What is the law concerning "Classic" cars and emissions in Colorado?
Question:
Im doing a frame off restoration on a 64 Impala. Original engine and transmission are gone, New engine and transmission are from a 2002 Camaro Z28. I want to make sure I am following all emission control laws. Although it is a 1964, the engine and transmission are newer. I would have liked to keep the original engine and transmission, However they were already gone when I purchased this car 3 years ago. Your responses are greatly appreciated.

Answer:
Not sure about CO. but as far as every other state I've lived in you won't have problems. Keep it registered as '64 and don't say anything about the motor changeout if you have to get an emmissions test.

I sometimes see cars with Hawaiian licence plates in Colorado. How do they get here?
Question:
They aren't nice cars either, just ordinary cars. Did these people really pay a bunch of money to have their cars ferried across the Pacific? Or is there some strange DMV thing that allows them to keep their Hawaii plates due to residency?

Answer:
Especially if they're "ordinary" cars, they're likely military who had them shipped for them, and they're presumably not staying permanently, so may not need to have them changed (or at least not right away). You'll occasionally see random plates from the mainland show up in Hawaii, and though people from the mainland ship their cars out as well, if it's in an unusual location or "ordinary," etc., it's almost always a military thing coming into Hawaii as well.

Can I sell cars in Colorado if I have a felony from 4 years ago. I doesn't involve theft, drugs, or violence?
Question:
I would like to work as a car salesman but am worried that this felony will prevent me from doing so.

Answer:
It will depend upon the dealer. As a practical matter, almost all employers refuse to hire convicted felons. Exceptions are trades like roofing, concrete work, paving, and painting. Things like that. I don't usually recommend something like this but if telling the truth doesn't work for you, you might try lying and seeing if the employer actually bothers to check up on you. If, as part of your job, you have to be bonded then the bonding company is very, very likely to conduct the background check and you should just skip it. Good luck. I know from experience that it's a tough spot to be in.

how many cars per year can you sell in colorado?
Question:
without a dealer's license, how many vehicles can be bought (out-of-state) and sold in Colorado per year?

Answer:
If I were you I'd call the department of motor vehicles. The local office should be able to answer that. If they can't, you might want to write an email to the state, which you should here back from in a day or two. I think it's 5 in a lot of states, but I could be wrong.

When applying for a used car dealers license in Colorado can I use my home address?
Question:
I am thinking about starting the application process for a car dealer license. I want to sale used cars in Colorado that I will buy from auctions. Is a lot a necessity or can I sell the cars from my house.

Answer:
NO-NOT AT ALL I am a dealer in Colorado and what you want to do is against the law. If you even have the intent to make a profit you need a dealers license (will provide law in a second) then you will have to have a retail location, and their are many rules about that including bathroom. must be paved, insured, and it goes and on. Must have $100,000 in assets. Source: Colorado Statutes/TITLE 12 PROFESSIONS AND OCCUPATIONS/GENERAL/ARTICLE 6 AUTOMOBILES/PART 1 AUTOMOBILE DEALERS/12-6-102. Definitions. 12-6-102. Definitions. Need help finding the right convertible car for Colorado?
Question:
I'm new to the world of convertible cars, but I'm hoping to find one that will balance getting me to work everyday with having fun drives in the mountains on weekends. I am looking for a: Hardtop - It must be able to survive Colorado winters Front Wheel Drive - Must handle OK on snow packed roads Four Seater Affordable - Price range max is $30K Reliable Any comments or suggestions on which cars to consider will be most appreciated!

Answer:
4 seater + Hardtop really narrows it down. You do NOT need FWD for snow. The tires are more important than which wheels are driven. Real snow tires, preferably with studs. There is no such thing as an all-season tire. To my knowledge, the only 4 seat hard-top (or removable hard top) FWD convertibles available in the US are: Pontiac G6 2006+ Volvo C70 Volkswagen Eos The C70 starts at around 40k, so you'd have to go used for that one, and even then it would only JUST be hitting your price range. Also, VW had about 10 years of ABYSMAL reliability, and they've yet to fully prove that it's over. Of those, if you want new, I say G6. If you are willing to go used, I say C70. Your other option is a Jeep Wrangler (or an old Bronco or Blazer or Landcruiser, and I think the International Scout may have had a removable hard top). Oh, and now is exactly the WRONG time of year to buy a convertible, if you want to get a good price. Summer is coming on and people are thinking "man, a convertible would be nice!" If you want a deal, buy one in winter.

im thinking of buyin a car from utah but i want to know if it will cost me to put it under colorado cars?
Question:
buying a car

Answer:
Your question is not clear, but from a taxes and registration perspective it won't matter which state you buy the car in. You pay taxes and fees based on where you live, not where you purchase the car. Support your local economy if you can.
