Why do so many asian teenagers in Pasadena California have luxury cars? ?
Question:
Why are there so many luxury cars there in general. Everywhere I look Mercedez, BMW? Are salaries there that high, what jobs do these people hold?

Answer:
Lots of Asians families that I know in the Pasadena / LA area work very hard and earn very well. They also tend to buy their kids nicer cars than some other parents who are just as wealthy. There are people with very high salaries in CA. A first year attorney at a large LA law firm will make $160,000 their first year, with a maybe $25,000 bonus. In their 7th or 8th year, they will make about $255,000 plus maybe a $50,000 bonus. Partners make from over $250,000 to 2 million $+. Certain types of physicians make a similar amount, with surgeons and specialists on the higher end. Lots of asian doctors in Pasadena. I went to a party at a korean friend's home, and the korean women would introduce themselves to each other and ask What kind of doctor is your husband? Not - what does your husband do?! Many of the wives were attorneys. And then there are those who make real $$$, like in entertainment, real estate developers, finance, and other types of business, etc. Although the economy is down, there are still people who are making the big bucks. The top private non-religious high schools in LA cost from $25,000 to $30,000 per year tuition, plus donations. In some areas of LA, especially near Pasadena, those schools will be close to a third Asian. One of the very top public schools in the state is San Marino High, near Pasadena, and it's 70% asian. You can't buy a home in San Marino for under a million. So I guess all that schooling and hard work pays off! Arcadia is another well off community next to Pasadena, excellent schools, the high school is 70% asian. I just hope the kids have some fun, too! Studying in high school until 2am, which I know they do, is NUTS. At my son's private school, the new asian parents always ask me if the students are ranked -- who is the #1 student, #2 student, etc. Nope, that would be too much pressure on the kids!

What is the difference between Tap and EZ pass in Long Beach/Los Angeles/Pasadena California?
Question:
I need to purchase a pass for school because I don't have a car. There is the Tap Pass and EZ Pass. What is the difference?

Answer:
The EZ pass is a pass that you buy every month. It costs you $84, but for that $84, you can ride any Metro Bus, any Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, any Culver City Bus, plus Torrance Transit, Glendale and Burbank bus lines, Long Beach, Montebello and several others. There's basically not a bus line in all of Southern California that doesn't accept the EZ PAss. You can also ride any light rail train that has a color in it's name (Blue Line, Red Line, Green Line, etc). If you ride more than 2 buses or trains per day, then the $84 pays for itself because it's $1.50 per ride on metro ... so if you take 2 buses per day, that's $90 over a 30 day period. The EZ Pass gets you on ANY bus and train as often as you like, so it really is a good deal. The TAP card doesn't give you discounts. All it does is replace cash in your pocket. It's a little card that you buy for $2.00 (one time fee of $2.00), which you can then 'load' with cash so that you don't have to carry the $$ around with you. It also enables you to get a Day Pass for transit on Metro Buses, for $6.00 per day. This Day Pass gets you on any Metro Bus, all day long, for the $6.00. The thing with the TAP card is that each bus line has their own TAP card. If you buy a Metro TAP Card, it may not be valid on a Culver City Bus, or a Santa Monica Bus. They're in the process of making it so that you can use the same TAP card for all of them, but as of now it hasn't happened yet. Of the two, the EZ pass gets you more bang for your public transportation buck. I use one to get to work and back every day, which takes 3 Metro Buses and would cost me a lot more than if I didn't have the pass. I go everywhere, and I never worry about having enough change or cash for the fares. It takes a load off of my mind and my pockets. :D Happy Busing P.S. There's a $36 monthly TAP Card, but I'm not sure if that would work for you because it's only good on Metro Buses. Here's the link to Metro's web page with the skinny on passes and stuff: http://www.metro.net/around/fares/ And here's Metro's main page if you want to poke around and see what else might suit you: http://www.metro.net/around/ :D

FOUND DOG- Pasadena, California?
Question:
Okay. So my family and I went to Big 5 in Pasadena today and we found this dog. She has no collar (and no signs that it ever did, trust me when a dog normally wears one there's big lovely marks like when you wear a ring) and she isn't micro-chipped, so no owner to be found. We went to Glendale humane society and they don't know anything about her... so anyway, she's incrediably sweet, is good in the car and walks well on leash, and knows the "sit" command. She's clean and seems healthy, her teeth and whiter than my dogs' teeth, so she's well taken care of...she's now at my house, if anyone knows about her, please let me know. Comment and tell me! http://static.flickr.com/46/133790201_1af360595b.jpg?v=0 I have posted online in numerous places, and will be posting papers up in the area soon. The dog will not go to a kill shelter, I will find someone since she is so sweet.

