Behind the Wheel Test at DMV in Torrance, California (Insurnace Question.)?
Question:
I'm 23 years old and going for my Behind the Wheel test at the Hawthorne DMV in Torrance on Monday. My question pertains to that of needing insurance. What I wanted to know is do I (as the person who is going to be taking the test. Right now I have no insurance on myself whatsoever.) need to have any type of insurance before I take the test, or does the car itself have to be insured? Right now my mother wont let me use her car for this test, but a friend of mines who is insured is letting me use his (he'll be going with me when I go to take it. What I wanted to know, would this be enough to allow me to take the test, or do I literally need to be under the vehicle insurance to be able to use the car for the test itself? I was looking at the question posted here http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=2006073022263 3AAhHm3Q And it seems that as long as the vehicle is insured, then there is no problem, but I wanted to get it all cleared regardless. Thanks to whoever can answer

Answer:
You would be fine. Only the car needs to be insured, with the vin number showing on the insurance. Just double check that it is current (people come in all the time with outdated insurance without realizing it). Good luck on your test!

What are the common penalties for a speeding ticket?
Question:
Im 16 and ive had my lisence for about 6 months and i already got a speeding ticket. I had minors in the car and it was at 1am, so it was past curfue. I have to go to traffic court in about a month and i want to know what will the judge most likely do. Such as take away my lisence, fine me, or give me a warning etc. p.s. I leave in california near torrance

Answer:
Typically you receive a traffic citation which does affect your license by going on your state record. There is also a fee to pay (Average is between $125 - 200) although this generally depends where you live though. If you reach the quota of three tickets, then you may get your licensed suspended.

what does this code mean 22349(c)vc?
Question:
I recently got a ticket but i don't know what this code means. The officer said that he had been on the "HOV" for a while and that i didn't slow down when i saw him. Can someone explain to me what HOV means. I'm possitive that I was going no more than 68mph because i had just barely gotten on the freeway and i was trying to get in the carpool lane. By the way, i live in southern california. Torrance to be exact. The officer said that i was going past 75 mph. I know this is not true because the freeway was packed but the cars on my sides were passing me. I was the one being passed and I was the one who got a ticket. Is there any way i can fight this ticket. I know i was not speeding. Please help. Thanks! Also, Does anyone know how much this ticket might cost me?

Answer:
Here is your violation: ---------- 22349. (a) Except as provided in Section 22356, no person may drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than 65 miles per hour. (b) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no person may drive a vehicle upon a two-lane, undivided highway at a speed greater than 55 miles per hour unless that highway, or portion thereof, has been posted for a higher speed by the Department of Transportation or appropriate local agency upon the basis of an engineering and traffic survey. For purposes of this subdivision, the following apply: (1) A two-lane, undivided highway is a highway with not more than one through lane of travel in each direction. (2) Passing lanes may not be considered when determining the number of through lanes. (c) It is the intent of the Legislature that there be reasonable signing on affected two-lane, undivided highways described in subdivision (b) in continuing the 55 miles-per-hour speed limit, including placing signs at county boundaries to the extent possible, and at other appropriate locations. ---------- Whether you can beat the charge or not depends on the facts. If it is your word against the officer's, you might try traffic school. If you have a lot of time and effort to do the research there are books out there that can teach you what to do to try and beat a traffic ticket at court, but these tend to do little more than tick off a judge. You might consider a trial by declaration first. if you lose, then you can always appeal and ask for a Trial De Novo (new trial) and get another shot - this time before a judge. Also, "HOV" is "High Occupancy Vehicle" and these lanes are the commuter, or "diamond" lanes. - Carl

I got 2 traffic tickets within 2 weeks of each other. How much?
Question:
I am 17 years old. The first one i was cited for going 54 in a 35 zone in Torrance California. The second one was for going 42 in a 25 zone in also Torrance California but this time i was carrying two other passengers in the car. Keep in mind i haven't had my license for a year so i also got tickets for carrying two passengers. Does anyone know how much each of them will cost me? Also about the traffic school, is there a age requirement in order to do traffic school online? And is there anyway to get the other point off too that i cant get off with traffic school?(Alternative Punishments) Thank you for taking time to look at and answer my question.

