How far from the road can I put a car port in Newton, North Carolina?
Question:
The road isn't state maintained. We were told 30 feet by a friend, not a reliable resource. But the way our house is, if that is true, 10 feet from the property line and 30 feet from the road, that means I only have that middle 20 feeet to play with.

Answer:
It would be best to either call or email the city manager so that you will get the correct information..... Thanks!! ******************** I hate to fly, and I don't want to drive all the way to Miami (besides I just went there in July & last week). That's why I specified North of Ft. Lauderdale.

How to go from Raleigh-Durham airport in North Carolina to Greenville East Caroline rather than renting a car?
Question:
I will take part a conference in East Carolina University from Turkey Istanbul. They say I must rent a car to East Carolina, which is 100 milles away to the air port. Yet I want to know my other options rather than renting a car, like taking a bus or train. What would you advice me on this issue?

Answer:
Renting car would be easiest. There is no train to Greenville, North Carolina. So, from the Raleigh/Durham Airport, you'd have to take a Triangle Transit bus to downtown Raleigh. then from there, you could pick up a Greyhound Bus to Greenville.

How do I ship a car from Canada to America?
Question:
I am interesting in buying a used car from Korea and they only port in North America is in New Westminster,Canada. If I have the car transported to Florida, do I need to fax my passport info to the truckers???

Answer:
Your question starts out with a false premise. Korea ships to at least three large ports on the Pacific- Los Angeles, Oakland and Seattle. Canada is not the only receiving port from Korea. I wouldn't try what you're trying to do. A Korean-spec car may not meet US specs. All cars have to pas DoT and EPA standards. There are a few companies who can do that before you get Customs and Border Protection release, but the cost is prohibitive. The costs of shipping across the Pacific may be $3000; add a similar amount for railing the container to Florida; add a bunch of other costs you won't expect, like fees to load the car into a container, load the container onto a ship, unload the container, transload the car into a second container, loading that container onto a train, unloading the container from the train, devanning the car from the container. And then you have the expenses associated with making the car conform to US and Florida specs. You'll need to hire a good, reputable broker to handle all the arrangements. This isn't rocket science, but it takes a lot of experience to get everything done. The broker will do what you want done. And even with a good broker, things happen that he can't control. These things will cost you money. And let's not forget duty- you'll be paying Customs duty for your car. Shipping, tons of fees, broker costs, and duty. Wouldn't you just be happier buying a car that's already in Florida? If you can't be moved, look in your phone book for "customs broker." Call several to get an idea of what costs you're looking at. And you do NOT have to ship to Canada. ... Take care!

I'm in the path of Tropical Storm Hanna. How can I protect my home from flood?
Question:
I'm more worried about possible flood/wind damage than anything else. We live in North Carolina and by the time it gets here it will probably be downgraded back to a tropical storm. Our yard doesn't drain well and water frequently pools near our front porch (slab, level with the yard). Also, my hubby just bought a motorcycle, and we have our vehicle under a car port. How can we protect those?

Answer:
Bring the motorcycle in the house, if you can get it through a door! Maybe take it to a neighbor who has a garage or a sliding glass door? As for your house, start sandbagging the perimeter so the water won't come in. Good Luck...I'm in Melbourne, FL and just finished dealing with Fay so we're watching all the storms carefully as they keep changing the paths daily!! Good luck and be safe!!

Ghost road port perry. How to see the light?
Question:
My friends and I want to experience the light on ghost road in port perry. They have been there 4 times of of which I have been with them. The first time I was there with them we parked by the rock facing north it was around 3 am and we waited 45 min. Nothing happened. 2 of my friends did get out of the car though and stood by the rock. I think we flashed our lights It's was a Friday. Then the second time. We went at 1130 pm and faced south with some other random cars About half way down the road. We were there until almost 2 am. We saw nothing. We all stayed in the car too. Flashed our lights multiple times and still nothing. A lot of cars did come and go though We really want to see it. Are we doing anything wrong. Or is it just luck? Got some tips or tricks?