Answer:
I would personally say that if no one seems to claim or want the dog that to keep it. But only if you want it. I would hate to see it be booted out in the cold.

"Art Center College Of design" Pasadena ,California ?
Question:
The 16000 dollar term fee seems ridiculous. This is like buying one car every few weeks or a Ferrari in no more than 2 years. Do you really need a degree from this college to get into famous automotive design companies such as BMW,Audi,Fiat,Alfa Romeo etc? Is it smarter to get your bachelors first from a cheaper college and go for your masters in ACCOD later? 125 904 $ for a bachelors degree seems impossible to save (not counting the cost of daily life and rent). I'm beginning to think that dreams are not enough to get anyone through this college without the required cash.

Answer:
k, College is no-holds-barred EXPENSIVE. That said, you should know that a degree from the best colleges puts you in control of your career. For example, if you wanted to be an engineer, you can get that degree from many colleges, and you'll be an engineer. However, if you want to work in the best places, with the best pay, you'd better go to UCBerkeley. Also, if you get your bachelor's degree, you'll do fine, financilally. Get a master's degree and you'll have a better choice of jobs and salaries. Get your doctorate and now you choose where to work and for how much. It's up to you, it's your decision. If you think ACCOD is expensive, price out Stanford, UoPacific, Harvard, etc. $16,000 a term starts looking pretty cheap. Especially if you want to work for a specific car company. You don't have to save ahead for all of college. You can get student loans to help you out. But do save as much as you can because you don't want to have to work a lot of hours or at all during your senior year. That's so you can devote your time to doing your best during the most challenging classes. A last note: write a letter -not an email- and ask those car companies which colleges they recommend, or at least prefer their designers to have attended. That will be very helpful for you.

I Dont know what to do?Ive always been in pasadena?
Question:
my mom wants to move to pomona.and its kind of a big move because ive always lived in pasadena(california) other than the few months i was in riverside.but when we went to look at the house it was alright but i just dont like how pomona looks.its just not like pasadena.and she does everything on her own she doesnt tell anyone what shes doing she just does it and wants us to follow. and she doesnt have a car.i feel she rushing into things and its a good move but its not the best move right now

Answer:
Pomona is a bit different from Pasadena, but you'll make new friends and you will be able to keep your old friends. My 14 yr old son's best friend moved to LaVerne (next to Pomona) several years ago and they've been able to keep up the friendship. Even if your mom doesn't have a car, your friends moms likely do. And it's only 2 buses out to Pasadena from Pomona. Right on the border of Pomona, next to the Fairplex, is the Frank Bonelli Park, Raging Waters is there, too. At the park there is a huge lake and it's a cool place to hang out. http://www.lacountyparks.org/Parkinfo.asp?URL=cms1_033272 .asp&Title=Frank%20G.%20Bonelli%20Regional%20Park http://www.yel p.com/biz/frank-g-bonelli-regional-park-san-dimas Your mom probably didn't bring moving up to you because she felt you'd be unhappy about the situation and maybe there are no other options, so nothing to discuss. That's very unfortunate, but that's just the way it is sometimes. I know how you feel, we've been thinking of moving just 7 miles away to be closer to where my son is starting high school in Sept and he wants nothing to do with it, even though everything would be extremely similar to our home and neighborhood, friends closer by, and he'd be able to walk to school. Moving is tough when you like where you live. Try to make the best of the move, if it happens. You'll be OK. Good luck.

What schools and classes for transfer to Art center College of design? transportation design.?
Question:
Hello, I'd like to become a car designer and for this I'll have to take a course in transportation design at the Art center college of design in pasadena, california. Most of the students have years of experience at another colllege before studying there, because it takes time to develop a good portfolio. So I'd like to know what schools to consider and what classes i should take before applying there and taking that course?

Answer:
The best thing to do is to speak to the admissions people and ask them. They'd have the inside info. As you mention, most students transfer into Art Center, so the school must have an opinion of what works best. The phone number is on their website: http://www.artcenter.edu/accd/programs/undergraduate/tr ansportation.jsp There's a new student night on Dec 3, if you're local you should go. You were supposed to RSVP by yesterday, but give them a call. http://www.artcenter.edu/accd/events/admission.jsp
