CHEAPEST WAY FROM FT. LAUDERDALE TO CORAL GABLES AND BACK?!?
Question:
Hi! I won't have a car and I'll be arriving at the Fort Lauderdale airport. My hotel is in Coral Gables. What's the cheapest method of transportation? Thanks in advance! :) Thanks for all the help everyone! The hotel by the way is the Colonnade Westin in Coral Gables, if this helps!

Answer:
If you are traveling in the day time then Tr-Rail/Metro-Rail (approx $6 - $7 each way) is by far your best option. First of all Supershuttle does NOT service FLL. The company that does doesn't serve Coral Gables so you'll have to make transfers anyway. A cab will run between $80 & $100 depending on where in the Gables & how lost the driver gets. The Tri-rail/Metro-rail option: At FLL take the free tri-rail shuttle (go to the County bus stop to the left outside arrivals) Wait for the white Tri-rail mini-bus shuttle. Take it to Tri-rail station. (about 10 min) Buy ticket & board to "Metro-Rail Transfer station" (about $3.00 weekdays, $4.00 weekends). When you get to the transfer station (only about 30 minutes), get off & pay $2.00 for Metro-Rail (another train) (8 quarters or buy them at vending machine). Take Metro-Rail south direct to Coral Gables (about 30 min). Now the question is WHERE in Coral Gables. Coral Gables is BIG. There are TWO Gables stations: the first ("Coral Gables" will take you to a Trolley Bus stop which bus will take you (I believe it's free) into "downtown Coral Gables" & Miracle Mile where most -- but not all -- of the hotels are. From here you can bus or be picked up or take a cab. The second C. Gables stop is "University of Miami," which is right across from the main entrance to the University & is in the south part of Coral Gables. If you're staying at Holiday-Inn University, its' also across the street. Metro-Rail runs every 10-30 min. depending on time of day, but Tri-Rail is a commuter line that runs every half hour at rush hours; every hour during mid-day; every two hours on weekends and not at all from about 9:30 PM to 5:00 am. So if your timing is right this works. Go to www.Tri-rail.com If you post your hotel we can give you better info.

University of Miami (Coral Gables) public transportation?
Question:
Hey, I just got into The U and I'm pretty psyched, but I was wondering, how is the public transportation down there? You guys think I'll need a car? I see there's a metro rail across the street from campus and its not like I can't walk... but I haven't been there to see it myself, so I'm not to sure. I'd prefer some UM students to answer, but if you're just familiar with the area then thats cool too It's not a Noles logo!!! How dare you even accuse me of such treachery?!!?!!? It's the Washington Redskins!

Answer:
I hope you're planning to junk the 'nole logo -- or do you prefer to see your underwear on the lawn? Yes, it is right across Ponce de Leon Blvd (which is ALWAYS referred to as "Ponce."). I believe that as a student you are entitled to a discount pass which applies to buses & train. With that combo you can get most anywhere you want to go. You don't NEED a car -- but there's so much to do in So Fla. & it is so spread out that sooner or later most students get one.

Transportation in Miami?
Question:
I am planning a trip to Miami. Besides hitting the beaches and nightclubs I would like to visit Coral Gables (Univ. of Miami). Is it necessary to rent a car or is public transportation good enough?

Answer:
If you were planning on just visiting Coral Gables, Downtown, South Miami (Sunset place) or the inner city, you could take the Metrorail and Metromover because the track follows a limited route. But you'll need a car to cross the causeways (bridges) to Miami Beach because the buses run few and far between. If you have the time to spare, don't rent a car. If not, rent a car but get it from the Ft. Lauderdale airport, it's cheaper. In fact, flying into FLL is much cheaper than MIA and there's only 20 min drive time between the two.

where can i rent a wheelchair in miami?
Question:
today was my first day of classes at the university of miami. i know no one. i just broke my foot and will have to be on crutches for the majority of the semester. i do not have a car. even though UM has a shuttle, i will still have to walk quite A bit to get to my classes. since having a wheelchair can make it vastly easier to transport my incrdibly heavy book, i was wondering if anyone knew where i could rent a wheelchair in miami. none of the pharmacies have wheelchairs. plus, buying a wheelchair seems impractical since i will only have a cast on for about two months. please, if anyone knows where i can rent a wheelchair, please tell me. be specific. i am new to the coral gables / miami area. and please dont tell me to "just take the bus" bc i have already looked at those sort of options before i even broke my foot. please help me. waiting for several days to several weeks for a pharmacy to order a wheelchair is not an option, since i have to go to six different courses this week.

Answer:
Go to the "health services" department of the college and tell them your storie, I bet they have a wheelchair you can use available, or just go to a local rental store and rent one its usually quite cheap. Good luck get well.

