Questions Related to holiday, florida cars

Provided By Y! Answers

I am a UK citizen can I buy and drive a car in Florida when going for a 90 day holiday?
Question:
I own a property in Florida and I want to go for a 3 month holiday perhaps twice a year, I would like to buy a small car instead of paying $2500 to rent one each time we went, when not using it it would be garaged Can I do this and with what restrictions?

Answer:
I am not entirely sure about Florida but when I lived in Connecticut for a year I got a car and for that I needed an American driver's license (not to buy the car - who is going to stop you) but for registering it and for insurance and the problem there might be your visa - if you only have a visa for 3 months then the DMV Florida will most likely only give you a driver's license for 3 months (that's what they told someone with a German license on this kind of visa) and you'd have to do the test every time again and pay for it. This also means that you can only insure and register your car for 3 month intervals. To confirm this I'd contact the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) in FL, here's the link: http://www.dmvflorida.org/ Maybe if you have made good friends there you could buy a car and they could register and insure it in their name with insurance for "anyone over age X" so you could drive it?

I have bought a holiday home in Florida. Can I buy a car for when im there?
Question:
I have a Full UK licence do I need to swap it for a USA licence, if so what steps do I need to take?

Answer:
You cannot register a vehicle in the US without a valid state drivers license,so yes,you will be required to get a Florida license..Homeland Security requirements.. As far as steps to take, you need to get to steppin to the DMV,lol...They will fill you in on everything you need to know..I can almost assure you that you will need citizenship papers and your ID..

How much does a holiday to Florida? (inc Disney etc)?
Question:
Hi, we are looking to go to Florida in a few years time, our children will be 13 and 5 years old. We want to see all of Disney and Universal etc We just don't know where to stay? How much a two week holiday like that would cost? What tips/advice do you have? Do you think we need a car? I'd like to see a bit more than just the parks! Thanks. Hope you can help.

Answer:
There are many, many variables in pricing a trip like you describe so no one can actually offer a legitimate estimate. Note that the per-day cost of WDW tickets goes down dramatically after about 3 days. Best for you would be to talk to a real travel agency (where you live) after doing the research to price doing the trip on your own. Universal is only worth two or three days of visits. Disney World is much larger (plus better done) and each park (there are 4) is worth a visit, plus a day or two extra for the things you miss or want to do again. There are other things to do in central Florida, such as Sea World, the Kennedy Space Center, and going to the Gulf of Mexico coast. http://www.visitflorida.com/ Stay on-site at one of the Disney hotels or very close by at a hotel connected to the Disney transportation system (ex. Hilton and Holiday Inn on Hotel Plaza Blvd.). Rent a car only when you need one to go to places other than WDW. I > don't < recommend staying somewhere away from WDW as long as you are visiting Disney World. There are significant benefits to being able to easily & fairly quickly get back to your hotel during the day while visiting WDW, plus souvenir purchases can be delivered to your hotel by WDW (free service) so you don't have to carry them around. Hotels all over Orlando advertise shuttle service to the attractions, but if you do decide to stay somewhere like International Drive make certain you know the details. Most of them only offer a couple of departures in the morning and a couple of returns in the afternoon. I have visited Orlando several times and recommend making going to WDW the central theme of your visit and the base for your trip. Disney does theme parks the best anywhere and you can use a rental car to visit other things/places from a base hotel at WDW. ------------------------------------- Citizens of about 35 countries can travel to the USA for up to 90 days at a time as a tourist or for some business purposes by registering for ESTA > before < their trip begins. The cost is US$14, which is similar to the fee for the Australian ETA program. https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/ http://travel.state.gov/visa/ temp/without/without_1990.html http://www.usembassy.org.uk/visase rvices/?p=129 Registering is accomplished online, you don't need the details of your trip, and the confirmation is valid for multiple trips to the USA over two (2) years so don't wait until the last minute. Print the confirmation - or at least record the number - and keep the information with your passport. Having a return or onward ticket leaving North America is a requirement, so have a copy of your airline itinerary at passport control. Check with your health insurance to find out if it covers you in the USA. If yes then take proof of coverage with you. If no or not sure then get trip medical insurance, which is cheap and sold by airlines & travel agents. The USA has wonderful medical care but it isn't free or even cheap. Please do not skimp on this as an otherwise-silly accident could turn into a crisis if you don't have medical insurance.

