I grew up in Cocoa Beach and later Titusville (Fl.) and when I was in HS me and my buds (not sure who thought of it, I know it wasn't me) used to pile in a car and head out to the deserted beach road in Titusville (Merritt Island National Seashore) at night and when we'd see an armadillo in the road who was briefly stunned by our headlights we'd slam on the brakes and all pile out with baseball bats and give chase...the idea was to get a hit...which was rare but the swiftest of us did occasionally get a hit...all I remember was when you would hit one they would jump about 3 feet off the ground and when they landed they would be gone in a flash into the brush....needless to say this practice was typically done in conjunction with either beer or other mind altering substances...lol It was just typical teen boy antics...I turned out fine...a former U.S. Marine and now degreed Engineer Anyone who wasn't in the Corps, keep your comments about them to yourselves...you have no idea what you are talking about.

No, but I used to hunt punks. I would drive around at night and look for punks that were terrorizing animals. When I would find them I would run their cars into the ditch.

Anyone know of any orthopedics that take letter of protection LOP in my Area?

I Live in the merrit island area and I am look for an orthopedic that takes LOP either in Merritt Island Melbourne titusville or cocoa or rockledge. I am having a hard time doing so PLEASE help... I got into a horrible car accident in Port saint lucie and became homeless and had to move to merritt island because I was out of work for 3 months. First of all, you posted to the USA board. Second, are you willing to come paint my house? I won't pay you, unless I manage to sell my car in three years, and then I'll pay you half of what my car sells for. Um, probably you don't want to do that, seeing as how you have no idea if I'll even be AROUND in three years, or if my car will be worth ANYTHING at that time. That's what a letter of protection is - it's a "well, maybe I'll pay in a few years, maybe not, and you won't come after me if I don't" kinda thing. Who in the world would ever want to work under THOSE conditions? Certainly not you. But, thirdly, since you're unemployed, you have the time to call every single orthopedist within 100 miles of you, and ask them if they'll take that letter of protection. Odds are, they'll all say no, but hey, you've got 40 hours a week to call them all.

police had no warrent harrasment?

I was driving near my house (5 blocks away) (a couple months ago) when i seen my girlfriend walking. I pulled over and she got into my car and we went home. 30 or 40 minutes later, I started hearing loud banging on my front door (local small town cops). As i allways do, I dint answer the door as i never like visitors and i dint want to be involved. They dint know if anyone was in my house or not. I have a 6 foot high wooden privacy fence that surrounds my back yard with one side bordered with a deep water boat canal and the back yard gate is nailed shut. One of them broke open the gate and got into my back yard and came to a sliding glass door that my girlfriend and i were sitting near while inside the living room on a couch. I thought all the doors were locked. The cop managed to open the sliding glass door that had not been opened in 40 years and walked into my house. I asked the cop if she had a warrent. she dint answer but told me to lie on the floor and then the female cop walked over and unlocked the front door for the other cops to come in. They seperated my girlfriend (who iv known for 35 years) and I and took my girlfriend in the back room and tried to convince her for 40 minutes to accuse me of doing terrable things to her. Obviously, she she said hell no! during this time the cops made me lie on the floor with guns out untill they got tired of trying to make up a reason to be in my house. After they left, i called their surperviser and very seriously complained and reminded him of the forth amendment. I live on a relatively small island, (merritt island florida) and the cops here are serious "good ol boys". Yesterday, x-mas eve, I got pulled over by the cops in broad daylight 5 pm. they said its bacause i was driving at night with no headlights. they then proceded to threten to arrest me no less than 17 times for various reason fron asking why i was pulled over etc. I then pulled out my video camera and started filming and they said "i wasnt allowed to film anyhting and they were definately gonna arrest me now". eventually, after many threats, they let me go but siad they were gonna get me for reporting to ther supervison about coming in my house without a warrent. I am afraid to leave my house now without a discuise. what couse should i take and what can i do. i am really afraid. my girlfriend also had a nervous breakdown after getting pulled over last night....we are normally quiet law abiding citizens. What course should i take and what can i do???? I am afraid to even go to work on monday. yes, there is more to the story. what that is, is the fact that the police knew who lived in my house. they knew it was me and her. and when i had picked her up earlier while she was walking, someone had seen me pull over and pick her up and called the police and told them they seen some guy pick up a girl in a big ugly, red surfing van and was concerned. thats how they know where i lived and who it was. everyone knows everyone here. I dint answer the door mainly cause if they dont have a search warrent, i dont answer. i dont have too. I dint do anything wrong. The only possible scenario that makes sense to me is that someone called the police and reported that you had forced your girlfriend into the truck against her will. the Police would be fully justified to force entry into your house under these circumstances. if they had reasonable cause to believe that she was in imminent danger, the fourth amendment would not apply. the Officers may have taken her into a separate room to question her (standard protocol) about her welfare, relationship to you etc. I find it difficult to believe that they tried to force her to make false charges against you. Having lived in Orlando for 8 years, your story of the Merritt Island Police being extremely lazy and not trained well and don't go by any book, makes little sense to me as I well know the standards required for certification as a peace officer in the state of Florida. However these are only my opinions and this war of words could rage on for weeks. if this story really is true as stated and you have an honest reason to fear the internal affairs bureau ( the one you gave makes little sense to me) you may want to contact the State Attorneys Office or the F.D.L.E. and see if you can start an investigation into the conduct of the officers. if you feel that your civil rights were violated, then you may also have grounds for a federal investigation.