Answer:
The two speeding tickets are going to be 1 point each. Having two friends in the vehicle will be another ticket, plus more points. Add to the fact that you have had your license for less than a year, the judge will come down more harshly on you because it looks to him as if you have no respect for the law. More than likely, your license will be suspended. As you acquire points, you place yourself in danger of losing your driver's license. The DMV has the right to suspend or revoke your driving privileges if you accumulate a certain number of points over a set period of time. Four points within a 12-month period Six points in a 24-month period Eight points in a 36-month period Contrary to popular thought, driving records are not automatically cleared of all points once the points are over a year old. A 1 point offence stays on the record for 3 years. When you get your license back, your insurance is going to be VERY high because of the past tickets and suspension. Traffic School Some traffic tickets can be resolved by attending traffic school. You may then have the option of attending traffic school to erase the points on your license. Many are even offered online. You will be charged a traffic school fee, which is usually the same amount as the fine would be. Then, submit your completion certificate to the court. If you're usually ticket-free, the points shouldn't even show up on your record. If you had a more serious infraction (a two-point infraction), you won't be able to take traffic school to dismiss the charges. You can only take traffic school once per 18 months, so, you will not be off the hook for everything, IF the judge allows you to take traffic school in the first place.

I was checking this car report in the Carfax, and this is what I get. Is there any fault in the car odometer?
Question:
01/17/2008 45,700 California Motor Vehicle Dept. Garden Grove, CA Title issued or updated New owner reported 02/08/2008 71,250 Mercedes-Benz of South Bay Torrance, CA 310-534-3333 www.sbbenz.com Vehicle offered for sale I do see a difference of 26000 milegae on the car in 20 days? The dealer says that it is an error in the typo? Can that be correct?

Answer:
Errors are made by people all the time on carfax. Daily!!!! Carfax is only a guide and not the law. You have dealers, insurance companies, body shops, emmissions stations and many other reporting miles, and 1 typo creates a big problem. I am sure the dealer will follow the law under federal odometer law, title 49 part 580. A duplicate title could have been printed on 01/17/2008 that would have read previous miles.