Florida fly drive only 3rd party car insurance included?
Question:
I have booked a fly drive holiday to Florida and the car insurance included is only 3rd party. Additional insurance will be sold to me when I arrive for an additional cost, and if i dont take it they will take a deposit of $1500 on my credit card until I return safely with the car. Has anyone got any idea how much this additional insurance will be? Would it just be cheaper for me to hire a whole new car for £100 that has full insurance already included? Thank you.

Answer:
I will advice whatever option you may go for either hire a new car or take additional insurance but do opt for full insurance when you reach U.S. as you will certainly need to be covered 100% when you are there. If you want hire a new car or compare prices you may hire from http://www.pointcarhire.com/ or Hertz as they offer full liability insurance covered in their prices and are good reputed companies.

Roughly how much would a Florida holiday cost?
Question:
There's 2 adults, an 8 yr old and a 3 yr old. I'm talking, travel from the UK, accommodation for a fortnight, passes to the parks, food and a car when there. Basically the whole hog, everything, how much is it gonna cost?

Answer:
hi ther ive been twice in the last two yrs with my wife and 2 young kids 2+3 yrs,we went for three weeks both times and have just booked again next yr for six weeks,we intend on travelling down the coasts on both sides, anyway we did fly drive with virgin holidays, you can get quotes on their website,we paid about £3000 for luxury car, fully inclusive insurance and basic flights, but you could do it alot cheaper with smaller car, more basic insurance and flights with an airline that has a stop on the way to florida,we actually booked flights only this time through virgin atlantic and car hire separate also with virgin atlantic and not virgin holidays!,you see theyre the same company but holidays only do packages whereas atlantic you can book separate if you know what your doing, you can get quotes online so have a look at that. then accomadation we stayed in a villa with a private pool you will love it the villas are huge and theres plenty of them about and they can workout cheaper than a hotel and if youve got a car your sorted, expect about £300-£450 a week,we paid £350 and got a nice one, then theres the theme park tickets,we got our kids in free because of their age but i think we paid about £350 for an flex ticket plus and a disney 14 day ultimate ticket each then paid for a one day nasa ticket and gator land,if youve not been before dont buy one day tickets apart from the last two coz the parks are so much bigger than ours here and you'll miss loads and make sure you go busch gardens even though its about an hour away, some good rides and white lions!,have look through the net for current prices and deals for the parks, then spending this is the part thats hard to judge, first time we took $3000 dollars and had to get about anoouther £500 dollers out the last week but we bought loads of clothes and stuff coz orlando is outlet central, bloody nike outlets on every corner then theres all the restaraunts every two yards but you can get all you can eats for like £10 a head. the second time we took $4000 dollars but came back with about 300-400,but remember last yr it £1-$2 exchange rate but now its 1 and a half so its gonna cost abit more, as you can see it all adds up but if you can afford it trust me its worth the best holiday you can have with a family, good luck

Answer:
Toyota North America has a country wide special on 2010 Toyota's and I believe the Tallahassee Toyota dealer has some good deals on some in stock Toyota vehicles.

I have booked a holiday to Florida but I have a DR30 on my UK driving licence. Will this give me any problems?
Question:
I got the DR30 about 6 years ago and I am not proud of it but I would like to know if I am eligible to holiday there for 2 weeks and can I hire a car? Do I need a Visa or am I still eligible for the Visa waiver program? Does the DR30 count as having a criminal record?

Answer:
the visa system has all changed, you need to apply for a visa on https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov. you need to apply at least10 weeks before your trip. it only takes 5 minutes to fill in and you will be told there and then if you have been accepted. i would fill it in the now so if you are refused then you have lots of time to appeal. if you are accepted then print out a compy of the visa and keep it with your travel documents, it is easier if you are asked for one rather than them having to go look it up. you may not be asked for it though i wasnt when i went.

