1st Timer vacationing across NY and New England. What places/food do you consider to be "Don't Miss This"?
Question:
Flying R/T to Syracuse. Renting a car -1600 miles in 10 days. Key goals - Fall foliage peeping, Green and White Mtns, visiting antique shops and hoping to find antique days or auctions in the area. Also love touring historic homes - Samuel Clemons, Eastman, etc., local foods 1st night - Syracuse Day 2 - Drive to Utica, then heading N. thru the Adirondacks to Lake Placid for one night. Day 3 - Head N, crossing Lake Champlain into VT. Have yet to select our route to our lodge in Fairlee (2 nights). Thinking about Shelburne Museum and Quechee Gorge. Day 4 - Day trip VT/NH and back to Fairlee. Possible trip to apple orchard outside Concord, NH. Day 5 - N. on E or W of CT River, heading to Whitehead and 1 night in B & B. Day 6 - E. to Bangor/Ellsworth - 1 night. Bar Harbor? Day 7 - S. along coast to Portland - 1 night Day 8 - S. to Boston w/night in Worcester - Higgins Armory? Day 9 - Thru RI to Mystic, CT 1 night, Windsor Locks. Day 10 - Head to Syracuse Day 11 - Fly Ideas?

Answer:
In NH you should try and get to Canterbury Village outside of Concord/Belmont. It is an Original Shaker Village with all the buildings and tours. It might only be open weekends now but worth the trip. Castle In The Clouds in Moultonborough,NH is a home built by a very rich/eccentric man back in the early 1900's and is on top of a Mt with panoramic views of Lake Winnipeasaukee. Beautiful in the fall.. Antique shops abound everywhere. RT 1 on the Seacoast of NH/Maine is a great road for this. In Vt, try and get to Stowe home of the VonTrapp family/Sound of Music.

How to fly or bus into Ware, MA?
Question:
I have a friend who moved to Ware, MA. I want to fly there but don't want to pay for renting a car to drive from Boston when she could pick me up and we spend all out rime together. Same reason I don't want to spend 24 hours and lots of gas money driving there. Looked up train prices and it costs as much and takes longer. So what to do? A. Fly to Windsor Locks, CT and then take a 30 minute, $5.50 Amtrak ride to Springfield MA where she can pick me up. B. Fly to Boston and try and find a bus that gets me close to Ware? I can't find anything except a Greyhound to Worcester but that still leaves me trying to get into the station from Logan, and riding the bus for an hour, so my friend can drive an hour to get me. Is there any better plan?

Answer:
You also might fly to Boston Logan, take the MBTA SIlver Line to South Station and take the commuter rail to Worcester and have her pick you up there. I think that's your most flexible option. There are many commuter rail trips to Worcester. See: http://www.mbta.com

First time taking my car in for a tune up? Anything I should look out for?
Question:
So, I'm 17, and I bought a 1996 Bronco last summer. It has never been in the shop that I've had it. But...It really needs a tune up or something. SO tomorrow morning it's going to the shop. I know one of the co-owner's of the shop from church, but that doesn't mean I fully trust him. My dad has taken our work truck there b4 and they did an ok job. But that doesn't mean I like their work. You can';t trust anyone! But the Bronco needs work. Sooooo...Anything I should know of ahead of time to avoid just getting taken? Any advice. I'm not car savvy at all. I wish I was. All I know is that it has a big ole 351 Windsor 5.8 liter engine in it. With 115,000 miles on it. And.... *It chugs and hesitates before lunging on the highway sometimes *turns signals selectively don't work *Power locks don't like to work (bad fuse maybe?) *Getting 12 mpg. *When I bought it the kid I bought it from told me one of the rear main seals was cracked, so it leaked a lil oil. However I;ve never seen it drip oil? *In drive thrus sometimes it will start vibrating!? *AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR 11 MONTHS NOW. Now, I really want it to have a long life, but I don't know shit about cars (I'm taking an autos class this fall--I'm saving up), and my dad is content to let me drives the wheels off it. So...ANYTHING I SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR WHEN IT GOES TO THE SHOP TOMORROW? ANY ADVICE!?

