Buying a used car with expired registration.?
Question:
I am looking into buying a used car on craigslist in Fontana California. The vehicles registration expired in July 2010. Will there be a high fee for me to get the car registered again? Also since it was registered before july 2010 does that means it passed the smogged prior to that? Last but not least how do I get the title of the car in my name? I'm confused with the car buying process, help please!

Answer:
In CA, the seller should be responsible for getting the smog check done. See the DMV.ORG site. Have the seller get it somgged before you buy. The tags go from July to July and in this case you will buy the tags that will take you to July 2011 plus the penalty for late payment. If it is a newer vehicle, this could run you a chunk of change. My fear would be that the seller did not register the vehicle because it didn't pass smog. Don't buy a vehicle that you don't know if it will pass. Look at the registration card and it will tell you what the fees were the last time it was paid. Add 25% to that and that will be your guesstimate that will be due plus the sales tax on the price you are paying. Now, take the title and your bill of sale to DMV and a new title will be issued in your name. Email me if you have more questions.

Refining my question: Would it be a good idea to move to California in June?
Question:
My mother wants to move to California this June for personal reasons and obviously my brother and I would go with her. I would like to know if it'd be a good idea considering the economy and if you could give us tips on how to move and "survive" out there. She "lost" her job at the hospital and now works at McDonald's and we have Section 8. (a program that helps pay rent) She set some of her income tax money to the side for the move. So basically I was wondering would it be a good idea considering our situation? We have a car so going there is not a problem. and we don't care if we live inland as long as its near Oceanside and San Diego like near that area. so basically nothing north of LA. Although we wouldnt mind living in places like Fontana etc. My mom has experience with working at hospitals, would this help?

Answer:
There are NO jobs in California. Coming here is only going to make your situation worse.

Answer:
Not all of these are actual riots, like the Los Angeles riot (that was a REAL riot.) Some of these are mis-named either because of press hype or because of racism on the part of local officials. Most of these are blown way out of proportion by calling them a "riot". For example, I lived near Plainfield, NJ in 1968 and there was a disturbance there, but I wouldn't call it a riot. And you'll notice that there are many incidents that are not called a riot, but also involve mass mob violence in which WHITE people attacked black people. A good example is the town of Rosewood in Florida. In 1923 there was such a horrific event there that the entire black population was either murdered or forced to flee for their lives, and the town was wiped off the face of the map. There were many events like this from the end of the 19th century, right up through the civil rights era of the 1950s and even early 1960s. Why weren't they called "riots"? EDIT: I just noticed you included the Stonewall Riot. You really should look that up. It had nothing to do with race! Gay New Yorkers, tired of being beaten and abused by police, fought back in what is historically considered the beginning of the Gay rights movement. While I'm sure there were Black people there, most of the people fighting the police were White. Do you just think the word "riot" implies "Black people" is that how you accidentally included this one? That says a lot about where you're coming from.

Driver's License and Motorcycle license?
Question:
So yea, I'm 18. I had never passed the drivers test. I failed once when I was 16 and the two times I scheduled after that I had forgotten or ditched. Eventually, my chance to pass the test passed (I failed to pass within the 6 month time period) 2 years now xD Almost 3 years since then. Besides having to read the updated driver's manual, what do I need to take my drivers test now that I am 18 and not 15 1/2 - 16? also, I passed the written part before, but I have to take it again, don't I? And truthfully, I haven't driven a car in a long time. I live in Southern California (Fontana) so if anyone knows of really cheap private instructors, please tell me =].And do I need a learner's permit to actually learn? Lol, I know it's an odd question which answered itself, but I am not quite sure since I am not a minor anymore? One more thing, I do not plan to buy a car afterwards to get around, I'm going to get a motorcycle and I heard you need a driver's license in order to even learn how to drive a motorcycle and get a motorcycle license. So is it true? Do I need a drivers license? Thank you!

Answer:
thats what you need/a moltorcycle/ in your advanced stage of neglect to do it right the last thing you need is to be on a bike in traffic//you need to get your car license and then drive for a while to get used to traffic/then enter the motorcycle driving school/all of this will help to protect you from death/when you are on a bike at road speed just touching something can get you seriously injured or killed/try ama online for help with locating a school

Answer:
Maybe you should start using your head instead of just your hands. Go to school part time and get a job nearby. You can probably get a grant or a loan to go to school. When you get out and are earning $50 an hour you can pay off the loan. But you must be motivated and study an area that has jobs. You don't want to finish school and end up driving a cab. Be creative and think long term, you've been thinking one day at a time for too long!
