What is the best way to get from Malibu to Santa Barbara...without a car?
Question:
So, in the fall, I will be attending Pepperdine University in Malibu, and my girlfriend already attends UC Santa Barbara. I'm hoping to have a car next year, but there is still a strong possibility that I might not. I was wondering what would be the best way to get from the Malibu area to the Santa Barbara area using trains, buses, or any kind of transportation. I know there are no amtrak stations in Malibu, so how could I get to, say, the Moorpark or Chatsworth or even Union Station? Any kind of advice would be helpful. Thank You.

Answer:
From Santa Monica, you can take bus line 33 up on Ocean Blvd near Pico and take it all the way downtown to Union Station, and then catch the train to Santa Barbara. Once you're on the bus, it'll probably be about an hour or so to Downtown ... and I'm not sure whether you could get to Moorpark or Chatsworth and actually be on a train in any less time than that. Another option may be to find a way to Oxnard (there's got to be a train stop in Oxnard). If you're going to be living in LA, you really should get a car, hon. There's no way that you'll want to be dependent on public transportation from Malibu to wherever. Live on mac 'n cheese for a year if it means that you end up with a car that you can drive while you're here. Best of luck !!

Should i bring my car to Santa Barbara/Ventura California?
Question:
Im moving to Ventura or Santa Barbara for college in October. I really need money. So i was thinking of selling my car. But what am i gonna do about transportation in Ventura? Whats the cheapest way of public transportation in those 2 cities; Bus, taxi,or purchase a moped?

Answer:

Things to do in Santa Barbara without a car?
Question:
Taking the train up to Santa Barbara - when we get there we will have no car. I did it about 15 years ago and remember the beach and shops are walking distance. Got kids now - is the zoo within walking distance? the mission?

Answer:
The Mission is on Laguna Street so you can walk to it, or take the shuttle. The Santa Barbara Zoo is located on Ninos Drive. You'd want to take the Downtonwn/Waterfront shuttle to the zoo. I provided a link for you so you can get an idea where to get the shuttle. To get to the zoo: http://www.sbmtd.gov/Lines/Line_Downtown.htm To get to the mission: http://www.sbmtd.gov/Lines/Line_22.htm

Is it illegal to sleep in your car in Santa Barbara?
Question:
I have a home. I know in Venice Beach there is a homeless problem. It is absurd and I can't hang around in that scene at all. I must return to my quiet home on the range. But I do like the freedom to rest for a while sometimes after driving. I see mailmen and UPS guys taking a little cat-nap sometimes. In LA its too hot. However I don't want to run afoul of the law.

Answer:
In SB there is an ordinance against sleeping in your car, unless in designated areas. Tickets and/or fines include loitering and parking violations. There are actually 12 or more parking lots in Santa Barbara open to people who want to sleep in their cars. Free and is put on by "New Beginnings Counseling Center," and you can sleep here without interruption. Usually it just really depends on where you find your spot. I used to work weird hours, getting off work at 2AM and had to drive an hour home. At times I pulled off the 5 FWY in Burbank, SF Valley and found a quiet street to take a nap until I felt I could drive home. Sometimes I'd find a 24 hour grocery store parking lot. I was never bothered by police or people. Doesn't mean that it was legal, but I would look for signs and park somewhere without time limits, no stopping, or no other restrictions. Good luck. Hope this info helped!

How about any known auction locations in Santa Barbara, California? Thanks for the help!

What can I do in Santa Barbara with 2 kids and no car?
Question:
We are taking the Amtrak train up to Santa Barbara, so we will have no car. We will be there all day. I have 2 children ages 7 and 10. What is there to do in Santa Barbara that kids will enjoy and doesn't involve a car? The weather is supposed to be in the 70's and sunny. Any suggestions?

I understand at the Amtrak station, there is a shuttle boat that can take you over to the Santa Barbara Zoo. They are little boats (tender boats). Good luck.
