How are living conditions in Arizona Flagstaff/Tucson/Phonenix?
Question:
Whats the weather like, the jobs. How expensive is it to live out there. What type of work is Arizona know for (ex. Michigan known for makin cars) What are the wages like? I am thinking about moving to the west coast from the midwest. Arizona seems close to all the good states. Also how expensive is college out there for out of state students. I want to use my GI BILL.

Answer:
Flagstaff is a small college city w/too many people, cool w/pine trees. It doesn't snow like it used to. Living conditions are great if you have the money. Very expensive tourist town. Lots of gas stations and motels. Phoenix is hot desert, can be affordable. AZ has mining, electronics, military. Wages are bad in Flagstaff, better in Phoenix. Most don't want to live in Phoenix, rather in Tempe, Mesa, surrounding areas. Lots of people moving to Tucson, smaller than Phoenix. College is expensive, I know of more people dropping out, transferring to schools like University of Phx. Link below has lots of data. Good luck..

Can I leave my 2 dogs in the car overnight in Flagstaff, Arizona?
Question:
My family and I are moving from Texas to California. We plan to travel by car and stop about halfway in Flagstaff, Arizona. I was wondering if we left a golden retriever and a german shepard alone in a vehicle with some fresh water, if they would be okay. The temperature outside I know will be cool: somewhere around 40+degrees and day temps are in the 70's. So I know it won't get too warm inside the car. They have each other to keep warm if it gets too cold. We will only be staying at night and plan to leave very early in the morning.

Answer:
there are lots of hotels that are dog friendly so why would they have to stay in the car? I know that motel 6, Le Quinta, Sleep Inns, Red Roofs and other chains accept dogs. With that being said, leaving them in the car overnight to sleep should be ok, but I wouldn't leave them in there longer then 6 hours. Park in the shade, leave the windows open and be sure they have enough room to lay down and sleep comfortably. Only put them in the car when you are going to be going to bed and be sure to walk them first. One night should be ok, but don't make a habit of it. I'd try and find a hotel where they could be taken inside because there are people out there that steal dogs.

Question:
im planning a trip over spring break to flagstaff, with me, my sister and dad, and was wondering since i love the railroad what is there to do for me, my dad loves cars, any advice for what to do for him, and my sister loves shopping, any advice, and also i have heard that a train goes through downtown flagstaff, az every 10 minutes is this true, thank you.

Answer:
The train depot in Flagstaff actually is in a train depot - There are lots of trains in Flagstaff! Flagstaff's main tourist information office is the Flagstaff Visitor Center on Santa Fe Avenue, located in the historical Amtrak train depot building. Open daily and offering a range of indepth tourism information, including leaflets about prominent tourist attractions, where to stay and eat, popular hiking trails and current events information, look out for the weekly 'Flagstaff Live' magazine, a free local publication with useful entertainment information. Highlights in Flagstaff include a range of popular restaurants throughout the town, three notable national monuments, a renowned museum and the Northern Arizona University (NAU), which supports a lively and colorful community. Flagstaff is not a mecca for shopping but there are some stores there. http://www.flagstaffmall.com/ The Grand Canyon is less than two hours from Flagstaff and a must see if you haven't seen it. Lowell Observatory is there if that interests you. http://www.lowell.edu/ Museum of Northern Arizona http://www.musnaz.org/ That'll get you started - visit the train depot and they'll enlighten you as to tours and other things to do.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Flagstaff Local (Arizona)?
Question:
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Operates A Small Local Comprised Of About Seventy Five Miles Of Trackage (Large) With An Annual Carload Rate Of Less Than Five Thousand (Small) Which I Was Wondering If You Would Think That Not The Entire Operation But A Small Flagstaff Branch Line Which Is Less Than A Mile Long Serviced By The Flagstaff Local Adjacent To The Southern Transcon Of The BNSF. The Branch Line Is Comprised Of Five Customers Which Two Are Only The Big Ones Which Two Are Provided Five Cars Daily And Three Are All Provided Two To Three Daily Which There Is A Siding Along The Branch Line That The Flagstaff Local Would Be Able To Pick Up And Drop Off A Train For My Proposed Northern Arizona Railroad. The Flagstaff Local Would Have The Same Carload Amount From The Branch Line For The Customer They Would Have Left If I Had Done This Which Would Be The East Flagstaff Yard And The Purina Petcare Corporation. I Was Wondering If This Is Possible To Purchase? FAQ's About The Branch Line: Currently Served By BNSF Flagstaff Local Comprised Of Five Customers (One Served Occasionally) Comprised Of Less Than A Mile Of Trackage What The BNSF Will Have Left: Seventy Five Miles Of Trackage. East Flagstaff Yard To Winslow Yard And The Service To The Largest Flagstaff Rail Served Business (Purina Petcare)

Answer:
Before you go start your great American railroad empire you really should take writing and comprehension classes. The grade is very heavy in Flagstaff and the current political climate would be very prohibitive to building a line to connect the Industries you are talking about. Purina is the only customer serviced out of the E. Flag yard. The rest require access to the BNSF main line(s) to access, including a large customer further east in Darling, Az. If you think they would sell you that yard just to service Purina, still have to keep their local manned because of other industries in/around Flag and service Seligman you are crazy. Anything is possible I suppose but given how important the flow of transcon traffic is in that area, it is highly, highly unlikely.

Anyone from or live in Flagstaff, Arizona?
Question:
Is it possible to get around without a car? I am thinking of moving there for grad school, but I won't have a car and I am wondering if I get an off-campus apartment, how would I get around (especially to grocery shop or buy clothes) without one? The bus line they have seems like it comes very infrequently.

Answer:
I do not live there. I have been there quite a few times though. Are you sure you want to go there? It's really snowy all winter and Flagstaff in general is isolated from anywhere else.

How is Flagstaff or Prescott Arizona like?
Question:
Hi I am actually from Brooklyn New York and currently I live in North Phoenix. I missed the great food in New York and the excellent transportation system there and the fact that you can walk to anywhere without a car. I have now been in Arizona for 3 years now. I hate the very very hot summers here. I wanted to know how is it in Flagstaff and Prescott as compared to Phoenix. Is any of them similar to Brooklyn New York. How is the weather in Flagstaff and Prescott. I hate the cold weather as well including shoveling snow. I love cities where there is a lot of shopping and great food and everything is within walking distance. Please give me all the details. Thanks. My email is romeo605phx@yahoo.com

Answer:
I grew up in the Phoenix area and then moved to Flagstaff, I've lived up here for 8 years now. Flagstaff gets a decent (nothing like New York) amount of snow and cold. Prescott is a happy medium as far as climates and weather go. There's not tons of shopping up here in Flagstaff, the population not including the NAU students is about 35000. It's not a big city by any means. There's also more shopping down in Prescott for chain stores. Flagstaff has a neat historic downtown area that is packed with little shops and diners. I'd say Prescott would be a better option for you. Might be too cold and too much snow with not too much shopping. There are tons of little restaurants up here but it's fairly small. Good luck with your move.
