Has anybody noticed that there are SO MANY Arizona cars here in California since yesterday? Question: Since yesterday, I have been seeing SO MANY Arizona cars roaming the streets it's not even funny! I felt like I was in North Carolina seeing so many California cars. Are they running away from SB1070 or what? Obviousman - Actually, we get so many Bakos coming to Pismo Beach. I find it so weird that all these Arizona people started coming yesterday (on the day before SB1070 was to pass.) Answer: We call them zonies, they visit by the thousands every summer to get away from extreme heat, if you go to Coronado island it's even worse, they invade the town, but hey I guess they contribute to better SD's economy. |

Do cars in California come with different emission equipment than cars in other states.? Question: I live in Texas, I am looking at buying a SUV that was originally sold and titled in California. I have heard that cars that are originally sold in California have different emissions equipment than any other state and that the equipment can actually cause you to get worse gas mileage and add to future repair bills, is this true? Answer: Yes, it is true they have additional equipment. I haven't heard anything about it causing worse gas mileage, and think that would actually defeat much of the purpose! The should be running cleaner and more efficiently if anything. If you even have an emissions test in Texas, it *could* make it harder to pass, depending on what your test involved, but I really doubt it's worth worrying about. |

What happened to the electric cars in California? Question: They seemed like they were really pushing and fighting to get some electric cars going in california back in 2001 or so. What happened? Did the federal govt stop it or something? why? yeah I am sure they were not perfect back then, but imagine what advancements could have been made in 7 years of building more and more of them? Who killed this idea? why was the electric car killed? by whom? why? details please. Answer: Electric cars were part of the goals for a certain percentage of Zero Emission Vehicles or Ultra Low Emission Vehicles....I'm never sure which category they belong to. The state had a fixed goal of a certain percentage of each. Technology did not seem to be keeping up, and the broad appeal of Hybrids meant the state was substantially meeting its goals of reducing greenhouse gases from vehicles. btw calling electric vehicles ZEV's is a bit of a misnomer since we simply move the emissions from the tailpipe to the smokestack of the electric generating plant. |

Why am I seeing more out-of-state cars in California? Question: In this time of recession? Isn't California more expensive than from where you came? A few years ago it would be rare to see 2 cars with out-of-state plates in one day. Today I would say I saw about 15, and that's probably the average from the past weeks. Answer: A lot of people who would normally go on an international trip are staying in the U.S. and vacationing in the warmer states instead and they're saving money by driving and not flying here as well. |

Taxing people who own hybrid Cars in California? Question: I have heard on and off that California is thinking about taxing people who own Hybrid Cars. Since people are not buying enough Gas and the Govn't has to come up with new ways to make money. I seen and heared this Statement from couple of people. Can anyone tell me where I can find an article on this, Taxing people who own Hybrid Cars. I know that there is incentive but not a tax on owning one. Answer: Just another example of how insane our government is. Shouldn't the state of California be giving hybrids TAX BREAKS instead of tax increases since they're more fuel efficient? The Republican party strikes again! It's so discouraging! Tax those Hummers and 1000 sq.ft. Homes-on-Wheels to the point of bankruptcy! Their ego inflated owners need to be either taxed or shamed off the roads! That's my answer to the problem. |
