Which lens should I buy for a Canon Eos 1100D?
Question:
Here is an idea of what projects i want to do with my camera. Traffic Homeless, homeless faces City view (panoramic and from roof tops of buildings) Police, police faces I want my pictures excellent, but at the same time not get close or too close to police officers, cars and homeless as they could be dangerous and they might take it personally (you never know), so of course i will be getting the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens, but i want one more so here is a list of ones i have picked out, now if you don't recommend any of these please recommend one from your own opinion. "note that I do not want to spend more than 135 euros on a lens" (prices are on the right) (euros). thanks EF 75-300mmf/4-5.6 III (93.00) Tamron AF 55-200mm / 4.0-5.6 Di II LD Macro + Bag & Tripod (122) Sigma AF 28-135/3.8-5.6 MACRO ASPHERICAL (99.00) OLYMPUS ZUIKO DIGITAL 40-150mm f/4-5,6 (99.00) Olympus EZ 40-150MM /3.5-4.6 (128) TAMRON LENS 80-210 mm f4,5-5,6 (105) TAMRON 55-200 4-5,6 Di II (109) Samyang 500mm Mirror F8.0 9 (122) Sigma AF 55-200F/4-5.6 DC (130)

Answer:
For pictures of traffic you'll definitely want a longer focal length lens like the EF 70-300 since the "compression effect" of the longer focal length makes any line of traffic more congested. If the lens you list doesn't have Canon's IS (Image Stabilization) you might consider investing in a good monopod or tripod. This will explain what the "compression effect" is and how to effectively use it: http://www.photographic.com/issue-5-choosing-and-using-len ses/1109_TELEPHOTO/ The 70-300mm will also give you a good working distance from subjects you'd prefer to be farther away from. Just learn how to best control the "compression effect". You really haven't listed a wide angle lens for your "city view (panoramic and from rooftops)" pictures. Your Canon 1100D has a 1.6x crop factor which causes the 28mm lens to have the same angle of view as a 45mm lens would on a 35mm film camera or full-frame DSLR. For what you want to do, in my opinion, a much shorter focal length such as 10mm or 12mm would be a better choice. Even the 18mm end of your 18-55mm zoom lens would be a better choice than the 28mm you listed. I suggest using a tripod to achieve the maximum image quality for pictures like your "city view" ones. If you plan on shooting these at night then a tripod is mandatory. I use and recommend this site for low light exposures: http://www.calculator.org/exposure.aspx I used the Scene "City skyline in distance, floodlit buildings" and ISO 200 for these: http://www.flickr.com/photos/drifter45h/4048051455/ f11, exposure of 30 seconds. http://www.flickr.com/photos/drifter45h/4048796836/ f11, exposure of 30 seconds. I did not know that Olympus made lenses for a Canon DSLR - the Olympus lenses are either 4/3 mount or Micro 4/3 mount and neither is compatible with your Canon EF/EF-S lens mount. I also suggest saving your money and not buying the 500mm mirror lens.

Answer:
I can second alot of the first answer said, in the city you can take the lightrail or bus, but getting from city to city may be a little tougher. There are a few travel and tour guides that may come in handy since you will be alone. Give them a call and inquire about getting a tour guide!

video done for canon promo?
Question:
Does anyone know of a video that was done by a well known director as a promo for a canon dslr camera that was supposedly on canon's site? It featured a song by Moby, I think, which is the real reason I want to find the video, a song that I've heard in many movies before. The video features a car, some flowers in the car, the director himself flying in a helicopter, a beautiful woman in a red dress... I know this is vague but if anyone could help me out that'd be great! Supposedly it was all shot in one weekend and features some really nice city skyline shots. thanks!

Answer:
here’s the music that was used: Reverie: Extreme Ways Reverie (Behind the Scenes): Horse & Carrot Both songs are by Moby on the album: 18.

Who will rent a car to a 20 year old around Colorado Springs airport?
Question:
I am 20, I am heading from RDU(airport in NC) to COS, I MUST have a ride for a day. I cant afford a taxi as the drive is an hour and a half to Canon City and at the end of the day an hour and a half back. I am wanting to spend under $100 total for 1 day car rental, that includes the gas(going straight there and back) and insurance as well as any fee for being a younger person. I need to be able to pick it up early in the morning around 6am but I will also need to be able to drop it off at the latest by 10pm. I am not in the military, I am not a member of any company, just an average joe. I dont know anyone in CO to drive me and this is strictly a quick business trip but I am on a time schedual. Any help would be great. Breezenet didnt help at all as I cannot even find the age option people keep refering to. I have a DL and a Debit Card along with insurance already. To first answer, I have a debit card is that not the same OR better? Most companies charge them the same way.