What Is A Good Website/Airline To Book A Holiday For Florida ?
Question:
A Secure Cheap Website/Airline To Book A Holiday (inc. Flight, Disney Tickets, Hotel and Car Hire)

Answer:
If you are going to Disney, which it sounds like you are I would book through one of the following. 1: Disney.com - by far the best 2: Southwest.com - sometimes has good deals, even if you do not book through them I would always use them for your flight... as long as there is a hub in your area. They have great service, cheap flights and no bag fees. 3: Deltavacations.com - they have a few offers out right now if you have kids, the down side is the air tends to be far more expensive. Personally we always book our hotel, meals and tickets through Disney then book air through Southwest. Also if you stay on Disney property, which I HIGHLY suggest, you wont need a rental car. They will pick you up and take you back to the airport. They also take you to and from the parks, water parks and downtown disney. Saves a huge amount of money as parking is $14 a day and a rental car usually costs at least $300. If you are worried about the cost of staying on property dont. The value resorts are very cheap, we got as low as $66 this year, and the perks are well worth it. Not to mention the huge savings of not needing a rental car can cover the extra cost if you want a moderate or deluxe resort. Also, I would suggest you get the meal plan... one snack, one quick serve and one sit down. Very easy and flexible to use and saves a ton of money if you do not want to eat junk food all week long. Have a great time and if you have other questions email me.

i need car rental advice for holidays in florida?
Question:
im going to florida for 10 nights in september but dont want to rent a car for the whole holiday as everything seems really easy to get to via the trolley systems. For one of the days however i want to visit my sister in gainsville florida so would require a car for one day. does anyone know if i would be able to rent a car for just the one day and if so which companys are good. any advice? Also what paperwork would i need to take with me to rent a car?

Answer:
Hey i go Florida every year and i have found that the best place to rent a car is Alamo Car rental services. We use them mostly. try looking at their website and see what you think. You need to have your driving lisence and a credit card and the prepaid voucher that they will send you throught the post, unless you are paying upfront that day. I hope you have a lovely holiday, as i know it is amazing in Florida! Here is a website that gives you tips on what to do in Ganesville Florida, maybe you can find something fun to do with your sister! http://www.10best.com/Gainesville,FL/

How easy is it to get to the Cirque de Soleil Show in Orlando, Florida without a car?
Question:
We are staying on International Drive but not driving (due to Mum's fear after previous holiday car crash over there.) I want to treat her to this show but need to know how easy it is to get to using public transport. Also is it a safe area to be in when leaving the show? Thanks.

Answer:
The area is very safe and you should have no problems. It is located in Downtown Disney which has several places to shop, dine, Pleasure Island as well as DisneyQuest, so there are a lot of people around and it is a place for families and stuff to go. Really no need to worry about leaving at night. Check with your hotel to see if they offer a shuttle to either Disney or Downtown Disney. If they can take you to one of the parks, you can get on a bus there and take it to Downtown Disney (at this point anyway, I have been hearing they are going to enforce the onsite guests only policy, but I don't know if or when that may happen) If you plan to use your hotel shuttle, be sure to ask what time they stop running because if you go to the later show and/or get dinner after the show, they may not be running the shuttle anymore. It is also important to check when they run. Some hotels offer shuttles that run all day (not too many offer this) but others only offer a few in the morning and a few at night, so you may have a hard time getting to or from. Taxi is another option, but you may want to call the taxi companies to see if they can give you an estimate for the cost of the trip. Taxis can get really expensive pretty quick. Even though the trip is somewhat short, it is still a good distance and might be really high for a taxi. If the taxi is really high you may want to check what the cost for a private transfer would be. For a lot of situations the private transfer will cost less than taxi, it just kind of depends. Public transportation is another option, but having never used it I don't know cost (though it would be less) and where they run, where they would drop you off, how hard it is to get where you are going, etc. From what I have heard, a lot of times it can be kind of hard to get around. Have a great time!
