Questions Related to san, mateo cars

Provided By Y! Answers

Does anyone know the san mateo county rules for how many cars a house is allowed to park on the street?
Question:
I have this neighbor who has a minimum of six cars. She parks two in her drive way and parks all the rest in front of other people's homes. She has left her car parked in front of our house for 2 weeks and made sure we can't park behind it. I thought a car can't stay in one place for more than 72 hours?

Answer:
you need to call a tow truck or parking enforcement.

What is the easiest way to get from San Mateo to San Francisco?
Question:
I'll be staying in San Mateo for awhile. I do have access to a car, but I've heard that parking can be a nightmare in San Francisco itself. Is a car still the best way despite that, or are there trains/buses/etc that would be easier?

Answer:
I can't believe how many people that told you to take BART, BART does not go to San Mateo, Caltrain does, and is very accessable from most places in San Mateo. You can transfer to BART once you get to Millbrae from Caltrain, and depending on where you're going in SF, you may not need to. Otherwise, it's a short and easy drive to SF from San Mateo, straight up highway 101. Parking is sometimes not too bad, depending on where you're going, there are many city-owned parking garages that charge reasonable rates, but be careful of privately owned parking lots, they can be very expensive. Once you get there, most of San Francisco is not that easy to get around on public transportation, and if you able to find parking, a car would be best.

What would be ways of public transportation from San Mateo, CA to California State University East Bay Campus?
Question:
I am going to be moving there for a while and live with my aunt. She is in San Mateo. I don't think I would have a car and the MORE convenient way around would be by public transportation. Does anyone know if this is do-able all the way through, by public transportation from San Mateo to California State University - East Bay (which is in Hayward)?

Answer:
No, it is not possible. It would take a couple of hours of switching around different types of transportation to get there. You need a car if you are going to do that. San Mateo is on the opposite side of San Francisco bay and the traffic is heavy and you have to cross a toll bridge. If you are staying in San Mateo you might consider San Francisco State instead of Cal State East Bay, which has no reputation anyway.

How to find a cheap hotel in San Fransisco CA area (San Mateo specifically)?
Question:
Hey guys, How can I find a cheap hotel close to San Mateo? I have booked my flight and rental car from downtown area (much cheaper than car from airport). but now I do not know how to get the best deal for hotel. It would be great if there is a shuttle to the hotel which can take me also to downtown area to get my rental car. Any suggestions guys? The zipcode is 94404 btw... sorry for the mis-spelling : San Francisco :(

Answer:
there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. just go here: http://bookme.com/mndd89.php and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it's very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online... otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

CAR ALARM REPAIR in SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA?
Question:
Can anyone recommend a good place to take a vehicle for car alarm repairs? Vehicle is a 1995 Ford/Explorer.

Answer:
If it's a factory alarm I suggest you go to Bestbuy and get a new one.. I think it would be cheaper & maybe get a few extra features like auto start.. You can get a nice system installed for around 125.00 to 200.00. Good luck!

How safe is the San Mateo Bridge in California?
Question:
I get scared whenever we pass through this bridge. I wonder how fast help would come if ever there's an accident, say the worst one, when a car falls into the sea. Does it utilize a technology that can detect irregularities (like accidents) to save lives? Thanks, Nostrum. Flower, you seem to know everything, huh!

Answer:
car can't fall into the sea. the worst is that you'll get stuck for several hours when there's a breakdown .. this happens a bunch of times a month. it's earthquake-safe. the only way the bridge is coming apart is if a big, big plane crashes into it, and even then maybe not.

What is the best way to get from San Mateo to AT&T Park?
Question:
We'd like to go to some baseball games, both day and night. We do have access to a car if we need it, but we're not sure if public transit would be better. So, what do you think is the better method, car or public transit? Please consider travel time, hassle, and cost. Thanks!

Answer:
all the posters are correct. Caltrain is the easiest and cheapest way. The last stop for Caltrain in SF is either right across the street or 1 block away from AT&T Park. If you drive, it would be about 30 minutes (including traffic). You would take 101 North onto 280 and where 280 stops, you drive about 3 blocks and AT&T Park is right there. I believe the 3rd Street parking lot which is a block away from the park is like $25.