read my story/analyze my character?
Question:
ok this is chapter 1. here goes: Okay, so I always knew I had a twin. I don’t remember her that well, since our parents split when we were only five years old. She went to live with our dad, and I stayed with Mom. What is her name, you ask? It’s Sarah. Sydney and Sarah. Supposedly we were inseparable, from what my mom told me. Well, when my parents divorced, my dad stayed here in the wonderful state of California, though I have no idea where. He could be here in Torrance, or up in Big Bear for all I know. I mean, my mom didn’t want any contact with him, so I don’t see him often, though he calls and sends me letters, Especially on my birthday, when he would call and put my sister on, and we would chat for a couple hours. Gradually, it seemed, though, that Sarah was forced into talking to me. On my eleventh birthday, all she talked about was herself, and what she got, and the rad party going on downstairs, which she was being separated from because she had to talk to me. On my twelfth birthday, I actually heard her complaining with my dad on the other end of the line. I guess Dad thought he had put me on mute, but I heard it all. This is roughly how the dialogue went: Dad: “Sarah! Come talk to your sister.” Sarah’s footsteps coming closer. Sarah: “Tell her I’m sick.” Dad: “What?! No! Come here and wish her a happy birthday!” Sarah: “I don’t want to!” Dad: “I’m not asking you, I’m telling you!” Sarah: “But she is such a dork. Do you know what she talked about last year? Her Snapple cap collection! How lame is that?” I was upset when I heard that. I worked hard on that collection! Dad: “I don’t care! She’s your sister and she is waiting for you to pick up the phone! Now do as I say!” Then Sarah sighed heavily, and on the receiver I heard a nonchalant “Hello?” “Hi, Sarah?” “Yeah.” I heard Dad in the background whisper something like, “Wish her a happy birthday.” “Happy birthday,” Sarah choked out the words. Somehow I got the feeling she preferred being an only child. The next year, I didn’t get to talk to my sister, but it was better than being called a dork, so I didn’t mind so much. But back to the present. It is Tuesday morning, and I am running across the street, narrowly missed by a passing car. The driver honks the horn and I yell out “CRAP!” Damn my alarm clock for being faulty and going off in p.m. instead of a.m. Well, I have a car, but the afternoon when my mom is hopefully able to pick it up, it’s at the mechanics. Who knew not having working taillights was such a bad thing? And what a coincidence that my mom just had to go to work super early (she’s an E.R. nurse) and told me school was in twenty minutes, and I had to walk, only I was half asleep so it’s not like I was paying attention. I enter the front door of the school as the late bell rings, and see a few kids dashing to class. Oh shoot oh shoot oh shoot! Man this is not my day! I run down the hallway, up the stairs, desperate to get to homeroom. Why does it have to be on the other freaking side of the school? I fling open the classroom door just as the final bell rings. “Late!” a boy named Ryan shouts. “Not late!” Lillian shouts back. “Sorry,” I give Ms. Kissinger an apologetic smile. She just purses her lips and gives a tight nod of her head. That is how she usually greets people who are late to her class. I should know. This isn’t the first time I didn’t wake up on time. I take a seat in the second row, next to Lillian and in front of Ryan. “You just love to get me in trouble, don’t you?” I hiss over my shoulder as morning announcements start on the speaker system. Ryan puts his hands behind his head and leans back, rocking his chair. “What can I say? It’s my job.” he shoots me one of his lopsided grins and I roll my eyes. “I hope you fall back and fart while doing it!” Lillian whispers to him. “Eliminate the farting thing! I’m sitting right here!” I tell her, my eyes big. “Oh, right,” she looks back at Ryan. “I hope you fall out of your chair and don’t fart while doing it!” I laugh. Lillian is my best friend. She has been since freshman year, and we’re juniors now. She was there when I faced the wrath of evil Jasmine, but I’ll fill you in on that later. Lillian is short and chubby. She’s not fat, just chubby enough to be called cute several times by parents. It really bugs her, which is probably why last summer she chopped her long brown hair into a rockin’ pixie cut. Her parental figures were not pleased with her new ‘do, but Lillian didn’t care. She even tried blue contacts, but they were annoying her too much, and she decided to stick with her natural brown. Ryan has been my “friend” since sixth grade. We have a love/hate relationship going on. You see, in public we pick on each other and damn can he be annoying! Not to mention he has tons of embarrassing stories from when we were in junior high. However, after a day of insults, he will call me, if I don’t call him first, and we can ta Yeah, they are 16 and juniors in high school talk for hours about random and funny stuff. Right now Ryan is in “annoying mode”. I look around the room and my eyes land on Jasmine Quibbler (great that we share a last name, which is really odd, don’t get me wrong. I mean, how many Quibblers do you know?!). She sneers at me, and rolls her eyes. I give her a tight smile in response. Gosh I hate her. Well since it’s later, I can tell you what happened that fateful day we met. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was a freshman, walking through the halls of this new, unknown school. I was just walking, and not watching where I was going. So naturally instead of bumping into a kind, forgiving person, I bumped into one of the snobbiest girls in the school. “Watch where you’re going, creep!” she pushed me back, and I hit a nearby pole (which I’m surprised I didn’t run into first). Ah those sweet first words. “So-rry!” I scoffed. I rubbed my shoulder, where I had been hit hardest by the pole. “Gosh, people are just so intol intolerable these days!” she told her friends, as threw up her hands dramatically. “Uh, I’m right here!” I snapped. She peered toward me, looked me up and down, and snickered. “Don’t even talk to me!” before turning back to her friends. “ARGH!!!” I had screeched. I wanted to pull all that blonde hair from her head. “We all agree, the fact that she, is such a Bee…” I heard somebody sing behind me. It had been Lillian, though I didn’t know her name at the time. “Are you okay?” she asked, putting her hand on my shoulder. “Yeah.” I replied. “I like your song.” Since we were freshmen even the lamest songs sounded funny to us. She smiled. “I made it up on the spot.” I stuck out my hand. “I’m Sydney, not Sid.” She shook it. “I’m Lillian, not Lilly.” she replied, grinning. Best friends since. And that Blonde Bee has hated me since. So can you blame me for having an eternal grudge against Jasmine? everything got cut off...i didnt notice how long this is

Answer:
wow, that's pretty good. But a few small things I would change would be when Sarah is talking to their dad on the other end of the line, instead of saying "Sara:" Dad:" etc. I would write it like '"Sarah, come talk to your sister' my dad said, and "'I don't want to!' Sarah hissed ect. ect. ect. it's easier to read. And I would include Sydney's age maybe before she talks about her past. But if it's too difficult, say it after her "flashback" or whatever you want to call it. Hope it helps! :)
