Question:
A friend and I are headed out to Mesa, Arizona at the end of next month on the motorcycles for a large benefit ride. We will be headed thru Durango and plan on staying there. I love camping on motorcycles, so my question is: What is the closest National Forest that has easy enough access for a motorcycle to handle? Washboard dirt road is just fine, basically any road a car could handle. We are looking for free camping. Thanks!

Answer:

Searching for dad's college car.?
Question:
My dad had a Camaro in the late 1970s. He used to go to college in Durango, Colorado. I have no information on the car. My dad lives in another country and haven't renewed his driving license since. Is there a way that I can access driving records from the 1970s to find my dads driving license after which I can find the registered cars on that driver's license. That way I'll get the VIN.

Answer:
No matter how sentimental the reason, that info isn't available to the public; it's protected by federal law. Even a police officer couldn't legally get it for you.

Planning a Colorado visit next year?
Question:
My husband and I are from Hawaii and have never been in snow. We'd like to go to Colorado next year (February, March-ish) and visit family, do some sight-seeing. Places we plan on going to are Denver, Durango and Cortez. Maybe Grand Lake. Neither of us has seen snow, let alone drive in it. Any tips for non-metro driving? Obviously we'd be renting a car, any tips on what to get? I plan on making or picking up an emergency kit for the just-in-case situations (flares, cat litter, shovel, etc.) and then leave it with relatives if we don't need it. It's been years since I last visited Denver and Cortez, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Answer:
I used to live in Colorado and I drove around a 4x4 Jeep Liberty, I never had any troubles. It's efficient and functional. Avoid PT cruisers, they are terrible in the snow and don't respond well to altitude change. Use your transmission to slow down, shift from drive...then second...then eventually first. Whatever you do, don't hit the breaks, feather the brakes (slow, extremely light pressure) if you have to use them. When your going down the mountain, keep it in low gear and try not to use your breaks too much, they will get extremely hot then fail. I usually stay in second gear, or 4x4 low (if it's slick). The liberty handles really well and is actually fairly comfortable. When your ready to turn off the 4x4, come to a complete stop, dis-engage 4x4 then back up a few feet. This is necessary, it may remain locked in, until this is done. Always give the engine ample time to warm up before driving off, mine usaully took about 2 minutes if it was really coId (about the same amount of time it takes for the heater to fully warm up). I recommend going through Hertz rent-a-car (they don't charge for additional mileage), avoid enterprise. Always get the insurance and make sure the tank is completely full when you return it to the lot (they will charge you for every gallon they have to put back in, and they're charging $2 more than the gas station.) If you have time, you should visit Monarch Pass, it's truly beautiful and there's a store at the top that has some really cool stuff. If possible, bring a small gas can, at least a 3 to 5 gallon and keep it full. There are many places in Colorado where it may be a few hundred miles until the next gas station. A couple quarts of oil, anti-freeze, power steering fluid, and brake fluid are also highly recommended, also make sure the spare tire is in good condition and that you have the key to unlock it. Your likely going to be driving through places that are very desolate, and a few that are quite dangerous. Keep your doors locked and don't leave your belongings in view, especially if you go through Denver (purchase some pepper spray as soon as possible). Having said all that, I love Colorado, it's the most beautiful place I've ever been, I know ya'll will enjoy your trip.

Is it true or not, If yes or verifier that?

