how to legalize parking my new car in london?

i live in zone 2, i presume i need to register somewhere to park a car on the street outside of the flat i rent. how do i do it? and what costs are associated with that each month ?

There is no possible way for your question to be answered as we don't know where in zone 2 you live, as zone 2 is for rail travel. You need to look a your neighbours cars to see if they have parking permits. There would be bays marked on the road with signs that say "resident parking only" If you have seen any of the above then you need to phone your council and apply. They will be able to tell you how much if at all.

You cannot import a car from another country unless the car is 25 years old or more unless you modify it to meet US emmisions and safety laws. Doing this would cost you $2000-$3000 dollars. Not to mention that the car in London is a RHD (right hand drive) and here in the US we have LHD cars. So you would also need to convert the car to a LHD, if I had to guess...depending on if it is a manual or automatic transmission...another $2500 for that. So now you are no less than $4500 in the hole before you can even drive the car in the US. Shipping would be another $2000 or so. Shipping takes roughly 10 days, US customs takes another 10 days or so. You would be better off just buying one here in the US.

If you want to park for free, then there's massive car parks (free) at Brent Cross Shopping centre, but the station (Brent Cross) is about 15-20 minutes walk away, you can get a bus on New Year's Eve. The 189 and 266 bus routes run through the night and terminate at Brent Cross, so if you use one the car parks near the bus station (outside John Lewis) at Brent Cross then you can get a direct bus from Oxford Circus (266) or Hammersmith (189) to Brent Cross.
