i live in sacramento and i go with a 10W-30. When i lived in ohio i switched between 5w-30 and 10w. You can use 5w if you want, it's better for cold start ups. It still works in the warm, but for warm conditions 10W is the way to go.

I'm guessing that this question is in connection with your planned visit to a friend living at Fort Irwin. It would really help to know if you have arrange transportation to the base. It's about 110 miles out in the desert from Ontario. If you simply want to go from LAX to ONT. You would board a "Flyaway Bus" outside the baggage claim area and go to Union Station. They run every 30 minutes and the fare is $6.00. At Union Station board a Metrolink (San Bernardino County Line) train and get off at the Montclair Station. This is a commuter train that runs business hours during the week. The fare is $7.75. Then board an Omnitrans Bus # 60 to Ontario Airport. (by the way, the HUGH Ontario Mills Outlet stores are just a stones throw away if you're in to discount shopping) Option 2. Simply rent a car. Many rental agencies at LAX will rent to 23 year olds, and this may be your best option. In L.A. Enterprise and Alamo seem to give the best service and value for your dollar. LAX to Fort Irwin is about 150 miles, and about a 3 hour drive in "normal" traffic. Any mapping website could provide you with the best routing. If the car is getting low on fuel get it at Barstow. There are NO gas stations in the 22 miles between Barstow and Fort Irwin. Option 3 Take the "Flyaway Bus" to Union Station. Then take a taxi or Metro "DASH" bus to the Greyhound Bus Station. The "Dash" bus is 25 cents. and runs every 12 minutes. It's only a mile away, but DON"T try walking, the Greyhound station is in a very bad section of town. Take the Greyhound Bus to Barstow, California which is the closest town to Fort Irwin. Schedules vary from 3 to 5 hour trips. Fares are from $19.50 to $32.00. Try not to arrive in Barstow at night. The Greyhound stops at a McDonald's , and it is deserted at night. From Barstow take a taxi the 22 miles to Fort Irwin. Barstow Area Transit (the city bus lines) claims to have service to Fort Irwin however it only runs in the afternoon, but i haven't been able to confirn that. Forget about a shuttle. It would be almost be as expensive as a taxi. Good luck on your travels.
