Going to University of Arizona, Tucson without a car-- possible?
Question:
I am 21 years old and am transferring to University of Arizona from the state of Virginia. I have no family in Arizona, and the car I have right now cost $400 (including insurance) a month. I can't afford to have a car, and am wondering if I can make due without in Tucson? I thought about going to University of San Francisco, hut heard that is a very terrible place to go if you are a single female.

Answer:
Yeah, you will be fine. I have lived in Tucson all my life, and I have a couple friends that go to U of A and don't have a car. You just have to make sure you live close enough to school you can walk, or ride bike OR live in the student housing that has free shuttles to school (like the Seasons, Northpoint, Star Pass..). You can always ride the city bus too. The campus isn't that spread out. Many people do it! Good luck and enjoy Tucson - It's 108 degrees today ugh!!

Where is there a stay-in-your-car car wash in Tucson, Arizona?
Question:
I like getting an exterior wash once a week, so I'm curious if there is a car wash in Tucson in which I don't have to get out of my car for? More specifically, Oro Valley? And, if so, is there a membership there of any sort?

Answer:

Got parking ticket in Tucson arizona with only vin number?
Question:
I have a parking ticket in Tucson AZ but my car only has dealer plates on it. on my ticket they still put in a number in the licence plate section? and they put down the vin. if they only have the vin number could i still get charged fyi. the car is from a wholesale auction and is on its 3rd owner and origionated in Jersey so it has a mixed record thanks.

Answer:
The dealer plate can not be traced back to a specific person. The VIN can, which is why they used it instead. The VIN can easily be traced back to the dealer. When the dealer sees the time, date, and vehicle information, he can identify you as the driver. By that time, the cost of the ticket will be at least double.

How are living conditions in Arizona Flagstaff/Tucson/Phonenix?
Question:
Whats the weather like, the jobs. How expensive is it to live out there. What type of work is Arizona know for (ex. Michigan known for makin cars) What are the wages like? I am thinking about moving to the west coast from the midwest. Arizona seems close to all the good states. Also how expensive is college out there for out of state students. I want to use my GI BILL.

Answer:
Flagstaff is a small college city w/too many people, cool w/pine trees. It doesn't snow like it used to. Living conditions are great if you have the money. Very expensive tourist town. Lots of gas stations and motels. Phoenix is hot desert, can be affordable. AZ has mining, electronics, military. Wages are bad in Flagstaff, better in Phoenix. Most don't want to live in Phoenix, rather in Tempe, Mesa, surrounding areas. Lots of people moving to Tucson, smaller than Phoenix. College is expensive, I know of more people dropping out, transferring to schools like University of Phx. Link below has lots of data. Good luck..

Can anyone recommend a good hike around Tucson, Arizona?
Question:
I'm headed to Tucson for a wedding this coming weekend, and would like to use some of my spare time to see the country near there. I'm staying on the north side near the Catalina mountains. Can anyone recommend a good day hike around that area? I'll have a rental car, and don't mind driving a little ways if its worth it. Thanks!

Answer:
Esperero Trail to Bridal Veil Falls, Santa Catalina Mountains. This hike is very scenic, and not that heavily traveled. If you don't feel like doing the whole 12 miles, at least go up to Geronimo Meadows, which is only about an hour in. Check out the included link for more info on this hike.

Activities in Tucson, Arizona in March 2009?
Question:
My boyfriend (21) and I (19) will be going out to Arizona for Spring Training. We are coming in at the Phoenix airport, but staying with my sister and brother-in-law near Tucson to save money on hotels (and I the TUS airport costs a LOT more). We will be renting a car, so anything around Tucson or Phoenix would be great. We are looking for things that us youngings can do. I hear I'm not old enough for casinos in AZ, so that is a no. And I am not old enough to drink. So please make your suggestions around those facts. And we will be coming from the snowy Northern Ohio, so something outside in the night weather might be nice. Also, we don't have much money. This trip is obviously costing us a lot, even though we did find REALLY good deals on airfare, but we would prefer to do something that wont cost us a lot. Yes, I will check online sites and stuff, but I would like to know from first-hand experiences what is good out there. We will have about 2 or 3 free days. Thanks. **something outside in the NICE (not night) weather would be nice

Answer:
Definitely visit the Desert Museum. You may say "we don't like museums," but it doesn't matter because it's still awesome. It's really more like a zoo than anything. If you like hiking, March is still a pretty good time to do it. If you have some experience, check out Pima Canyon or Ventana Canyon up north, or Douglas Spring out east. Otherwise, stick to the paved and popular Sabino Canyon. Do some shopping on Fourth Avenue and, to a lesser extent, the Lost Barrio. There may be the Fourth Avenue Street Fair going on at that time. I think the Center for Creative Photography on the UA campus is great, and it's totally free. You could head up to Mount Lemmon. It's like being in Colorado but only about 30 miles outside of the city. Beautiful drive too. And, if you're up for the drive, you could head out to Tombstone, Bisbee or even Kartchner Caverns. You can do all of them in a really long day trip, but you'll need to reserve a Kartchner Caverns tour beforehand. And, of course, get some Sonoran food. Head south of 22nd to the area around Sixth/Fourth Avenues near 36th Street, or 12th Avenue near Irvington. Crossroads and Mi Nidito are both great, but Crossroads is much less well-known. If you're too scared for the south side (Tucsonans seem to think that you'll be shot on arrival), then there's the less scary El Charro, near Downtown. It's a cool building but I don't like the food and I'd swear that the waitstaff is perpetually stoned. Cafe Poca Cosa always gets nods, but I think it's overpriced and all atmosphere without the food quality to back it up. Also, on the food vein, get a Sonoran hot dog. These are a local specialty. They're available at little carts on the road sides at night, but you can also visit the most famous places: El Guero Canelo and BK's, which are both on 12th Avenue, but also have locations north of town on Oracle at Grant and First at Glenn respectively. Lots of other fantastic restaurants here. It just depends on your preferences, but that'll get you started.

places to visit in or around Tucson Arizona? thank you!?
Question:
hi fellow answerer's, i'll be visiting tucson arizona for a weekend in early november and was hoping to get some good suggestions from folks on where to go, what to see, where to eat, things to do? i'll be at U of A and have a car to travel anywhere, although my hotel is in tucson. are there good websites for me to check outside of the usual? i'm adventurous so ok w/ outdoors stuff but also enjoy a great meal and non sporty activities too. thank you! fantastic answers everyone. please keep them coming! you people are great!

Answer:
If you like the outdoors, drive down to the Kavartcher Caverns. Tombstone is good for a laugh too (definitely cheesy & touristy though so be prepared). If you are driving down from Phoenix, gotta stop and see 'The Thing'...again good for giggles. I don't know much in the town itself though they do have a Observatory somewhere near there (maybe at UofA) that is well renowned, Kitt Peak I think. I believe Biosphere is out that way too if you are into that sort of thing. Check 'about.com', search for Tucson then link to Places to See/Things to Do. They always have good info.