Answer:
Debit cards are not the same as Credit Cards. Rental car companies prefer credit card because if you damage the car or don't return it on time they can charge against your credit line. With a debit card they are limited to what you have in your account. Some car rental companies have started to accept debit cards but they usually require a large deposit upfront that they refund later. I doubt you will find any rental company that will rent to under 21. Some will charge an extra fee for between 21 and 25, but most require you to be 25. Taxi maybe your only option. You may also check on limo service. For longer trips it is sometimes cheaper than a taxi. Ask for towncar service.

Time lapse help - shutter speeds and intervals?
Question:
I want to make time lapse videos and I have been doing some experimenting but it has led me nowhere. I have an intervelometer (timer remote) and I use a Canon 550D (Rebel T2i) I want to make time lapses of the following: 1. Traffic lights...with cars going by and city lights flashing 2. Nature.... clouds going by mountains, sunsets and sunrise 3. People...everyday activities. cooking. large groups of people moving around I need to know what shutter speeds at which intervals will be best for these conditions. My timer remote interval goes as far down as 1 second.

Answer:
I'll give you some basic places to start for each of the three scenarios. It's up to you to try them and change them based on what effect you're going to. 1) Traffic lights: Longer shutter speeds are better here to capture the streaks of headlights instead of really choppy-looking movement. Try to get at least 1 second shutter speeds. A rather shorter interval is also better. I would say no more than 30 seconds between shots. Probably less. 2) Nature: Clouds will look smoother with shutter speeds that are 1/2 second or slower, but they don't look bad at faster shutter speeds as long as your interval isn't too long. There's a lot of range here, but I would say shoot for 1/2 second or slower shutter speed, and maybe 1-2 minutes between shots, depending on how fast you want them to move, how long you want the video to be, etc. 3) People: This is one where you can get two distinct effects by using different shutter speeds. A fast shutter will give you a little bit of a choppier video, but it's easier to tell what's going on with the people when they're frozen instead of streaks. The interval could be pretty short as well. something like 5-10 seconds or so. These are just suggestions; again you'll have to experiment to find what works for you. The lats piece of advice I can give you is this: shoot low-res JPGs instead of RAWs or something, keep EVERYTHING manual, including exposure, white-balance, and focus. Good luck!

How much should I charge?
Question:
A Realtor wants me to take pictures of the houses he is selling. I am currently in High School and don't have any expenses such as bills except Gas for my car. I own a Canon 30D with a Tamron 10-24mm lens. I have more lenses but I won't use them for real estate. I own a Canon 430EX Speedlite, A aftermarket speedlite, and an translucent umbrella for diffusing. I usually shoot real estate photos in HDR but sometimes I use the Umbrella and speedlite to light up the room. He sells houses in the city that I live in and the surrounding cities. Longest drive is probably 30 minutes. In the past a realtor paid me for shooting a house that was selling for $900,000 and he gets 6% of it so he earns $54,000 minus taxes. He paid me $200 and that was his price. The new Realtor that wants to hire me is selling houses from $60,000- $800,000. I am not a professional but I have experiences with professionals and I've done my research and practiced. So I am wondering what I should charge. Thanks!

Answer:
I am really glad you are carefully considering all of this. One thing to know about real estate commissions is that the buying and selling agent split the 6% fee, and then the agent splits that with their agency. So even on a million dollar property, the company is only getting abut $15,000. It still is a lot, but not close to $50k. First, you should consider charging by the shot/room. This works because more expensive houses tend to have more rooms and agents will want more shots. It also works because more shots mean more time. $25-$50 per room/shot is a good place to start. A ten room mansion might net you $250-$500, while a smaller 4 room house will get you $100-$200. That way you have a reason to charge what you do for each place. That better than trying to renegotiate each time they want you to shoot a house. You should also look at doing discounts for them if they use your services a lot. Maybe offer them a 10% discount if they book you for five properties and a 20% discount if they hire you to do 20 properties or more.

Where can I drop my 10 ' sailboat into the water in downtown Charleston, SC?
Question:
I am moving to Charleston, SC and trying to lie as close to downtown (south of Calhoun) as possible, but we will likely be a little north of Canon. I own a small 10' sailboat and I plan to keep it in a garage, driveway, or backyard unless I can find an affordable place to store it near a drop spot. My MAIN question is where can I drive my boat to take it out for a few hours and then park my car and trailer while I am sailing? My other questions are 1) Are the neighborhoods just north of Canon relatively safe? Ideally we will have a small yard for my boat. and 2) Is there an affordable storage place (like storage units) near a boat drop in the city? Thank you in advance for any and all advice.

Answer:
I'd recommend that you contact one of the Yacht Clubs or marinas along Lockwood Blvd/ Drive. They might have a Dingy dock/ typically $400 a year. Where you pull the boat up on a floating dock. Then Storage, trailer and parking are all solved.......As for "relatively safe" yes, it's more than relatively safe, I'd say most of the city is (note: no qualifiers) safe.