Why do Democrats not understand the wealthy keep the rest of us employed?
Question:
Now, I was under the impression, because I listened to Senator Obama during the campaign, that he's only going to raise taxes on the rich, 'cause they've got it. They don't need it. They have more than they need. They can afford it. So he needs to raise taxes on the rich and cut taxes on the, quote, unquote, "middle class." So he wants economic recovery to bubble up from the bottom or whatever, which is very tough to do when you're at the bottom and you're broke. I don't know how you bubble anything up when you're broke, but that's not the point. I have a story here from AP-Obama, and it's about three Colorado ski resorts being "forced" to lay off workers. (gasping) It's from the Durango Herald. We read the Durango Herald every day here. It's part of our show prep rotation. (laughing) It might embarrass them so much they go out of business. "This ski season is shaping up to be the worst in years, said a Canadian ski-resort company that has announced it has laid off workers across a dozen resorts, including three in Colorado. Vancouver-based Intrawest Corp. hasn't said exactly how many workers it let go, but company officials say the weak economy is squeezing the ski business." Now, who is it that goes out to Colorado and skis? No, it's not the poor. The poor are working in the hotels. The poor are working in the restaurants, the, quote, unquote, poor. The poor are working at the ski resorts where the rich are not going because the economy is cutting into their disposable income and they think that they've got tax increases coming. "Colorado's Steamboat Ski & Resort, for example, is more than three hours by car from Denver. Because of that, most visitors fly in and stay several days, while smaller resorts closer to big cities have an easier time surviving a poor economy. 'They're not as dependent on out-of- state and international visitors,' Dave Belin, director at Boulder-based research firm RRC Associates, told the Rocky Mountain News. In a survey of skiers conducted online last month, RRC found that most skiers planned to ski as often as last year. But they planned to cut back in other ways -- on lodging, lessons and other extras such as traveling a long way to get to a ski mountain." See, I thought tax increases and other trivial income killers amounted to chump change to wealthy Americans. But this is what I told you, and this is the main reason I said we gotta support Senator McCain, in fact, because of his tax policy was right. Every time you hear Obama or some Democrat talking about raising taxes on the rich to help the little guy, it's the little guy that gets shafted, and this ski resort story is a classic example. So we have to take the wealthy down a notch or two. How could that hurt anybody? Why, that couldn't hurt anybody! We gotta take the wealthy down a notch or two. They give up a little chump change, Obama can spend it on welfare checks for those who don't pay income taxes, and life is good for everybody! Except raising taxes is not chump change to rich people. That was just Obama shooting his mouth off. It turns out when the wealthy are pummeled by bad economic news of any kind they pull back, too. Nothing is chump change, and so now they're going to visit ski resorts less. And when they, the people that pay the freight by going skiing go less or don't stay overnight in hotels and so forth the ski resorts, three of them owned by a Canadian firm, are laying off the little guy, the guy who's supposed to benefit from tax increases on the rich. END TRANSCRIPT Read the Background Material... • Durango Herald: Three Colorado Ski Resorts Forced to Lay Off Workers

Answer:
why anyone would post a transcript of something that the drug-addled Rush Limbaugh spouted as a legitimate thought is unbelievable to me. the man is a complete kook. but you knew that, and that's why you didn't include his name in your post. the middle class play a bigger role in the economy than the rich. when we have more, we spend more. when we spend more, we make more goods. the evidence of this is outside your window: the middle class is nearly dissolved, but the rich have more than ever... and the economy's in the tank.

Parents: Should there be an rules on this?
Question:
I posted something before about me getting my mom's car once its fixed. It broke down, something with the engine and so my mom got a durango. Once she gets her tax refund she is going to use it to fix the car and then it'll become mine. I'll be paying my own insurance and gas, the car will be in my name etc. Should I expect her to place rules on me driving the car? Or should I be rule free? And by rule free I don't mean her telling me no drinking and driving, I am going to be a cop, I already know not to. By rule free I mean: Being able to use the car whenever I want as long as I am paying my own gas. Being able to drive whoever and however many people I need to. I want to be able to go up to my mom and be like me and so and so are hanging out i'll be back later and just be able to take the car, without having to ask if I can use it. Knowing my mom I kinda feel like me and her are going to hit that wall when it comes to it. My mom is the kind of person that if she doesn't have to go out then she doesn't. Like if she doesn't absolutely NEED to run errands then she won't leave. She says she doesn't drive if she doesn't have to because the risk of getting into an accident. I am the kind of person who HAS to go out, I can't stay inside for too long it drives me batty. I go hang out with my friends every night. I feel like she isn't going to like me driving with people in the car. I feel like she is going to have a problem with me driving all the time. I feel like she is going to tell me when and where I can drive. (I expect to be able to drive to anywhere in colorado. My friends and I take frequent trips to the mall 15 minutes away, the town to the south of me which is 10 minutes away and to Boulder and Denver for concerts and mini road tripping, which im going to sound like a dork but the "road trips" are good honest fun. I just want to be able to drive anywhere I need to be able to drive. I want to be able to get a call from a friend and just inform her of my plans and go. Which I am already allowed to do, I can leave the house anytime I want without her permission but its always one of my friends driving and not me. What kind of rules would you place on me with the car? If any and why? Keep in mind I am nearly 21, I don't have a curfew as it is and most my driving would be local with the odd exception of going to the mall and visiting friends out of town. I forgot to add: I have been driving since I was 14/15. Mall parking lot and side street driving at 14. I can drive in all conditions. Just the other day my friend was rear ended in the snow storm we had and was taken to the hospital. He called my friend and I and we went to his crash and I had to drive his truck to the hospital and back to his house. And I need to practice driving A LOT because i'll be doing it 40 hours a week as a cop. I'm living at home which is why I asked. Most people on here will agree that even though I am 20 that I should have rules living here at home. I know someone is going to come up with something.

Answer:
You are an adult, the car will be in your name, you pay for it, no rules.