Answer:
Hi, cancell that appt and get it to the ford garage schedule service and have them check all things on the Veh and what needs to be done for that milage service, now remember your paying the bill So don't authorize any major repairs with out a print out of findings and that should show you whats actually wrong, it should show you the specs it should be, and what your actual veh specs are, as far as your other findings on your veh. Have them make sure it it's documented when you pay the bill. for the service. then once you find out what is all wrong w/veh find a good mechanis, who'll do it reasonable. and you go and by the parts yourself try always if can get actual fit parts.

Question:
There was some light in the far-east house, I realized as I rounded the corner. Not much; it was a dim golden square at the topmost chamber. A candle light perhaps, or a night lamp threatening to fade. Nothing to draw much attention, or even distract a lost stranger, I mentally approved. I slowed in my cruiser as I neared the front gates. The sheer face of the building stood high and tall against the black night's sky. It could have been a castle with its small, slender towers, but not your typical prince-charming residence. It had an ancient look to it, yes, like most of the houses in this neighborhood, but with a few gothic touches it appeared more as a house of a devil than a man, let alone prince. Not scary though. In fact, it looked quite exquisite with its smooth-bricked surfaces, crystalline windows, and round water fountain that was somewhere beyond the gates, where another pair of sealed marble doors stood. I put the car in park, where I left it running before the front gates, and then stepped out into the night. A soft breeze swept through the high-class residency of Windsor Court, blowing the hair off my shoulders and leaving a subtle quivering in the trees embracing the tower. I moved around the car and stopped as I reached the iron gates. They were locked, but by no chains or combinations. Smarter yet, a thin vine of ivy twisted its way through the bars, binding the gates together as though they hadn't been opened in a long enough time. I stood before them a moment more, staring off into the night, entranced by its unusual silence. The sky was clear tonight, with no trace of cloud or fog. Thousands of stars clung to it from above, glittering like a gazillion little lights. No sound came from the house. And if it weren’t for the light glowing inside its uppermost window, a by-passer would have thought it vacant. Again, a satisfying, almost proud, feeling washed over me –approval at its best. So maybe the endowed could be depended on afterall, I mused as I touched the dried stem of a withered rose clinging precariously to one of the iron bars. A new breeze swept by, stronger this time. It shook the rose, but the gates didn't budge. So I reached for them, stroking the smooth metal with the tip of my finger. As a certain will settled, a subtle rush surged through my body. It blossomed from my heart, spilled into my bloodstream, reached out to the tips of my fingers, and then swirled in waves and strings of silver light, dancing and floating to the cold metal, where it coiled around the kissing iron bars, forcing them apart. The ivy immediately gave way, unable to resist. The dead rose fell. With a last touch of my hand, I willed the gates to open. They did. I stepped away from their path and moved hastily to the car, where I switched gears and drove towards the house. The headlights illuminated much of my path, showing me the exact blue-grey color of the bricks, the awed statue in the fountain. The light glittered off the crystilline window panes, but showed nothing within the house. Again, it could have been empty, if not for the faded light in the highest tower. It was dark inside. I gathered a new ounce of silvery energy into the palm of my hand and shone it on my path. A spirling staircase led to the upper levels of the mansion, It's to be continued I guess. Please critique and tell me what you think. Honest first impression.

Answer:
It's good start, but i think you need to work on you sentence structuring. (ex; the very first sentence). It's alittle confusing. One thing that you can do is add more to the beginning. Who is this person? Why is she at this mansion? Stuff like that. You can start off talking about her driveing on the road on the way there, because the first sentance caught me off gaurd. It's mysterious, descriptive, and i think if you revise it, it'll be fine. Keep up the good work.

Answer:
There's definitely something here... The detail is very good and I love the penultimate paragraph, very well written. I think you should try to give more of an idea of the main character, try to give some idea of what he/she is feeling to add to the atmosphere you have already created. It might improve it a little - just my opinion.
