Hi. I want to go on a trip before college and see a place in California. I want to stay near Hollywood Race track in Inglewood. Can someone tell me a nice town near there (beach side preferably). Here is the problem; don't have a car or a license, so i will need to be in walking distance or train/bus distance. If i knew what area I was staying in I can figure out the transportation issues. Hollywood Park is a cool racetrack, but the neighborhood where it's located (and the surrounding area) has really gone downhill in the last few decades. Inglewood isn't the safest place in the world. You probably wouldn't want to stay there. There are plenty of nice beach towns on the coast, such as Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach, but they are about ten miles away from Inglewood, and not within walking distance. (Of the two local tracks, Santa Anita is actually the better overall racetrack, and is in a far nicer neighborhood.) In general, you need a car in L.A. It's not a luxury, it's a necessity. L.A. was built around cars, and places are spaced so far apart there that there's no way to walk between them, and public transportation isn't really a viable alternative. If you're going to be in L.A., you basically have to own a car, rent a car, or have someone with a car to drive you around...

Not all of these are actual riots, like the Los Angeles riot (that was a REAL riot.) Some of these are mis-named either because of press hype or because of racism on the part of local officials. Most of these are blown way out of proportion by calling them a "riot". For example, I lived near Plainfield, NJ in 1968 and there was a disturbance there, but I wouldn't call it a riot. And you'll notice that there are many incidents that are not called a riot, but also involve mass mob violence in which WHITE people attacked black people. A good example is the town of Rosewood in Florida. In 1923 there was such a horrific event there that the entire black population was either murdered or forced to flee for their lives, and the town was wiped off the face of the map. There were many events like this from the end of the 19th century, right up through the civil rights era of the 1950s and even early 1960s. Why weren't they called "riots"? EDIT: I just noticed you included the Stonewall Riot. You really should look that up. It had nothing to do with race! Gay New Yorkers, tired of being beaten and abused by police, fought back in what is historically considered the beginning of the Gay rights movement. While I'm sure there were Black people there, most of the people fighting the police were White. Do you just think the word "riot" implies "Black people" is that how you accidentally included this one? That says a lot about where you're coming from.

Hello! I was wondering if anyone had information about the inglewood, CA DMV behind the wheel driving test. I am very nervous to take the test and I had two main question: 1. If anyone had tips or reasons why i would easily fail for example taking your hands off the wheel at a red light or driving under the speed limit gets points taken off, does anyone know any others? 2. Stay where you are. Even if you do finally get a GED, without a college education you will never find a job that pays enough (legally) to support yourself . L.A is having it's highest rate of unemployment in decades. Several points higher than the national average. It is extremely hard to find a job during these tough economic times.

Why are white people scared of South central Los angeles.?

i see confederate flag every where when i visit the south. i live in san francisco california and have not seen someone anyone driving around with a confederate flag on their car or hanging it on front of their house yet. most of the people who has the confederate flag in the south are white people. i want to know if those people are racist or if they just dont want to admit that they are racist but they really are. im sure most people would say its not racist to have a confederate flag or have a swastika tattoo. if its not racist to have a confederate flag or a swastika tattoo then would you go to the ghetto neighborhood in oakland, compton, richmond, long beach, inglewood, or any ghetto neighborhoods with a confederate flag or walk around without a shirt displaying your swastika tattoo and wont get shot at? btw im not white so i dont have a confederate flag, swastika tattoo, and i do not claim white power. and no im not a racist i just hate racist people

Why did I get fined? When was this a law?

When was this a f4cking Law? so I was in my 1964 cheverloet imapala convertible and then I put in this eazy e soundtrack heres a link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywmMO8iilaE so anyways I put the volume at 50 at crenshaw (los angelas california) then this white guy with his friend in their 2008 Acura tsx were blasting some linkin park song so then their song was louder than me so I Turned it up to hear it more then they turn it up so then I just put it to max 100 and they put it to max 100 then the cops pulled ME over and not the white guys (Note: the LAPD are one of the most racist scumbag cops in america) then they told me to turn down the volume and that it was offensive due to language (Crenshaw,watts,compton,inglewood,santa maria,Westside, South gate is basicaly all mexican or all black. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't give a f4ck. Anyways so i turned it down to 30 and then they fined me for not turning it down wow 30 was barley f4ckin loud. those white guys were playing at 100 max litteraly they were parked in front of some 7/11 and one of them went inside and the car was on. the cops didn't even go to them and just smiled and waved at them. got me a fine. Jeez and they wonder why so many crimes are against police in south central.

Dog Fight by Charles Bukowski he draws up against my rear bumper in the fast lane I can see his head in the rear view mirror, his eyes are blue and he sucks upon a dead cigar. I pull over. he passes, then slows. I don't like this. I pull back into the fast lane, engage myself upon his rear bumper. we are as a team passing through Compton. I turn the radio on and light a cigarette. he ups it 5 mph, I do likewise. we are as a team entering Inglewood. he pulls out the fast lane and I drive past. then I slow. when I check the rear view he is upon my bumper again. he has almost made me miss my turnoff at Century. I hit the blinker and fire across 3 lanes of traffic, just make the off ramp... blazing past the front of an inflammable tanker. blue eyes comes down from behind the tanker and we veer down the ramp in separate lanes to the signal and we sit there side by side, not looking at each other. I am caught behind an empty school bus as he idles behind a Mercedes. the signal switches and he is gone. The diction of these words almost slows the pace of the poem, and they seem somewhat out of place. The racing language gets our hearts racing and then we slow with the brainy words. So, this creates both a physical reaction and an intellectual one. These words, also, suggest that the speaker is elegant and dignified as they are not the stereotypical words of just an average Joe racing down a city street. The speaker switches from words like "cop" (everyday language) to "nonchalance" (something more elegant). Finally, perfect anger is paradoxical in that it makes sense but seems contradictory. All of this diction makes the speaker seem complex or contradictory or like a rich, well-educated young man having a little common, everyday, street fun.