Is it mccain who is 'put of touch' and 'insensitve ' to poor people?
Question:
,... who are feeling the pinch of higher prices at the pump.?? McCain CALLS OBAMA INSENSITIVE TO POOR PEOPLE CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Sunday called Democratic rival Barack Obama insensitive to poor people and out of touch on economic issues. The GOP nominee-in-waiting rapped his Democratic rival for opposing his idea to suspend the tax on fuel during the summer, a proposal that McCain believes will particularly help low-income people who usually have older cars that guzzle more gas. "I noticed again today that Sen. Obama repeated his opposition to giving low-income Americans a tax break, a little bit of relief so they can travel a little further and a little longer, and maybe have a little bit of money left over to enjoy some other things in their lives," McCain said. "Obviously Sen. Obama does not understand that this would be a nice thing for Americans, and the special interests should not be dictating this policy." mccain is out of touch himself. anyone who drives is feeling the piinch! this 'opoor people' with 'older cars' nonsense is just that. I wonder if mccain pays attention to vehicles on the road. in New Jersey all we see are gas-guzzlung trucks/suvs. mccain is so last century !!

Answer:
It's an artificial thing to do. They've raised rates 40 cents a gallon and want to give us an 18 cents a gallon break. Whoopie. Why not release the oil reserves and really give us a break. Why not tell the gas companies they lose their subsidy unless they lower their profit margin by 3% for six months? There are other solutions.

Is there cheaper parking in downtown Miami??
Question:
I am going to be staying at the Hilton Miami downtown. I just looked on their site and the parking is 28!?! Does anyone know any alternative parking lots in that area? I don't want my daily parking cost to be more than my daily car rental! Since I haven't rented the car yet, how easy it to get around in that area to other areas (e.g. South Beach, North Beach, Coral and Gables, Key Largo, Key West, etc)? Besides taxis, what are other methods of transportation in this area? Any other info you have would be helpful!

Answer:
The $28 includes valet service. Do a Google search for "Miami Parking Authority," to see if there are any parking garages nearby that may be more reasonable. You are only a block or so from the free Metro-Mover which can get you just about anywhere downtown & there's a nearby bus stop from which you can get the "A" bus that runs to 17th St on Miami Beach & the "T" that runs to North Beach. But if you want to go anywhere else you'll be better off with a car. Don't worry about parking costing more than the car; the posted rental rates typically don't include all the fees & taxes & extras (like pre-paid fuel & insurance) which can double the cost. Got to: www.co.miami-dade.fl.us/transit/ for transit info.

Where can I purchase original parts for a Honda Civic (EK-3) 2-door Hatchback - Multi Matic Transmission?
Question:
Original parts for the Honda are very expensive in my country [in the Caribbean]. My job takes me to Miami, New York and the Washington D.C. area at least once a month. Specifically close to the Manahattan, New York area; Coral Gables,Miami or Dulles, Virginia. I would like to do some minor performance modifications to the ignition (e,g, MSD), air filter system and exhaust (e.g. extractor) systems to give the car a little more speed/acceleration. Suggestions welcomed. I would also like to change some of the regular parts wipers, hoses and belts (air conditioning and timing) that are due to be changed ... and tune up parts spark plugs, oil filter, air filter etc. EK-3 Type : Ri Thanks for the answers ... I just happen to like my Honda. ... yes ... to the first responder ... we have Mercs and BMWs; Porshes, Ferraris every model Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Lexus, VWs, Renault, Audis, Volvo etc. One of my friends just purchased a BMW 745 Series and several others have Mercedez and other model Beemers ... my very good friend owns an Audi A6 ... so yes there are many other makes/models/types of cars ... but I like my Honda ... this is my 5th car here in my country and my 8th overall. I owned a Ford Capri, Toyota Corolla KE70 and an SR-5 while I was doing my degree in the US.

Answer:
Maintenance parts are plentiful in the US. You could literally walk into any local automotive stores and pick them up. Prices are so competitive, it really doesn't matter where you buy them. Why don't you research what stores are near-by when you come to the US next time, and just pick them up. As to genuine Honda parts, they are expensive here as well, although perhaps not as much as what they are in Caribbean countries. Do you have time to shop around a junk yard? Otherwise, you might want to setup a mailing address in the US and do mail orders. You are better off asking this question on Honda forums such as www.honda-acura.net. One concern though.... how much do you have to pay to get it through your custom? Would it be a problem if the parts are used one from junk yard? To the person who left the first reply: You may want to pay more attention when you visit a foreign country. If you look beyond the tourist areas, you might have noticed, the country is not an affluent one. Many people work long hours in tourism industry and give visitors an illusion of a paradise. In many cases, older cars from US are their treasured possession. Besides, Civics are very well engineered cars.
