If I drive my car from Stamford, Connecticut to New York, New York how many hours will it take to get there?
Question:
I'm new to the East Coast. I know I can take a train but I was wondering how many hours is it by car.Thank you.

Answer:
Metro North aka the Train will do it in 48 minutes and at 2:00AM an experienced NYC driver such as I might be able to take 10 minutes off of that But during rush hour my drive time could easily double or triple . http://as0.mta.info/mnr/schedules/sched_results.cfm Then of course you have this little problem of where do you park your vehicle ? Bottom line don't drive into Manhattan unless you're getting paid to do it.

What is the average commuting time by car from Levittown, Long Island, NY to Stamford, Connecticut?
Question:
I am considering a relocation to Levittown, Long Island (NY) to be near my girlfriend and also taking up a nice job that is located in Stamford, Connecticut. Google Maps says it's 1 hour and 5 minutes. Mapquest says it's 1 hour even. I know Long Island and NYC metro area traffic can get really nasty so I wanted to know if anyone has done this commute or can tell me how long it REALLY takes on average. How about the tolls? Any alternative options? I know there is a ferry, but I think it would take longer. And I don't know of any mass transit options (other than Amtrak, which I believe would take longer than an hour) BTW, Levittown would be close to Hempstead, Hicksville, Farmingdale, Melville - that general area. And I'd be right off the Hempstead Turnpike (Rt. 24) Any ideas??? Is this worth it?

Answer:
Totally not worth it. During rush hour, it would take at least two hours or more, depending on traffic. With no traffic the faster I've ever done it (Bethpage-Stamford) was 1 hour 15 min...and with traffic, forget about it. You'd be better off taking the LIRR to Woodside, the 7 to Grand Central, and the Metro-North to Stamford. I guess this could work, but it would take about two hours, maybe a bit more.

Will I be bored out of my mind if I move to Stamford, Connecticut?
Question:
I'm a 35 year old single female. I like the city, but cannot afford to live in Manhattan, and I do not want to live with roomates, besides the fact that I have a car. I don't like Jersey so I thought about moving to Connecticut. I know it's a little pricey there as well as Manhattan, but I at least I can have my car. Is it really boring there?

Answer:
Stamford isn't too bad. It's not Manhattan, but there are many restaurants and bars and some semblance of a night life.

Could I take a train from Stamford,CT to Orange New jersey?
Question:
I am buying a car in Orange New jersey and would like to know if it is possible to do this from stamford connecticut? If you can leave a schedule!

Answer:
You can take Amtrak as noted and have to go out of your way for $5 (or more) or you might consider the following (OK it will take several trains but these operate much more often than Amtrak does and will come out cheaper). From Stamford via MetroNorth to Grand Central - $12.50 one way (off-peak) r $16.50 one way (peak). Travel time is approximately 1 hour From Grand Central via subway (Fare $2.50 for a single ride ticket or $2.25 if you buy a MetroCard with at lest $4.50 on it). Take the 42nd St Shuttle (S train) to Times Square. At Times Square transfer (free) to a Downtown 1, o r 3 train (numbers in red circles) to 34th St-Penn Station (one stop). Travel time is about 15 minutes. From Penn station (exit the subway into Penn Station) take a NJ Transit MidTown Direct train to Orange NJ. Fare is $6.25 one way. Travel time is about 30 minutes. ****Train's final destination may be either Dover, or Summit ***** The total cost is $21.25 (off-peak) or $25.25 (peak) IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure you buy your ticket(s) BEFORE boarding the train(s). Tickets purchased on-board will cost from $5.00 to $6.00 more. MetroNorth New Haven Line Timetable (select weekday or weekend from th resulting page): http://www.mta.info/mnr/html/planning/schedules/schedules .htm NJ Transit - Morris & Essex Line (MidTown Direct) - look for the columns with "MD" at the top.: http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/r0040.pdf

Advice on hit and run case in Connecticut?! please?
Question:
I was driving through Massachusetts Turnpike and I got into a car accident. A police cited me to go to court in Stamford, Connecticut I will like to know if there is any guidance that anyone can provide me prior to the court? Here is a Background of the accident. The car in front of me stopped the car as soon as he saw the traffic ahead of him. However, I didn't have enough time to stop my car. I hit the back of his car but no major damaged was seen. I pulled over to see if the person was alright and i knock on his window since he didn't get out of the car. He didn't rolled down his window the first 2 times that I knocked on his window. I could only see him inside the car and mouthing that he was calling. Then, I knock on his window again until he finally accepted to talk to me. I asked if he was alright and he said yes. Then, i told him that his car was fine. After this small conversation, I panicked and I didn't know what to do since this is my first accident. I did the horrible mistake of leaving the scene. A police stopped me after 5 min of leaving the place and asked me what happened. I told the police the story and then the other person involved in the accident came. The ambulance arrived and asked him if he was alright but they didn't check him, therefore they left (I'm assuming that he didn't have any injury). Then, the police cited me to go to court on Stamford for 2 Misdemeanor: 1) Following too close. 2) Evading responsibility. IDK what to do, i didn't know if i should hire a lawyer or not. my court is tmw and this is the first time this happened to me i was really scared and unfamiliarized with this type of accident. anyonee know anything? that can help me? i will appreciate it

Answer:
You can hire a lawyer if you like but in my opinion, you were guilty of leaving the scene of an accident and following too close. If you agree then pay the fine. if you don't agree hire a lawyer but I cannot see how you would win.