Answer:
You're not seeing the light because there isn't one to see. This is an old legend in the area, and while rooted in a true story, there isn't a ghost or a ghost light. Numerous paranormal investigators have checked this out, and as far as I know, all have concluded that people are seeing the lights of other cars - nothing paranormal. Here's one website that explains it. http://www.pararesearchers.org/index.php?/20080806558/Ghos ts-Hauntings/Ghost-Road-Port-Perry.html Sorry...

was anyone stopped by the police while travelling up north on july 1/06 weekend?
Question:
we were pulled in by the police in Port Perry and our truck and trailer taken off the road for potential safety hazards. Our license plates were taken right away without telling us we had till 5 pm that day to fix the problems. Families like us were left stranded in the compound with families with small childre and seniors and no way to get anywhere. Some people had there plates riped right off their cars with nuts and bolts flying everywhere. Meanwhile people that lived in the area were let go with time to fix their cars, no plates riped off. One truck had holes in it you could stick your head in and let go while ours had a couple of holes the size of a quarter and we were considered a potential safty hazard. How can they get away with this.Isn,t the law suppose to be equal to everyone not just who you know. We need to fight back .How can the police do this to people without any help to the poor families left stranded like this?

Answer:
Sorry to hear you were stranded . They've been doing the safety blitz every long weekend throughout the summers for the last few years in cottage country. They're usually looking for improperly hitched trailers, loose unsecured loads, lack of tail lights on trailers & the old Fred Flintstone floorboards. Also targeting unsafe speeds & enforcing seatbelt laws. Had a couple of guys fly past me up the 400 must have been doing over 160km per hour I waved to them a few clicks later. Complain to the McGuinty government it's thier push on the blitz. http://ogov.newswire.ca/ontario/GPOE/2006/05/18/c0110.htm l?lmatch=&lang=_e.html .Also Victoria Day weekend had alot of people pulled over too. http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20060522/opp _blitz_060522/20060522%3Fhub=TorontoHome

is it legal for the police to withhold information from the community?
Question:
ok I live in a relatively large but vacant community, North Port Florida. And I've been hearing rumors of home invasions but I can not find anything other than dispatch calls for them. Nothing in the newspapers nothing in the public records, nothing! I love where I live, it's quite the neighbors, the few I have are wonderful. But Im hearing about these terrifying home invasions, no gets hurt physically thank god, but I live alone with my four year old son for the most part, my husband in only home 1 week a month and I've had a gun fired right outside my house by an unknown person which I called the police about and they couldn't find anything, I've had other weird things happening as well. And I"m terrified!!!! I can barely sleep at night!!!! I have these secure locks on all our outside doors and I'm buying safety locks for my windows tomorrow but I don't think that is enough, I mean if they want in bad enough they will find a way in. And Ive changed my habits and I don't go anywhere unless I can b home before dark! I live n a "GOOD" neighborhood with a new elementary school at the end of my street. I don't get it! And like I said all i have heard are rumors no reports and all three of my neighbors have had their cars broken into but I haven't and I have three! Don't they have to post reports at least n the public records???? So the community knows??? I have a security system that I arm every night and I have a special locking system for my big garage door. Yeah the rumor is that they are targeting homes with children that they know have expensive electronics and weapons, they knock on the door the kids answers and they barge in with guns, strip the parents tie them and put everyone n a closet and clean out the house. From what Ive heard no one has been seriously hurt yet!!!! And the number of break ins is over 40 n two months!!! Like I said we have a lot ( I think the number last I saw was 192) empty homes n my area and supposedly they are not saying anything because they want people to move here. Plus we are having an influx of grow houses for pot and meth! I hate it, we have lived her for almost ten years and it is getting worse every year!!!!

Answer:
Have you tried looking at the crime map? Most police departments and sheriff offices put out the information on a quarterly basis. The information is available on the internet. Just cause it's not in the newspaper doesn't mean the information isn't out there.
