NICE Apartments for rent in Homewood/South Birmingham Alabama?
Question:
My husband might be needing to relocate to Birmingham for work. Unfortunately we are limited as to where we can rent a place because of A.) a tight budget and B.) one vehicle between the two of us, wherever we live will have to be close to his job, which is on the South side of town. I am getting sooo frustrated looking for DECENT, AFFORDABLE apartments in Homewood/South B'ham though as it seems that 90% of them receive negative reviews that run the gamut on everything from being roach-infested (which is a definite NO), to people's cars being broken into in the parking lot. Funny because my husband says this is the "nice" part of town to live in. Please tell me that there is some truth to this. Are there ANY nice, clean, safe, corporate apartments in Birmingham on that side of town? If so can I get some suggestions? We also have a little one on the way in a few weeks and that makes safety even that much more important to me in finding a place to live. Thanks for reading my rant.

Answer:
try craigslist.com and click on your area. There will be tons of available places and it's a matter of doing your homework, so to speak. You might think about moving into a temporary place, and spending a month or two driving around the area so as to get a "feel" for various locations to live. As for security, no matter where you live, it could be a problem. Think about getting a dog, that's what i did, getting a german shepard. He was smart, gentle, obedient and very dedicated--not the snarling type one thinks of when thinking of police-trained german shepards. Anyway, the dog will protect you and the baby--and dad, too, much better security than a gun. Good luck, hope the baby is healthy.
