What are the light regulations for cars in missouri? Question: I have a 20" red led tube in my rear window, a red led under body kit (which I know you can't have on going down the road) and I have muffler tips that have red led's in them, I was wondering if I was going to get a ticket for this? It was my understanding that white and amber lights were allowed in the front and on the side and red was allowed in the back, but my husband says otherwise. I cannot find a place online that has the laws laid out for missouri (or any other state for that matter). I really thought that the led tube and the tips would be legal. Thanks in advance. I also have xenon headlights in my high and low beams, are these illegal also? They are white, they are just VERY bright. Answer: The red LED's should be OK as long as they are rear facing and don't flash, blink, chase, or have any other "moving" function while on (other than if being used for a turn signal, of course). But best to ask a proper law enforcement official to be sure, ask a uniformed officer the next time you see one or call the police department and ask. The headlights are illegal if over the factory wattage, but if they are factory wattages for high and low beams, then they should also be OK. The wattage should be stamped on the base of the bulb (the plastic portion), especially if it is over the normal ratings. To find the normal ratings, find what kind of bulb you have (like a 9004) and do a search for it on the internet. Most factory bulbs are 60 watts for high beam, and 55 for low beams, though some are different. The headlights aren't as likely to get you pulled over and ticketed unless they're so bright that people regularly think you're bright lighting them as they come at you. |

Is it illegal to photograph illegally parked cars in the state of Missouri? Answer: Missouri has no specific statute that provides for a criminal penalty for any person recording an image of an illegally parked car, anywhere, anytime, under any circumstances, regardless of what is done with the picture. Thus if there is an accident and someone runs into an illegally parked car, investigators may not take a photo of the accident scene. I am absolutely certain that is not what you wanted to know, but that is what you asked. |

I live in Missouri and I moved out in April, do I still need to pay property tax for my cars? Question: I received a bill for asking me to pay $550 tax for my cars but I moved out of MO in April, do I really need to pay it? Answer: Yes, you do! You have to pay the personal property tax on any vehicles owned by you in the state of MO as of 1/1 of any year. If you moved out on 1/2, you'd still owe the tax in December. (And MO will go after you for the taxes due!) Must be a troll that gave this a thumbs down. Read the return you filed in February or March that listed your taxable personal property. It explains it all right there in the instructions! Taxable property in your possession within the state of MO on January 1st is taxed. Tax bills are prepared and mailed out the following November or December and are due and payable no later than December 31st. Even if you do not receive a bill, you are legally obligated for the tax. If it isn't paid by December 31st, penalties will accrue as of January 1st. |

I moved to a different county in Missouri. How do I set it up to pay my property tax for my cars? Question: I need to switch things from my old Jackson county property tax address to my new Miller county address. Answer: You'll pay the tax to Jackson County for 2009. The tax is assessed by the county where the vehicle was garaged on Jan 1st. Stop by the tax collectors office in Miller County and give them your details. They can probably give you a 2010 assessment form and complete it on-the-spot. If the 2010 forms are not ready yet, they'll add you to the mailing list and send you the form shortly after the new year. Be sure to return it by the deadline (Mar 15?) to avoid penalties for late assessment. If you get an assessment form from Jackson County, send it back uncompleted with a note that you have moved to Miller County. This isn't strictly necessary but will help them keep their records up-to-date. |