Would this be a good place for me to work?

I am a 16 year old male, I am in 10th grade and I have a 3.5 GPA. I am looking for a job that pays at least $7.25 an hour (Which is Minimum Wage in Florida). I live in Merritt Island, which is an extremely populated Island in Florida and also very small. My school has over 3000 students, therefore most of the well known places such as: Publix, Target, Pizza Hut, Home Depot, Wal Mart and most restaurants. I am only looking for a Part-Time job because of school. I went to Subway which is within walking distance (Even though I have my own car and license) and they said they have been hiring for a month or so and they haven't had anybody come in and asked for an application (This Subway is brand new and really nice). I often go to this Subway to get food since it's so close, so when I went in there the shift manager that is usually there when I go there said "I will put in a good word for you, since I see you in here often and have good manners" and I know quite a few people that work there. So I went home and filled out the application then went back later and turned it in. Do you guys think this would be a good job for a 16 year old? If so, why?

Working at Subway could be a great first job. Since you have a car, it would be a good idea to apply at other places that allow part time schedules in the area... just in case subway doesn't have room in their schedule for you.

Driving to JFK from New London in time for 10.50a.m. flight?
Question:
Hi everyone, I'm gonna be flying out of JFK in October, at 10.50 a.m., a national flight. How early should I drive away from New London, CT, to be at the airport in time? I just need to return the car at the rental center, no searching for parking necessary. According to Google Maps, when I drive away 5.45 from New London, I should be at JFK in 2h 30min. So according to that, I should be at JFK 8.15. But then, it says it's 3h 10mins in rush hour. And so it would be 8.55 at JFK. Should be in time enough for the check-in cutoff time at 10.20, or the 10.35 boarding cut-off time. And of course for the 10.50 departure of the plane. I searched the internet as much as I could, but I could not find any info on how much the normal travel time of 2h 30mins would be delayed in rush hour traffic, in real life morning rush hour. I know that VanWyck can be congested, but there's alternate roads for every part on the way. There's the Merritt Expy as replacement for I-95, and there's Throg Neck's Bridge as a replacement for Whitestone Bridge, and Cross Island Expy as a replacement for Van Wyck. So one could check the traffic reports when on the go, and use alternative roads if on the original ones there's too much of a traffic jam. I've looked into trains, of course, but it's too complicated with going MetroNorth first, and then subway, and then AirTrain. Also my flight is only going out of JFK, I can't fly out of PVD or BDL or even BOS instead. I also can't drive to the airport the evening before, and stay there overnight in a hotel, because of a family gettogether on the late afternoon before. I can leave early in the morning though. What's your suggestion? When should I leave in the morning, on a Thursday, in New London, in order to be safe for the 10.50 flight departure at JFK? Thank you in advance for any response.

Answer:
Personally, I would go down the day before and stay overnight at a nearby hotel. You may even be able to park your car free while you're gone. There's a website - I think it's sleepparkfly.com or something like that - that has info on such things. Maybe you'll jsut have to leave the family gathering a bit early. It will be much easier on your nerves....