Which Town Should We Choose?: San Mateo, Redwood City, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, San Jose?
Question:
Hi, I'd REALLY appreciate your advice on which community my wife and I should live in. The choices are: San Mateo, Redwood City, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, & San Jose. We'll be moving there in about a month. My new job is in San Jose. We're in our mid/late-twenties. We prefer to live in an apartment or condo, hopefully with some nearby cafes, restaurants, shops, nightlife, etc. It seems like all of these towns sort of blend together in one big urban sprawl, but ideally we'd be in an area that feels like a real distinct community with its own character and scene. By the way, Palo Alto would be on this list too, but it appears to be too expensive (I need to keep our one-bedroom apartment well under $2K/month). I disincluded a few other Silicon Valley towns because they aren't on the Caltrain line. (An important criterion for us is to have a Caltrain stop within walking distance, because my wife doesn't have a car yet.) THANK YOU FOR ANY ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE!

Answer:
For your needs, I recommend Mountain View, especially if you can get within walking distance of Castro Street, anywhere between Central and El Camino. TONS of restaurants, a bookstore or two (though it's not the same without Printers Inc.), a brewpub, and the Caltrain station. It's the closest of the cities you mention to San Jose with the least feeling of suburban sprawl. That being said... I lived in Sunnyvale for 12 years, but I was solving for a different set of needs than you are. The downtown center of Sunnyvale is lovely, but very small -- Murphy Avenue is only a block long (they tore down the rest when they built the mall in the Seventies), but it's a restored piece of early-1900s architecture, and there is (or was when we lived there) a farmer's market there on summer weekends. Sunnyvale is also a good 10-20 minutes closer to San Jose than Mt. View is, and has a charming Caltrain station of its own. (Caltrain is the only reasonable way to get from that part of the Peninsula to San Francisco, and I've used it to get from Sunnyvale to San Jose as well. And I'm a car freak... it's just that I'd much rather drive a 35-year-old Alfa Romeo along Highway 84 to San Gregorio or Stage Road through Pescadero than along Hwy 280 in stop-and-go traffic.) As for Palo Alto, you're right about the cost, but for a visit it's only a short hop (either by car or train) from Castro Street in Mt. View to University Avenue in Palo Alto, and that's a happening place -- I was there last week (I work for a company based in Mt. View but I live just outside Portland, Oregon). They still have the old Stanford Theater, I understand, which dates back to the silent era and has a restored theater-style pipe organ; we went to the first recital after the restoration, it was a great evening. Oh, don't overlook Menlo Park, the next town north of Palo Alto; it's worth going to for lots of reasons, but there are two that would make it worthwhile if nothing else: Draeger's and Kepler's. Draeger's is a great high-end gourmet grocery store; Kepler's is an old-fashioned independent book store. (Not the best book store on the planet -- that'd be Powell's, up here in Portland. :-) I'm not sure what the rental situation in Menlo Park is like, but it's worth taking a tour through there when you're "neighborhood shopping." Still -- Mt. View is probably the best blend, for what you're looking for. There's even a local theater (I've seen the signs along Castro Street -- that's Mt. View's Castro Street, not the famous one in San Francisco), though I haven't been to it. That's become one of my must-have criteria for where I live -- first-rate theater within half an hour, and a good, sincere community theater in my home town. I'll have to give it a try if I get a free evening on my next trip -- one of the posters shows a still from "Bat Boy: The Musical," so it MUST be good! Best of luck in your move, and welcome to the Bay Area!

wine bar in palo alto/ san mateo (cali) area...?
Question:
I have heard about a wine tasting bat in the palo alto / san mateo, CA area. At this place they give you a pre-paid "wine card". The card is a credit and you can go around the bar and use this wine car as a debit to taste the wines you wish. Has anyone else heard of this place. I would love to get a group together to go... HELP!

Answer:
You might be thinking of Vino Locale. http://www.vinolocale.com/index.htm Wonderful place in downtown Palo Alto. Limited menu - but everything is terrific. Enjoy!

Compare San Francisco to Sydney, Australia, which is the bigger & better city & Why ?
Question:
I have a friend who lives in San Mateo CA, close to SFO, shes a United International flight attendant, met her in a bar in Sydney, Australia. I've been to SFO twice and loved it, but to me Sydney is still much, much better ! Better Harbour, Transport (although i liked the cable cars), both very similar cities in terms of landmarks, but its still Sydney for me, she can come here instead !

Answer:
SFO is the airport. San Francisco is only 49 square miles. Sydney is 895 square miles. San Francisco has 750,000 people. Sydney has over 3,935,000 people. I'm glad you like Sydney. I think SF is a better place to live.
