwise, you will be chasing a ride to the amtrak or greyhound as well. Sometimes the most direct route is the simplest. From your door to Disney. Being without a vehicle, this kind of a solution seems to be a slam dunk. You and your luggage, one stop. An accident left our family in a similar situation on our way to Disney last year. We had no other option but to search for a door to door service. At first it may seem costly, but chasing endless connections to save money rarely saves the money you spend in time and inconvenience.

Sarasota County, Florida: Is it illegal of me to park my unregistered/uninsured car in the condo parking lot?
Question:
The condo property manager where I live had my car towed from the parking lot because the tag was expired. It cost me $200 to get it out of impound. I read the entire condo lease and rules, but parking a car with an expired tag was not addressed in any way what-so-ever. Was it illegal of me to park my car there? Does the property manager really have the authority to legally tow my car if the tag is expired?

Answer:
The parking lot is considered private property and it is at the condo complexes discretion to have the vehicle towed. Next time use a car cover to conceal the fact that the car has an expired tag. If they lift the cover it would be considered trespassing.

Does anyone in Sarasota Florida have a 500-800.00 car 4 sale?

I need a car to travel 20 miles a day. It can be anything but but no repair that would cost much. Even a 90 s-10 or ranger.

The best way to find out is to go onto craigslist.com people post a picture of their car and the price they want for it and you can usually talk them down. All you do is go on the website and click your state and city and it will list everyone trying to sell their car in Sarasota Florida.

I live in Sarasota Florida. What are the laws as to what I can have in the trunk of my car? ?
Question:
I live in Sarasota Florida and I would like to know the laws, things that I cannot have in the trunk of my car. Purpose is an irrelevant prospect, I just want to know what's illegal and legal to own in my trunk. Some of the things include: Various electronic devices, Iron and steel tools some power tools some kinds of weapons (Not firearms.) among other things. And along with those, are there certain places where I am not allowed to drive my car if I have some of those things in my trunk? Please, answer this question seriously. I'll report you if you act like an idiot.

Answer:
And you could just as easily be reported for insulting others in violation of the community guidelines. You know, the whole thing about respect? You can have whatever you'd like in your trunk, and are protected against unreasonable search and seizure. If you give law enforcement permission to look, and they find something suspicious, you'd need a good reasonable reason for having it there. Some things would be considered burglary tools and should not be carried. Explosives would also be a bad idea. Even some compressed gasses in unsecured cylinders could be considered dangerous. So the answer is, it varies, and not know what various things you plan to carry, or your reasoning behind having them, it's impossible to give you a comprehensive answer. Edit: I realized I hadn't answered the last part. I would not go onto any military bases where you are subject to search, or across the line into Canada or Mexico with anything suspicious in your trunk. So yes, there are places where it would be illegal to drive with certain things in your trunk.

Anyone have any tips on cheap car rental in Tampa/Sarasota, Florida?
Question:
I can't find anything cheaper than $525.00 using my own insurance. I'll be there approximately Apr. 7-13, '09. Thanks Thank you for all of your very helpful answers. It looks like the best strategy & prices are through rental locations that are close by the airport. Even with the cost of a cab, to & from the airport, I'll still be saving $100-150 from the in-airport car rental offices. The same can be said for many In-Airport rental locations, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Chicago. etc. Thanks again.

Answer:
take a look at areas near the airports.. they usually have good rentals, fort myers has cheep rentals too.

Siesta key area sarasota florida...best beach shops stores need car?
Question:
Planning on going to siesta key next month. wondering... will i need a rental car? how far is the airport? taxi's cheap? Should i stay in the crescent beach area or siesta key village area? and if i stayed at one or the other would it all be in walking distance anyways??? i would like to be around stores, restaurants activities etc. Basically any information would be geat !!! is there a bus that runs up and down the island?

Answer:
You'll love it! Closest place on the mainland, that I could even come close to comparing to Hawaii! Has that "hang loose" personality and beautiful waters and sand (just watch out for the red tide, I think they get it more during the stormy season. I have seen it twice on trips in July). Still a great place. If you are over 21 and enjoy a great beach this is the perfect place for you. Personally, I always stay in the village (only partially because my friend has a house down there now). Crescent Beach is pretty (nowhere near the village), but if you want to be close to the action of restaurants, shops, grocery, public beach (although, I generally landed north of the public for a little more peace and quiet for laying in the sun, had enough public going out in the afternoons and evenings. Lots of entertainment, live bands at the local restaurants/bars, ice cream shop, nice little shops, street car to other parts of Siesta (another area of restaurants, shops, etc). I have stayed at the hotel in the village (used to be Best Western, not sure if it is still a Best Western though), it is literally in the Village with the restaurants, shops and some of the associated noise. Was decent enough hotel (not fancy at all), believe a lot of the rooms have kitchenettes. and sitting area separate from the bedroom. I also stayed at the Tropical Breeze Resort/Inn, which is in fact not a resort (not any I've stayed at anyways) but quite nice. They have multiple unit apartment areas that they rent out around the village area. I loved where mine was, not right in the village but within walking distance of the Village fun (maybe 6+blocks away from the hotel at the end of the village). Keep your cab when you check in, the office where you check in is not the same place that you will be staying and obviously you do not want to lug your baggage to your room/unit. I was very happy with my room there, King size bed, kitchen/living area, right next to the pool and laundry (but not busy) and found it to be very clean (and I showed up early and dropped my luggage off in my room, went to the beach across the street and they got my room ready while I was soaking up the sun)! Go to the local grocery store towards the north end of the village and get some fresh fruit and cool snacks to keep in the fridge. On getting a car, depends on length of your stay, whether you plan on going over to Sarasota for any entertainment. I had not rented a car the 1st time I went and just used a cab to / from the airport (20 minutes, 30+ bucks (including tip) not cheap, but less than a rental for the week). Shouldn't need a car for the most part (I go more places now, but my friend who lives there has a car), you can always rent one if you should decide to explore more than the village and streetcar provide. Wow that was long, guess I really love Siesta Key!Enjoy!
