What will happen to all of the Champcar Panoz race cars after this weekend's Long Beach GP?
Question:
Maybe I can pick one up really cheap. How cool would that be driving into work in one of those? Realistically, I doubt I could afford to buy one rim and tire right now, never mind the whole car.

Answer:
Lols yeah that would be funny..

what shipping service do you use to ship a car from Long Beach, California to Europe?
Question:
Can you please tell me company names or a good service that ships cars from long beach to Europe

Answer:
Couple things. 1. Since you are looking to go from Long Beach, CA to Europe your move will need to be divided into two main parts. The domestic transport (within the US). 2. The international transport, which will be the US port to the country in Europe. INTERNATIONAL The first thing you will need to do is find which port you are shipping from. The kind of company you are looking for is a company that goes by the name "Ro/Ro". That is a general name for a shipping/boat company that transport vehicle in a "Roll on and Roll off" manner. You will likely want to search for "freight forwarder ro ro" to find companies that will provide this service. Once you find the Ro/Ro company you are going to use they will give you the International price and specify which port to get the vehicle too.... they may also offer the domestic side. If I had to ball park the estimate for a Ro/Ro service from a port in Florida USA to a port in France or Germany you will pay every bit of $3000-$5800+ insurance. DOMESTIC When you know the port to get your vehicle to you will want to find an auto transport company that can ship your vehicle to the port from Long Beach. Popular ports are in New Jersey (NJ), Maryland (MD) and numerous ones in Florida (FL). To continue I will assume the port will be FL. The Transport Reviews.com pricing tool (http://www.transportreviews.com/directory/infobyroute.asp?OS=CA& DS=FL) shows that vehicle transports from CA to FL cost on average about $1200. They show some for as little as $800 and for as high as $1400. Since gas is expensive in CA and you will have time sensitive deadlines because of the connecting International leg, you will likely be on the high side of things. You can get custom quotes from several well rated domestic auto transporters at: http://www.autotransporter.com/ SUMMARY You will be paying $4000 to $8000 to ship your vehicle from CA to Europe. I hope this is helpful. Good luck.

where there ever street cars in the Long Beach/ Signal Hill area?
Question:
my dad told me the company was the Pacific Electric Railway and the cars were red I live in Signal Hill and my dad told me that the deserted tracks by the Pelayo's burger place was used for street cars like the ones in San Francisco. He said the streetcars operated until the 60s I want someone to confirm this for me.

Answer:
Yes, there were street cars in LBC. Redondo Blvd, 2nd St in Belmont Shore, Broadway, etc, all had PER tracks. One of my friends grandmothers lived in Long Beach and took the Red Car all the way to her job at the FBI in downtown Los Angeles back in the 50's. The Pacific Electric Greenbelt that runs from 4th Street & Park Avenue to 11th Street & Loma used to have tracks and is now a park. If you go down Electric Avenue in Seal Beach you can see one of the old PER red cars. The cars ran all up and down the coast to take people that lived in the city to the soon to be developed beach towns in Orange County. Below are some web sites related to the Red Cars in the area. The www.erha.org web site is really detailed. The PER had shut down most of its rail lines by the early 60's thanks to General Motors, Firestone Tires and Standard Oil all of whom purchased parts of the Pacific Electric Railway. Other factors also came into play too.

what kind of cars are used in the grand prix of long beach?
Question:
more specifically the champ car series. also, how does one win the race? They all start in different positions, yet the one in the back has to reach the front... i.e. more track to cover, how is this fair? And if they're timed, why is there that "closest" races where they are thousandths of a second different in crossing the finish line?

Answer:
The Long Beach race is, as of this year. part of the IRL Series and the cars used are IRL Cars. Prior to this year it was part of the Champ Car series, which covers most of it's history (though, it was originally started as a second US Grand Prix in Formula 1, and was run that was for a few years). Like pretty much all forms of wheel to wheel auto-racing, the first car to cross the line after the race distance or time is completed is the winner. Cars are gridded in their starting positions based on their performance in qualifying (the car with the fastest qualifying gets the first spot, and so forth back). Races that are timed finish at the end of the lap after the time has expired, while distance races come to an end at the end of the prescribed number of laps.

What is the driving time from Los Angeles to Long Beach on a sunday afternoon?
Question:
I'll be traveling by car to Long Beach from LA on a sunday afternoon (sometime between 12-2pm) and am wondering how much time it will take me to get there. Does anyone know also how much time will it take me to get from Long Beach to San Diego with sunday traffic? Please advise.

Answer:
It has taken me anywhere from 45 minutes to 2.5 hours to get from LB to LA with weekend traffic. I went to San Diego from Long Beach Saturday morning and it took over 2 hours because of traffic. My usual highway speed is 80-85 mph so I am not a slow driver, but if there is traffic your drive time will take awhile.

Do I need a car if i go to Long Beach State?
Question:
I might be going to Long Beach State and i would live off campus. Can I get by without a car? Do a lot of the students have no cars?

Answer:
Having no car makes things a little harder when you are in college. Long Beach State is a big school and it's in a big city. If you don't have a car it's no big but it would be easier for you to get around with one than without one. Good Luck & Congrats.