Connecticut Hotel Blames Victim for Rape - your thoughts?
Question:
http://jezebel.com/5336871/connecticut-marriott-claims-assault-vi ctim-was-careless-and-negligent Connecticut Marriott Claims Assault Victim Was Careless And Negligent By Margaret, 5:00 PM on Thu Aug 13 2009, 16,436 views A Connecticut Marriott, which is being sued by a woman who was raped in front of her children in its parking garage, is claiming she "failed to exercise due care for her own safety and the safety of her children." The Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa, and the firms that manage the hotel and parking garage, have filed court documents arguing that the hotel is not responsible for damages even though the woman was raped on the premises because she was careless, negligent, and didn't exercise "proper use of her senses and facilities," according to The Stamford Advocate. The 40-year-old woman filed a lawsuit against the company in May 2008, six months after Gary Fricker of Connecticut was sentenced to 20 years in prison for pleading guilty to aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, risk of injury to a minor and robbery. On October 10, 2008, Fricker approached the woman in the hotel's parking garage as she was loading her two children under the age of seven into their car seats in the back of her minivan. He stuck a gun in her back and she told him to take her wallet, but he demanded that she take off her clothes. He raped her and pointed a gun at one of the children and threatened to sexually assault one of them too. When another car pulled up she screamed and Fricker fled. He was arrested three days later in New York and immediately confessed. As the Associated Press reported at the time, the woman is seeking more than $15,000 in damages against the hotel because she claims Fricker had been roaming around the hotel and parking lot for days and spent "many hours" looking for victims without ever being questioned buy hotel security. Other hotel patrons and at least one hotel employee saw him loitering in the parking lot and acting suspiciously, but no one did anything. The woman's lawsuit claims the hotel didn't take reasonable security precautions to prevent the attack or train their employees on in basic security techniques. She said the hotel also should have known about a series of reported sexual assaults that happened in the area in the months and years before her rape. In the papers recently filed by the hotel in preparation for the April trial, the defense claims they hadn't been notified about Fricker, that the attack was beyond their control, and that the woman and her children didn't properly "mitigate their damages." The hotel has subpoenaed several people who know the woman but were not aware of the attack, including family members, friends, a Pilates instructor, tennis partners, and a baby sitter. Attorneys for the woman, who was only identified as Jane Doe in court documents, say the subpoenas identified her to those people and were only filed in an attempt to intimidate her. It would seem the decent thing to do (and the smarter public relations move) would have been for Marriott to cooperate with the woman from the start or pay her the damages. The defense could have just argued that no one but Fricker was responsible for the crime, but instead the hotel management is blaming the victim for endangering herself and her children. We can't understand how the woman was asking for it by buckling her two children into their car seats, but maybe the lesson to take from the defense's argument is that it's careless and negligent for a woman to assume those in charge of the Stamford Marriott will follow standard security procedures or behave in a decent, humane way. Which should I do...Train vs. Car?
Question:
My friend and I are going to South Carolina for a few days. We want to know how much faster a train could get us there vs. a car (about 12 hours). I'm from Stamford, Connecticut. So how long would a train take to get to SC? Is it worth it or should we just drive?

Answer:
I would take the train. You won't have to worry about driving, and instead, you can just sit back and relax, and enjoy the trip.

What do you think of this?
Question:
My friend and I are from stamford connecticut. in a few days we plan on traveling 745 miles to munice indianna to visit our from that attends ball state university. but heres the catch. we're driving in an 1989 toyota carolla. it's 1500 round trip. we've estimated the trip will cost ous 125$ 120 for gas and 20 for cigarettes. do you think this car will make it? or is the carollie sending us to our death bed?

Answer:
Between this and a Honda, probably your best bet in getting there. Have the oil changed at a shop before you leave: make sure they also check the belts, hoses, other fluid levels and tell them (when they're done) that you're going on a trip and do they think it's running okay for that? They will be straight with you but may try to sell you an expensive air filter or glove compartment bearing (just kidding), just use your head or perhaps get a second opinion if they do. Have a good trip.

Question:
Complicated question: Here goes.

I currently live in NYC (with wife and kids), and won't be moving out to California until December, even though I began working at Yahoo in April (I'm commuting every week x-country).

I say that as background because my 95 year old grandfather in New Haven, CT just decided to give me his "old car" (a 2002 Toyota of some kind). Until we move out to California, however, we're going to be parking it my wife's sister's in Stamford Connecticut.

So here's the question: Can I register the car now in California or do I have to wait until it has physically arrived in the state?

And if not, how much extra is it going to cost me to register now in New Haven and then to reregister it again in California? If the additional money is significant, we'll probably just wait until we come to California, because we have very little need to use the car until then.

Hope that all made sense.

Answer:
i've done that recently. the car must be physically located in california. they needto inspect it and such.

btw - you have to do that a month or so after you get it in the state or you get a fine.

Answer:
California requires a smog test therefore the car will have to be physically in California.
